"Wendy! Stop!" Grace finally cut her off. If she left Wendy, an entire day would not be enough for her to exhaust her opinion of Rufus and the cruel punishment he's bound to get and she was okay with that.
But Jace was listening and she didn't want him hearing any more of the obscene nonsense she'll utter in the process.
Grace lowered her voice, casting a glance at Jace, who was intently watching her face which was as red as a beet. "My ear is about to break, Wendy. Besides, Rufus can't even hear you," she managed to whisper.
"I don't ca….re…" Wendy trailed off, followed by a long pause on the line.
Grace could almost hear Wendy processing that information, realizing what Grace had subtly hinted at.
"Oh my God," Wendy whispered. "Did he hear me just now? Please tell me he didn't hear everything." Her voice was full of sudden panic. "Grace… oh no… how much… I didn't mean to…"
