Chapitre 45: Asta's Return and The Grimoire Tower
Almost a year had passed since Asta left. At first, we didn't even realize it: we thought he was just training. It was often hard to notice him in the church in the mornings because he always went off into the forest. Even after two days, we didn't suspect anything, since he sometimes stayed in the forest for long periods. But by the time we noticed his absence, it was already too late.
After searching for clues, we found a note under his pillow. In it, Asta wrote that he had left to travel with David and would return when the time came to receive his Grimoire.
When Father Orsi heard about this, he was furious. However, unable to vent his anger directly at Asta, he grumbled,
"When that rascal comes back, I'll give him a good thrashing!"
I, on the other hand, realized something else. When Asta returned, he would be much stronger. I couldn't even imagine how much stronger. So I decided to train hard as well. Because of this, I developed my own method of using wind magic, though unfortunately, it was still difficult to use. Nevertheless, I was making progress.
The day of the Grimoire Acceptance Ceremony was drawing near, but Asta still hadn't returned. Father Orsi was starting to worry.
"What if something happened to him?" he said grimly. "What if that fool got himself into trouble?"
"Don't say such nonsense, Father Orsi. Don't jinx him," Sister Lily chided.
I was worried too. Could the Asta I knew really miss such an important day?
Finally, the day of the ceremony arrived. I, Father Orsi, and the others were far from cheerful. Everyone thought that something must have happened to Asta. But there was nothing we could do, so I entered the Grimoire Tower and waited for the ceremony to begin.
Suddenly, a loud shout echoed from outside.
"That voice—I'd recognize it anywhere," I said, smiling as I turned toward the door.
"I'm here!" Asta yelled as he burst into the hall, covered in sweat. He was carrying a blushing Noelle, who was hiding her face with her hands.
"A-Asta, please put me down! People are staring!" she said, clearly embarrassed, though there was a hint of regret in her voice.
"Alright, alright. Sorry, I was just in a rush," Asta replied, setting her down gently.
People in the hall gave him strange looks, but Asta paid them no mind. It was clear he was searching for someone. Spotting me, he beamed.
"Yuno!"
"Asta, you made it," I said, stepping forward and extending my fist.
Asta grinned and bumped his fist against mine.
"Of course, I'm here."
Watching us, Noelle frowned.
"What a weirdo," she thought, glancing at me.
At that moment, the elder of the tower stepped forward.
"Attention! The ceremony is about to begin. Prepare yourselves."
With those words, books began descending from the shelves, glowing with various colors.
"Look! My Grimoire is bigger!" someone whispered.
"But mine is thicker," came a retort.
Noelle also received her Grimoire and was quietly overjoyed.
Suddenly, a green light filled the hall. A four-leaf clover Grimoire slowly descended toward me. As I took it in my hands, I said firmly,
"I will become the Wizard King."
The hall fell silent, everyone staring at the four-leaf clover. Then, applause erupted.
Amid the excitement, people noticed Asta. He was kneeling with his arms raised to the sky, as if praying for a Grimoire to descend.
The elder of the tower opened his mouth, likely to suggest Asta try again next year, but before he could speak, red and black lightning erupted in the air.
A tattered book appeared and began descending slowly toward Asta. Before he could even enjoy the moment, the Grimoire used telekinesis to snatch his spatial pouch.
"Hey! What the heck?!" Asta shouted, but his voice trailed off as the book opened.
His weapon was drawn into the Grimoire, and new inscriptions appeared on its pages.
