-----------------
Sunlight brightly shone at the Koshien Stadium. The huge green field was filled with players holding different thoughts. Presently a boy with black hair and dark brown eyes stood at the mound getting everyone's attention. He swayed his foot from side to side to set the mound for his pitching. His heart rate increased as he glanced at his surroundings gripping the ball in his glove tightly. Loud cheers were echoing throughout the stadium each individual cheering for their team.
'The air…the atmosphere…the people. It never gets old', thought Sanada grinning as he stood on the mound. It was a dream come true that he was standing on the mound of the Koshien Stadium, and all this had come true only because of one person. When he was in his first year, he never would have imagined he would be standing in this place ever alongside Yakushi.
Flashback 2 years ago, Yakushi's Baseball Field. The current field was barely passable for anyone to play sports on, the grass wasn't even laid on the field fully and a few bases were missing to play baseball but Two people stood on the field busy with their tasks not caring for such things.
Raizou was sitting in the dugout supervising his son practicing batting with the wooden bat even though his son was still in the last year of middle school he regardless brought him to the Yakushi field.
As Raizou supervised his son he wondered how he was going to gather enough members for the team. He only had a few untalented brats, and they weren't going to cut it for now. But the next second, he heard a noise of someone jumping over a fence and he glanced over to find a boy crashing into the bushes.
The boy got up like nothing happened and dusted the leaves off of him. Then he started walking toward the school casually. Raizou's eyes sparkled and thought of including the boy in his team since he seemed athletic.
Raizou then hurriedly approached the boy in hopes of getting him to join the team. When he tapped on the boy's back to get his attention the boy looked back glaring at him furrowing his brows. "Say would you like to join the baseball team?", Raizou asked proudly.
The boy remained unaffected by the question Raizou asked. Then he broke out laughing, "What baseball team? —for this school…are you in your right mind? Why would I want to join such a failure of a team…besides there's nothing for me in return".
Raizou nodded as what the boy said was something to consider. "if you join, you'll get to skip some classes during school time. I can write you a pass from time to time", he said trying to trap the boy with his tempting offer. 'Any high school kid would think of this offer as something cool', he thought proudly internally.
Raizou thought correctly and the boy did seem more intrigued. "Ok, I'll come by the baseball field after school today", the boy said before leaving for his class which he was already late for.
Raizou grinned foolishly since he had gotten a boy with a little athleticism in him, unlike the other kids on the Yakushi Baseball team. They needed a lot of training…
After a few hours, in the Yakushi's Baseball Field. Raizou and the current baseball team players stood in a line introducing themselves to the new coach. "My name is Sanada Shunpei and I'm from…", Raizou's eyes widened upon hearing the familiar voice.
He glanced at the kid, Sanada who was introducing himself, and scoffed. He was played by a kid and now he has to write passes for the kid to miss classes. 'If the kid performs well, I don't mind writing him a pass though', he thought shrugging.
Sanada flashed a smile to the new coach. He was happy that they had a new coach now and he could now miss a few classes. It meant that he could skip school altogether!
Over the next few days, Raizou started hating the kid, Sanada more and more. He wouldn't show up to practice and somehow convince him to write passes for him to skip classes. He had enough and he stopped caring for that kid. If he didn't want to put effort then so, be it.
Then one day at night, Sanada came to the baseball field all beaten up. His face was filled with cuts and bruises. Since he had nowhere else to go, he had decided to come here thinking no one would be here at this time but he thought wrong.
Raizou was here training his son with the wooden bat again. "Oh, great!", said Sanada as he noticed his new coach and his weird son on the field practicing baseball like maniacs. He turned around to go somewhere else but a baseball was thrown at his back.
Sanada turned around pissed. "Pick it up", said Raizou. Sanada scoffed he had it with this nosy coach and picked the ball up to teach him a lesson.
"Stand on the mound and pitch on the red area of the wall. If you can then I'll admit it, you don't have to come to the practices anymore ever even if you're still in the team on the papers. If you can't then come to the practices and do what I tell you to do or just get out of the baseball team. Choice yours, decide", said Raizou as he stood on the side supervising Sanada who was in a pitcher's position on the mound aiming for the red-painted area of the wall in front of him.
Sanada nodded he was ready to shut the new coach up. He got into a pitching position and pitched but wasn't even close to the red area of the wall.
