Chapitre 14: Chapter 14 The Sun City

After grabbing their stuff, both teens started exited the capitol and began their adventure...

---------------------------------------------

"Hey Kai, where are we going?"Retu asked after reaching the northmost of the fire nation continent. "Hang on tight" was the response he received. Retu just sighed and grabbed Kypher's staff by the wings.

After seeing him grabbing the wings Kypher just jumped in the air and started flying north.

"WOOOOOAAAAAHHHHH" Retu screamed out, hanging of the glider, while holding off for dear life. His reaction compared to a few hours ago, was immense.

---------------------------------------------

Flash back 3 hours ago...

"Wait, wait ,wait, slow down." Retu interrupted while Kypher was explaining. "You're telling me. That you are a fire bender. AND. An air bender." He paused to confirm. "HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?!" HE screamed out.

"Well if you didn't interrupt, I would have explained by now" Kypher just answered with a blank face. 'Uhhh, what a bothersome moment.' He started narrating what he had learnt from the guru a few weeks ago. He went on and on, talking about the avatar and his mission while, Retu just sat there and consumed the knowledge. After finishing, Kypher took a small toilet break, and let Retu just go over what he had learnt.

"You done contemplating?" He asked Retu after coming back. They had to hurry up and arrive at their destination before night fall. Retu just nodded his head, and accepted how unfair the world is.

"Cheer up, you will love where we are going..." Kypher tried. Retu just nodded his head again.

They packed up and left their camp.

-----------------------------------------------------------

"THIS IS AMAZING" Retu screamed with all his might. It was a phenomenal feeling, to fly like a bird in the sky. After a while, the sun started to go down and Kypher had managed to land on a large forested island.

"We are here. Come on lets go" Kypher said after relaxing his back, and taking a few deep breaths.

"Can you do this all the time?" Retu asked with a hint of sadness in his voice. It seemed that without some encouragement, he would be useless.

"There are techniques that allow you to propel yourself into the sky with fire. You just need a very good understanding of the element, some imagination, a massive chi-pool." This cheered Retu right back into his prime self.

After a bit more walking, they had finally arrived at an old and overgrown city.

That's right. This was the Sun Warrior's Ancient City.

It took them a while but they finally reached the inner most building of the city. They had reached the door, Kypher seemed prepared though as he brought a silver plate and reflected the sunlight towards the gem. The door opened after a few tries, and Retu just stared at Kypher, surprised.

"Come on we have to go inside" He beckoned. Both went inside the great hall with the statues "Great now learn the moves." Retu just looked at him as if he went insane. "Just do it." Kypher asked with exasperation. It took him a few minutes to memorise the moves, then correctly perform them. Retu on the other hand seemed to be struggling.

Kypher just shook his head and told him to continue what he was doing, then he went outside. During his studies in the Wa Shin Tong library, he had found a text written by one of the ancient sun warriors. The warrior had written a multiple detailed methods on how to call his brethren from hiding. One way was fairly simple. This was what Kypher was planning to do.

He stood near the edge of the temple and brought his hands together like a prayer, then he started separating the negative chi from the positive chi, which created a current of lightning. He aimed the lightning upwards and fire it. Then went back to the tower like nothing ever happened.

"What was that?" Retu asked mid moves. It seemed like he had nearly memorised them.

"I shot lightning into the sky." Kypher responded with a tone, as if he was talking about the weather.

"Oh ok" Retu was too immersed to realise what he was told. "WAIT WHAT?" and he fell on his ass. Retu quickly stood up and walked over to Kypher with a look, that told him he needed answers.

"Can you teach me?" His puppy eyes were horrible. But Kypher relented. After all he did need a strong teammate. "I'll teach you at the air temple after this." Retu just jumped in joy for a bit then continued memorised the rest of the dance.

"Why are we here then? The city was abandoned over half a millennium ago." Retu asked after he finished. The sun was already down and it seemed like no one would come.

"To learn from the masters. And they will help us meet with them" Kypher just nodded towards a light source that appeared a few seconds away from them. Retu just looked at the incoming warriors in fear. 'Why were there people here? How did Kypher know?'

"Which one of you did that?" a large man, with a feathered hood, and a painted face asked with authority. Kypher stood up and nodded.

