Chapitre 52: 52. New home

Her face looked troubled. ''City Lord, I am sorry. But could you tell me is there a possibility to buy a house in the city? Actually I planned to live calmly outside the town. But now I have gifted this farm away. I need another place to stay. Can you tell me are here maybe any way to buy another farm... or maybe a house nearby?'' Then she hit her head and bowed towards him. ''Sorry. I am rude. I will go and look for someone who can tell me if such a thing is possible?''

He blinked at her and saw her biting her lips in worry. 'Is that your only problem?''

She gave him a long look and nodded. ''Well, I can't live without a roof over my head. And I heard that winters here are quite cold and long, so I need to find a house as soon as possible.''

He waved his hand and a middle-aged man in scholar robe came closer with a calm expression. ''Mao La, tell me, is there anything free inside the city or nearby in the village?''

Mao La sighed. ''Sorry, young miss. The city is literally overfilled. But I know that the nearby village has few houses empty. Do you want to buy land as well?''

Shu Ya blinked with her large eyes and nodded. ''Uncle Mao La, could you show me the houses. If they are not livable, how can I survive winter?''

He had already granddaughters so he found Shu Ya quite adorable. ''Uncle will find your good house. Come. Is that your carriage?'' He pointed at the wildly parked carriage in the middle of the street.

Her face became red and she shyly nodded. ''Yes.'' Then she started bowing to all sides. ''Please all of you forgive me. But this was of national importance. I couldn't keep it even second for me. Please sorry for bothering you all.''

The scholars saw a small girl that had elegant bearing even while bowing and remembered the story about the Bai family granddaughter that was kicked from both sides of the family. One part looked at her down but didn't argue with her. The other side smiled at her as she didn't lose composure in any of her life situations and remembered how to be moderate.

She bowed a few more times and with Bolin's help went to sit on the carriage. Even her sitting with a straight back and light smile showed the elegance of noble daughter. One young man sighed. ''If she was couple years older I might have taken her as my wife, no matter with or without family. Less troublesome without. Right, Lou Mu?''

Lou Mu snorted. ''thinking about marrying at all? You don't even own your own piece of land. If the country didn't provide scholars food, you would have died of hunger. Talk about marriage when you have some money.''

The young scholar nodded. ''You are completely right. I can't get married to a poor woman. I will need to learn harder to get a rich woman that can bring some money into the house.'' Then he sighed and with quick steps went back into academy while other scholars shook their heads. ''No moral at all.''

Shu Ya at the same time actually was on her ay out the city. Now that she got rid of the only thing that could cause her trouble, she could relax again.

Mao La could literally feel her getting relaxed as she left the city without any trouble. ''What actually happened that you wanted to get rid of it so fast?''

Shu Ya chuckled sarcastically. ''My life is a mess and my farm even bigger mess. They killed the old owner of the farm and were almost successful in killing me. If I didn't gift that place officially, my body would be found dead in spring. That hot chestnut should handle the country. Me, no thank you.''

He chuckled and then sighed. ''Well, now you lost a bunch of money with that. What is your next plan?''

Shu Ya pointed at the village they were getting closer. ''Live. Comfortably if possible.''

Mao La nodded. ''Let's talk then. I know there are six houses. How big do you want it?''

''What about you show me all six and then I will tell you. By the way, how much lang can I buy? In spring I plan to plant vegetables for next year. And yes, ever heard about the golden seed?'' She blinked at him.

He nodded. ''Yes. Emperor sent those seeds to all parts of the country to see where is it possible to use it. You want some?''

''Are they expensive. I mean they call it golden. I don't have that much money.'' She carefully explained.

He shook his head. ''Indeed it's expensive. But I will ask City Lord to gift you a couple of bags. People here don't know it so they don't even try. It will get wasted anyway if it's not used.''

Shu Ya happily clapped her hands. ''Thank you. I will accept your offer gladly. Do you have more things that could be planted?'' But he shook his head. ''never mind then. I will happily accept your offer.''

He pointed at the nearest house and explained it. ''This house has a small garden and is perfect for a couple of people.''

The house was so tiny so his words were exaggerated. Shu Ya rose her eyebrows. ''Couple? Even a child like me would start to feel stiffened in that tiny space. Next, please.''

Now he knew that she didn't want a small house so he pointed down the street. When they came with carriage he pointed at the two-room house with a big garden and one small house at the side but Shu Ya just shook her head. ''Still too small. Is this the biggest in the village?''

He shook his head. ''The biggest house is a huge villa. Do you want it?''

Shu Ya sighed. ''How much is it?''

He chuckled as he saw her pressed lips. ''Two thousand gold coins.''

''W...what?'' Shu Ya started coughing when she heard the price. ''What is it made off? Jade?''

He became serious. ''It is indeed made of precious wood and rare stones. I guess, that kind of price is a bit too much.''

''Most definitely impossible.'' Shu Ya shook her head.

''Then let me show you two more houses.'' He pointed at the direction of the nearest house and explained it. ''This was the house of a nobleman family but they chose to sell it and go to live in the capital. They left three weeks ago so it should be still good enough to live inside. The price is five hundred silver.''

He saw her calm so he pointed at another direction and after while they ended up almost at the end of the village. He pointed at the big wall. ''This house belonged to one of the trading families. But their main haor became addicted to gambling and lost all the property. So now no one lives here. they were evicted ten days ago so this should be livable as well. Price is only two hundred silver.''

Shu Ya blinked and thought about it then pointed at the house. ''I like the way it is far away from other people. But I still need to check how it looks inside. Would you mind opening it?''

Mao La waved his hand and suddenly few soldiers rushed to open the door. Just then she realized they followed them all the way here from the city.
