Chapitre 15: Renovation

The banging on the wall woke Iris and when she opened her eyes, she screamed like a banshee. A man, wearing blue overalls, was breaking the length of the wall in the basement at six in the morning.

She screamed and scrambled to get out of the bed, pressing herself on the wall next to her bed, which she seemed to be doing a lot these days because of the crazy old vampire that she lived with.

"Good morning," the man in blue overalls, grumpily greeted her.

"Who are you and what are you doing here?"

"My name is Elmer. I am told to break this wall," he said in a monotone as though he didn't find anything strange with the idea of going to someone's basement and breaking their wall.

Iris pushed herself away from the wall and opened all the lights in the basement. The lights flood the dark room. She could confirm her hunch. Elmer or whatever this man's name was, has glassy eyes, moving like a programmed robot.

"You were told to break the wall?" She carefully asked, walking near the man to fully observe his eyes and blank facial expression.

"Yes," he said, swinging the hammer in his hands, breaking a good portion of the yellowish cement wall.

Iris jumped back from the loud sound and to stay away from the debris that scattered all over the place. She had to cover her mouth and nose when dust floated in the air like a cloud.

"Shit, shit," she pivoted and ran to her computer. She hurriedly unplugged her computer and bent down, pulling the old computer box that she had shoved under her bed. She was still having a hard time, reaching the dusty box when she heard the voice of the man that she was cursing in her head.

"What are you doing down there?"

He came out when he heard Iris screaming but he didn't expect her to be bending on her knees, head under her bed. Her small behind was up in the air and he had to check on the guy that he found to renovate the basement if he was looking at Iris. Because if he did, he had to die.

Iris for the second time that morning screamed at the top of her lungs, grabbed the box, and hit her head. She was rubbing her hand on her head when she realized the bed frame was up in the air.

"W-what?"

"What are you doing down there?" He asked with furrowed brows. Surveying the under of her bed, seeing what seemed to be tons of random things, gathering dust, and not seeing the light of the day.

"I need to pack my computer!" She forgot the pain in her head that had already swelled up and quickly stood up, shaking her old computer box, and removing its dust.

She untangled the wires of her computer and in a precise manner put the computer in its designated boxes—the computer screen, keyboard, CPU, and the other random things were thrown in another box together with all the shits that were sitting on her computer table.

"Why didn't you give me time to clean my stuff before he started breaking down the place?" She glared at Calixto who was staring at him with a blank expression on his green eyes. She hates him when he's acting like how he's doing right now.

"I did tell you that you have to clean your mess."

Iris faced Calixto who sat down on her armchair, he didn't appear to be bothered by the dust and the loud noise echoing in the enclosed space of the basement. He looked at her as if she was the stupidest person he had ever known.

"You did! But you forgot to tell me that it's going to be now!" She shrieked in panic when Elmer aimed his hammer at her poster wall.

"No! Stop!" She screamed, dropping the Snoopy tissue box that she was holding, and ran to Elmer who seemed to be as confused as she was.

"What? Where am I?"

He looked at Iris who had her arms opened, back plastered on the wall full of posters of some band that looked familiar. Her daughter has those same men on her wall. And the reason why he remembered their faces even though he had no idea who they were and what kind of music they were playing, was because his daughter would kiss them goodnight every night like she had lost her mind.

"You ask him where you are," Iris pointed to Calixto who was sitting rigidly on her armchair, looking as confused as Elmer. "Give me time to remove all of my posters, please."

Elmer nodded and darted his eyes to the tall and lanky man, sitting on the chair. He wondered why he looked familiar.

"Come here," Calixto called Elmer.

Elmer come forward, carrying the hammer that he had been swinging around based on the amount of crack on the wall.

"Do you know why you're here?"

Elmer looked at Calixto and answered truthfully. "No, sir." He had no idea what he was doing in this place and why he was demolishing this basement being lived by these two.

"Good. Look me in the eye, Elmer."

Elmer looked at Calixto with furrowed eyebrows. He was about to open his mouth to ask more questions when Calixto snapped his fingers in front of his face.

"Elmer, listen to me. I want you to help Iris to pack her things and brought them upstairs, to the big room right above us. And then, I want you to continue what you're doing here in the basement. Can you do that?"

"Yes, I can."

Calixto breathed a sigh of relief when he saw Elmer's eyes turn glassy. He was confused about why he was able to snap out of his hypnosis. His questions about Iris were getting longer. It added to things that he had to worry about, especially now that he had found his family!
