POV: Finn the human
It was just a natural thing that he knew of.
Like a sense if you would. he had just known Jake was there for some odd reason, a type of sense if you would.
It was not natural now that he thought about it.
A brother detector.
Was it a by-product of his wishes, or had it always been present? Finn was not sure.
And there was also the fact that he knew how Jake's mind worked.
Despite him being a thief in his past, you could say Jake was a good guy at heart.
He would try to help people if he could. And Finn was sure that Had Jake also heard the shouts for help, he would naturally come running to assist.
The shrubs started shaking for a solid second, and Jake finally walked towards Finn, the groceries he had bought in the weaved basket.
He supposed that was why he had only attacked with one of his hands.
Why Jake failed to use his stretchy powers further, only he could answer.
Finn was at least happy that his last resort had worked.
If it was not already obvious enough, Jake was indeed his last resort.
That was why Finn was very thankful for this Brother detector. It had proved to be useful.
Even the book that he had relied on had done its job as Finn had wanted from it.
Despite the slight awkwardness, he felt at using it for such brutish works, Finn was still satisfied that the Book was able to follow his commands.
It had come back to his side and went back to its invisible presence in what Finn believed to be either beside him or within him.
POV: Jake The dog
" Hehehe. I guess you found me. " Jake laughed awkwardly while dubbing his snout.
Jake said as he walked out where he was also hiding. He had arrived a while after Finn did.
After he had finished shopping for the groceries, his enhanced ears had picked up the cries for help far away from the market, and to Jake's no surprise, a familiar scent was also in that direction.
Jake felt it was just like Finn. Rushing into trouble to help others.
Jake had rushed to the area, jumping over vendors and easily bypassing the crowd until he arrived at what he now saw was a group of teens stealing candles and stuffing them into a bag.
A sudden nostalgia filled him seeing such a sight but he quickly shook it off.
' That was in the past,' Jake thought.
Looking closer, Jake identified them as the hooligans who loved candles!
A group of teen that had recently started being known for their notorious theft of candles.
And they had also started appearing in online forums.
" SNIFF, SNIFF. "
He was not too much bothered by them. They were not that good of fighters and Jake was sure even Finn could take them down.
Maybe the only problem Finn might face was being outnumbered but at that moment, Jake would make sure to step in and save the day!
What he was more interested in was where Finn was hiding.
He could not see him already charging at the hooligans, and from the scent he was getting, he had to be nearby.
' Maybe he has a plan.' Jake thought, and he only felt proud of the idea.
Finn then surprised him with his following actions.
How he managed to trap the hooligans with one attack, and finally, how he was going to get a candle made for him.
' Was that a ninja tool?' Jake remembers when Finn had earlier told him about the potential of the flying book.
And he was very impressed and jealous.
'How cool!'
Jake suddenly saw how two of the thugs were standing up and started rushing towards Finn, wanting to knock him out with a large candle.
And Jake knew it was his time to take action.
POV: FINN THE HUMAN
" You were so cool, Finn," Jake said enthusiastically after everything was handled.
Finn had borrowed a rope from the two ladies and tied up the teen hooligans.
They were not waking up any time soon, and if they did, they would struggle to get out of that knot.
He would know, it was a Palomar knot.
" Hehehe." Finn laughed happily
He knew Jake was much help at the very end there but was still happy for being praised.
Who wouldn't be?
" Are you done with your shopping?" He asked and peeked into the basket, searching for one specific item.
It was the most important thing.
And there he saw it. Looking extremely cool as the cold drops of condensed water run down its container's exterior.
It was strawberry ice cream!
He could already imagine the flavors melting in his mouth.
The sweet, sweet taste of strawberry, and he wished to rush home even sooner.
" Yeah, I'm done. What about you? Did you get everything you wanted? " Jake asked, looking around for anything Finn could have bought.
" Yeah, I bought a map. Be right back. Let me go get it. " Finn rushed back to where he had been hiding earlier to pick up the map, sword, and coins he had left behind.
He felt Scarlet's weight once again balanced in his arm, and he felt a slight dissatisfaction with his inability to wield it properly and masterfully.
Yes, he knew the basics, such as performing a swing or a slash.
Joshua had made sure to impart that to him and said it was enough.
Finn could not blame him, though. Joshua was not proficient in wielding a sword.
Finn believed the true reason the lessons had stopped was due to Joshua almost cutting his arm off while he was trying to teach Finn.
At least the old him had been aware enough to back out before things got bloody.
" Oh, look, Katie. It's a talking doggie. "
Finn had just returned to meet up with Jake and show him his map and was met with the sight of him being petted by the two ladies.
With how his tail was waving around, he looked to be enjoying the moment and Finn continued to approach, presenting his presence.
His appearance caught the two ladies' attention, who stopped petting Jake and turned to him.
It looked like they were here for him.
Finn thought they would start organizing their shop once more after he and Jake had helped them pick up the broken pieces of candles.
" We once again wanted to thank you, young man. " The older one said once more and Finn could see the smile on her face.
" We would like to know your name. To give every candle kid the name of the hero who saved us. " the younger lady said excitedly and Finn could see how happy she was as she was still patting Jake happily.
Had she never seen a talking dog?
What a rookie.
" Finn the human. "
Finn said and turned around dramatically.
The perfect position for the wind to catch his blonde hair as he started walking in the direction of the sunset.
He could hear the claps from the two ladies, and the scene would have been perfect If not for Jake also clapping instead of following behind him.
" Psst. Jake, what are you doing? Come on we're leaving. " Finn whispered
There was nothing more for them to do here and it was starting to t get late.
Jake quickly caught on and stood up. A sudden realization had come to him.
His body stretched and shifted as he took on the shape of a horse.
He trotted over to Finn, lifting him onto his back, and neighed powerfully.
A truly perfect sight. It could have even been painting-worthy if not for the two ladies spoiling it with their comments
" HOW CUTE! " They said loudly.
Finn had never felt more disappointed.
What cute? He wanted to be cool!
How truly embarrassing.
" " Goodbye Finn! " "
The sunset was looking especially beautiful today.
