“Okay guys, I don’t have all night, what are you ordering?” There was the Marianne they knew and loved.
“Today’s special…” Bobby told her.
“What’s that?” Zach asked.
Bobby and Jason recited from memory, “Meatloaf, mashed potatoes with brown gravy, and peas and carrots, coffee, tea or iced tea and rice pudding.”
Zach and Keith’s eyes went down to read the menu, then back up. Keith said what Zach was thinking, “Make that four.”
“How did you do that?”
“What?” Bobby smirked.
“You didn’t have time to read the menu.” Keith stared at Bobby and Jason. Bobby poked Keith.
“We’ve been coming here for years, old man. We know the menu better than the servers do.”
Zach’s eyes found Jason’s. Whatever the cause, Bobby was back.
“So,” asked Zach casually, “did I hear someone say fiancé?”
“Yep…me.”
“Bobby Michaels, you stop saying yep right now. I’m still correcting Kitty.”