Raizou grinned at the result.
"2 more pitches for an out, isn't there?", said Sanada gripping the ball in his hands.
"Go ahead", said Raizou. He'll play by the kid's rule for once.
Sanada threw the next 2 pitches and didn't hit the ball to the red area whatsoever in fact, he wasn't even close. At this point, he didn't even know what a breaking ball was.
"Come to the morning practice tomorrow", said Raizou as he started to walk back to his son.
"What? But it's a Saturday!", said Sanada shocked. Why would a person come to school on a weekend?
"Morning Practice starts 7 AM!", yelled Raizou without even turning back.
Sanada sighed not knowing what he had gotten himself in.
The Next Morning, Sanada was sitting amongst his teammates. Raizou had them doing different drills and just toning the team up in particular since these kids needed that. By the end of the practice, everyone was breathing heavily. Which made Sanada hate baseball even more than he already did.
In the Next Practice, the team was shocked since the coach brought his middle school kid for practice. Everyone wondered if the coach was crazy, why would he bring a child to go through this rigorous training? But everyone's mouth remained wide open when they saw the Son with the small stature hitting a home run off of each pitch.
This made Sanada's mind explode with inspiration. All the bad thoughts he had of baseball disappeared after meeting Raichi and seeing the effort he put into his batting. He even asked Raizou why he would push his son this far and he only replied saying, "To clear the debts". He could only laugh at that thinking the coach couldn't be serious about that but he at the moment didn't know how serious his coach was.
From there Sanada started to take baseball seriously and came to the practices on time. He even did as his coach instructed and with the natural talent of pitching, he had come this far. Though he has to admit he hates the feeling of losing which might be the worst part of baseball. On the other hand, winning was a feeling on a whole new level.
As a public school, Yakushi wasn't expected to win any matches at the Regional Tournament and that was true for his 1st year but when he became a second year and led the team to win matches in the tournament. He couldn't even imagine he would be standing in the Koshien Stadium pitching; he had come a long way…
Present, back in the Koshien Field. Sanada sighed glancing toward the dugout where his teammates were cheering for him except for one individual who was staring at him. He sighed, 'I never thought I would be pitching. What was Rei thinking benching himself like that? Though I guess it makes sense since he has to rest up for the next matches, he's the ace after all'.
"This is it! The Final batter is coming up to bat for the Quarterfinals. Will Yakushi be able to win this match? Can they strike this batter out?", announced the announcer. The audience was in uproar they were excited about the outcome of the match especially since it was the quarterfinals of Koshien!

Witnessing the batter come up to the batter's box. Sanada tensed up a bit since he was pitching in Koshien he didn't want to mess up this chance for the team. They all had worked hard in training to come all this way to Koshien. Of course, this all wouldn't have been possible if it weren't for Rei and his training camp. The team went through major changes after the training camp getting ready for their first Koshien.
Sanada stood on the mound shaking off his anxiety. Immediately thereafter, he received a signal from his catcher, Kazuma, and wound up his glove to pitch. He held immense trust in Kazuma maybe not before but after Rei shaped him up, his intuition as a catcher had skyrocketed.
Sanada nodded to Kazuma and threw a cutter to the inside. This may not seem like a lot but if the catcher's intuition was correct this pitch was thrown to the right person.
Kazuma's intuition was proven correct when the umpire yelled, "Out!". Yakushi's fans exploded in cheers and even the Yakushi Dugout yelled out supportively for their pitcher.
Meanwhile in the audience reporters were having an interesting conversation between them. "This match is about to end, who do you think Is going to win?".
"Yakushi!"
"Yoshinaga!"
"That #10 is going to strike the batter out and win the match for Yakushi", said a reporter concluding.
"That could be or Yoshinaga makes a comeback if the batter scores", replied the other reporter.
"It could go any way. Let's just wait and see", said a random person interrupting their conversation.
Back in the Koshien Field. The fielders were spread apart evenly on the wide field. Raizou had instructed them to go back a bit since the batter was a heavy hitter with a wide swing.
Sanada then winded up his glove for the second pitch and this time threw a fastball to the outside as instructed by Kazuma. The ball went straight to the catcher hitting his mitt. The batter swung too wide and missed the timing of the pitch.