"Welcome lightning bearer. What is your purpose here." This was the easiest way to have a decent relationship with the sun warriors. They were warriors who respected power, what better way to show of power other than to call lightning.

"We wish to learn from the masters. We give you our word, we have come for no other reason." He asked with a slight bow. The chief just nodded and told them to follow him. Everything that happened after that was like in the cartoons. The grabbed the eternal flame, headed for the stairs and started walking upwards, while the warriors started their beat and dance. This entire time Retu was just silent and just observed. However, it seemed like he couldn't hide his curiosity for ever.

"Kai, how do you know of all this." He started listing all he had seen Kypher do till that point. "You know how to lightning bend, something only royals know of. You know how to block chi-points, you know of this place. Who are you?" Kypher just sighed and answered his question in the most vague way possible.

"I learnt it all in a library. My friend's library." He started remembering the time he spent with Wa Shin Tong, but stopped himself from getting lost in the sea of memories. "Ready up, just look towards an cave, bow you head and present you flame." He let out a small grin. "Don't let it go out" He said cryptically.

"Wait what?" Retu realised what he meant by that and looked at Kypher, who unfortunately for him was already facing the tunnel with his head bowing slightly.

Retu franticly turned around and presented his flame towards the cave and waited. And waited. And...

"What no-" The air current coming out of the cave grew stronger and the flame gave out. He turned towards Kypher who was still in the same position with his eye's closed, with his flame still flickering.

"Hey give me some of your fire" Those words...Kypher smirked, what a satisfying sense of Deja vu he had just felt. He let go of his flame, which surprised Retu, and stood still with his back straight. He told Retu what the next steps were.

"Face towards the cave with a straight back. Once they appear start using the form you learnt in the temple."

"So that's why you told me to learn it." As realisation struck him, the caves started to shake and 2 pairs of eye's opened wide. Immediately after the dragon flew out of their respective caves scaring the life out of Retu. He was horrified. They were dragons for hell's sake. 'Once they appear start using the form you learnt in the temple' Kypher's words started to resound in his head. He calmed down and followed the movements.

To his fascination the dragons seemed to be following the movements. At the final movement they both reached the same spot, and the dragons stopped flying around. They flew down as close as possible to the duo and stared.

"Judgement time..." Kypher muttered to himself. He prepared himself for the results. His expectations were not misplaced. The dragons landed on the platform and breathed out their fire.

"AAAAAAAAAHHHHHH" Was the reaction of the unprepared Retu, he truly thought he was a goner, however the rainbow flames seemed, that seemed to be circling them, proved him otherwise. Kypher's voice seemed to cement his guess.

"Take a look, Retu. This is the true meaning of fire bending. Try to learn as much as possible." Kypher said with a calm face, but frenzying heart. The true meaning of fire. Unyielding, Unforgiving, yet peaceful, and protective. The spectacle lasted less than 10 seconds, yet it felt like eternity to the duo.

"Do you understand now?" He asked his friend

"Yes. Kai. Yes I do..." Retu seemed lost in thought, most probably trying to relive the scene, yet there was no point, memory and reality were 2 different concepts. "Let's go" He muttered, while Kypher nodded. They both descended the massive stone staircase, and walked up to the chief.

"Thank you" Retu bowed towards him, while Kypher stood next to him. "I am surprised there are still living dragons to this day. I thought General Iroh killed the last of its kind."

Kypher just chuckled: "The old man lied. He was protecting them, he was here as well, wasn't he." 'Wonder what he is doing now...' He thought to himself

The chief just nodded: "Yes, that is correct. Iroh was the last to face the masters, and they gave him the gift."

"Wait how did you know Iroh was here. Or that he lied." Retu asked in confusion. It seemed that soon enough his head will exploded from the insane information he was gaining.

"Another time perhaps." Retu just nodded, adding it to the pile of questions he was briming to ask. Kypher just nodded again at the chief before leaning froward whispering and . "The avatar will be here, in a few years, please do pass on my regards, then" The chief nodded back in bemusement. Retu just sighed.

The both left the city and headed to the edge of woods. Since is turned day time again, Kypher chose to start traveling immediately to finally reach his final destination before the story begins,

The Western Air Temple...
