Chapitre 52: Oh No, Oh No, Oh No

The empty gaps of the conversation were filled with silence once again. However, the quietness was soon broken off.

Lin Changying asked, with her back still facing Yu Xuelan, "Why are you so nice to me?"

Yu Xuelan raised her brows at the sudden question but replied, "What do you mean?"

"I really am such a horrible person," Lin Changying said as her voice grew quieter. "To be honest, I almost got jealous of how you turned out. I truly wished that you ended up being a wreck like how any slave was."

Yu Xuelan, "....."

"I apologise on behalf of all slaves," she cried in thought.

Yu Xuelan listened attentively as the girl continued, "I don't know why, but I tried to find every reason to not like you. So then I would have a reason to get rid of you again. But as time passed, I realized I was still clinging to the past."

"The moment I saw you, I was so angry at how you had already moved on with a different life, a life that was much more lustrous than before, yet I remained the same. I thought life was just unfair. Sometimes, I wished I was truly you, but gradually, I hated myself so much for wanting to get rid of my own sister. Because you forgave me so easily even after hearing everything I had done to you."

Lin Changying scoffed, "How petty could I get?"

Yu Xuelan stared at the girl in awe as she was finally revealing her true feelings.

"I finally realized how disgusting I was after I heard how you and Sect Master Wu came all the way to the Demon God's lair just to save someone like me."

Yu Xuelan glanced left and right in guilt since the main reason she wanted to find Lin Changying was for her commandment note, but slowly she worried more about Lin Changying's safety.

"As long as you sincerely recognize your past mistakes, only then can you move on," Yu Xuelan chuckled.

Lin Changying laughed solemnly. "My apology last time at Ming'An village was extremely insincere. I just wanted to take advantage of your naivety, but I soon noticed how horrible that was. I don't know why but, I feel as if my sins will be lifted if I get punished. That's why I wanted to apologize once again. I am sorry."

"Alright, I accept your apology," Yu Xuelan smiled.

"There you go again, forgiving people so easily. Can't you hate me just for a few moments?" Changying sighed.

"It would be quite tough. I'm not very good at harbouring hatred towards others."

After all, she was tired of it. Hating people.

A thought popped up in Yu Xuelan's head. There was one area that Lin Changying was extremely good at. And that was being up to date with every gossip about the cultivation world.

"Lin Changying, can I ask you something?"

"Of course, but I'm still going to face the wall."

"Alright. What do you know about the Four Autumn Alliance?"

Although Lin Changying's back was faced towards Yu Xuelan, she knew the girl was feeling slightly shocked by the question.

She answered, "Well, I know they broke off the alliance a few years after Yu Xuelan's death. I heard it was because the Sect Master of HaiShen Yu, Yu Yang, proposed an extremely absurd idea which caused a lot of conflict between the other sects.

"Though the Four Autumn Alliance was already breaking apart after the incident at the Jade Conference when Yu Xuelan committed mass murder," she informed.

The moment Lin Changying mentioned mass murder, Yu Xuelan's heart tightened.

Yu Xuelan listened to her carefully. After ignoring the topics of Yu Yang for so long, her interest in him was slightly piqued after hearing what Bo Fan said about the agreement and him merging his core with someone else's. She already knew that "someone else's" was her own core from her original body.

There were a total of nine cultivation ranks, with nine being the peak and one being the initial step. Most people would hit a bottleneck after reaching six, finding it extremely difficult to rank higher.

Yu Xuelan only knew of two cultivators throughout history that had reached rank nine. Although they both had passed away before being able to achieve full immortal ascension.

The first one to achieve this was the first grandmaster of the cultivation world and the other rank nine was Yu Xuelan herself.

However, after the grandmaster died, the sects decided they wanted to live equally without a patriarchal ruler, resulting in the Four Autumn Alliance forming.

When one reaches rank nine, they would see them as the Grandmaster of the Cultivation World. Someone to be feared while also looked up to, as though they were a divine being worthy of being worshipped.

Yet, no one wanted to recognize the fact that Yu Xuelan reached rank nine in cultivation practice. Who would want to worship a person who had gone crazy after coming back from the demonic realm?

Even if she wasn't seen as crazy, Yu Xuelan hated the idea of being worshipped by others. It sickened her.

Sadly, after her reincarnation into Lin Yuhe's body, her level was now around four or five. Maybe higher or lower, but it was around there.

"But something that still confuses me is Yu Xuelan's uncle, Yu Yang, who is also the master of HaiShen Yu," Lin Changying pondered. "Majority of the cultivation world thinks Yu Yang is guiding the world in a better direction while the small portion probably disagrees with his idea but never have the guts to actually say it."

"What is his plan?" Xuelan asked hesitantly.

"Ah, he..."

"He wants to exterminate the entire demonic realm."

Yu Xuelan widened her eyes and felt her stomach twist into knots.

"I would say his plan is quite stupid. But it would be quite nice if no demons existed. Then the world would have been a better place to live."

Yu Xuelan furrowed her brows and put her hand on her chin while her mind slowly clouded up in a block of thoughts.

Yu Yang's actions are quite hypocritical. He desired the extermination of all demons, yet he made a contract with one of the Three Demon Gods.

"Ah right, this is off topic and I know it might seem strange to say this, but you should watch out for those from HaiShen Yu. Especially since the Annual Demon Hunting Competition is coming around soon but I heard their disciples have grown really strong and ruthless."

Strong and ruthless? HaiShen Yu? That was something new.

Yu Xuelan nodded, "Thank you."

She didn't know it was already that time of the year. Maybe the time where she crossed paths with Yu Yang would be earlier than she thought it would be.

"Oh right, did you take something from my robe back when we were at the teahouse?"

Lin Changying pondered for a bit before rummaging through her sleeves.

"You mean this?" She said and reached her arms out, waving around a small piece of paper.

"Yes, can I have it back?"

"Why are you asking me? Of course, you can. I thought it was just your rubbish, and I was planning to throw it away."

Yu Xuelan retrieved the burnt note and slipped it away safely, hoping she wouldn't lose it for the third time. If she did, then she would just give up on searching for it and accept her fate.

After chattering for a while, Yu Xuelan prepared to leave before Changying spoke up, "Ah I just remembered."

"What is it?"

"I don't know if this is true, but apparently the late Sect Master of ShenMing Wu killed himself because of Yu Yang, but I don't know why."

Yu Xuelan's heart stopped. Her hands grew slightly cold, although it might've been from the chilled breeze that travelled through the window.

Wu Zhitian's father killed himself because of Yu Yang.

...

The moon loomed large, surrounding itself with an ethereal glow as the girl exited the residence, staring up at the lonely sky. Millions of stars sprinkled themselves around the dark night, yet it still looked somewhat dull in Yu Xuelan's dim eyes.

She allowed her feet to guide her wherever, while her mind wandered off to the discussion she had with Lin Changying.

She didn't understand why she felt anxious about the thought of meeting Yu Yang. It brought her shame to see how big she talked before my death, and she still found it absurd that he was trying to exterminate the entire demonic realm after working with a Demon God himself.

Also, that he merged his core with her own produced a sort of uncanny feeling within her. He should have noticed inconsistencies in his internal energy by now, since she was gradually regaining her original core.

...

Without realizing it, she'd wandered off further away from the party and saw Long Wen exiting a manor.

Long Wen descended the stairs and noticed the girl standing in front. Seeing that Yu Xuelan was there, the woman responded with an inscrutable stare, as if attempting to decipher the girl that stood in front of her.

"What are you doing here?" Long Wen asked.