"Out!", said the umpire making the hearts of the Yakushi fans grow tenser.
Thankfully, Sanada was in the zone ignoring how important the current pitch was for the match. He winded up his glove for the last pitch and threw the pitch at Kazuma's signal. He threw his special pitch, Shuuto to the inside.
The batter was left stunned when he saw the pitch coming at him at a weird angle and broke close to the plate. The batter had the timing right and made contact with the bat, but he was jammed, and the ball rolled on the ground straight to the pitcher.
The batter remained standing in the batter's box still processing what had just happened while Sanada quickly rushed to scoop the ball and throw it to the first base. The batter looked at him and Sanada flashed a wide grin.
"Batter Out! Game Over! Yoshinaga was close but Yakushi High School has taken the Quarterfinals!", yelled the announcer.
The crowd went wild cheering for Yakushi. Each player's family was cheering for their kid proudly. The echoes reverberated throughout the whole stadium.
On the Field, the players jumped on each other in celebration. "Keha--kehahahaha!", laughed Raichi in disbelief. Everyone surrounded Rei and threw him in the air for celebration. Rei just let it be since he was getting used to the throwing by now. Every time they won a match, they would come to throw him in the air, he gets the enthusiasm but he was tired by now. Besides, he was just glad these rats won the match without any of his help. Just thinking about the other things, he has to prepare for the next match stressed him, but he decided to enjoy the moment.
On the other hand, Raizou was enjoying the moment to its fullest. He had snuck some alcohol in the dugout and taken a shot of that secretly. Rei knowing fully about this shook his head since he caught his irresponsible coach in the act, but he shrugged because it was Raizou they were talking about.
Anyhow, Rei was glad the team was united and could trust each other. Looking at the team now, Rei knew they had the potential to win Koshien. Though it was easier said than done since he was disappointed in the team for this match. The team barely won by 1 run he couldn't believe it. They had practiced and practiced but yet they could barely hold their own on the field. Which is why he decided to not bench himself in the next 2 matches since they were way too important to risk.
Yakushi High Vs. Yoshinaga High.
Yakushi Wins! 10-9.
Miles Away In A House, A kid with black hair and dark brown eyes sat Infront of a TV in his living room with the curtains blocking the sunlight. The images of the TV reflected on the kid in the darkness.
"Yakushi High? Not too far from here. Maybe I'll check out their tryouts this year. Should be a good team since they made it to Koshien Afterall plus that player's in their team", the kid muttered.
As a Baseball player, he had kept tabs on the upcoming news lately and found that Rei Fujikawa was the hottest new Baseball player this past 2 years. He had been on fire and seeing how Yakushi changed after he transferred there made him more eager to join the team. He thought for sure there were going to be a lot of players applying to Yakushi at the same time as him.
Tomobe was left to his intrusive thoughts as he continued watching the match in the darkness.
In Another House, Miles Away. In a brightly lit living room, a boy who had a small stature and light brown hair and eyes sat Infront of the TV doing his homework. "As expected Yakushi is turning into a horrifying team", he commented analyzing the match.
"Wasn't another player in the team that you were talking about", asked his mother appearing in the living room.
The boy turned around and replied, "Ah, Rei-San I guess he's benched. Maybe they're thinking of giving the other players more experience. After all, they'll need him the most if they want to win the Nationals".
In the Hotel of the Koshien Stadium, a team of players sat Infront of the TV watching the Quarterfinals and analyzing their next opponent, Yakushi High School.
"The Team is rising rapidly in Koshien, especially Rei Fujikawa".
"It's him with Sanada Shunpei as the relieve pitcher they have a good chance at winning this".
"Enough! All of you be prepared in your top conditions and we will run health checkups on all of you before the match tomorrow. Is that understood?", exclaimed the coach, Kotaro Sasaki.
The players nodded, all lost in their thoughts. As a competitive team who often goes to Koshien, they have experience and skills working for them that Yakushi, the rough team doesn't. Honestly, Kotaro thought of them as a joke, why should a Koshien-level team be lacking players? He just didn't like their playstyle. He grabbed his timer and met his players on the field for Night Practice.
At the same time, Yakushi in their Hotel room was going through…life-changing events as well. All Rei was trying to do was prepare them for tomorrow, but he didn't know why it turned out like this.
