Cherry's POV
If there was anything I hated so much, it was lateness. I hated it so much that I got irritated by people who practiced it.
And that's why I woke up early, precisely at 3:00am this morning. Yeah, I Know it was way early but the truth was that last night I couldn't sleep at all. I was so excited about my new job, I finally got to work in my dream company.
I prepared very quickly and by 4:30.p.m., I was good to go but I still waited till six before leaving for my first day of work. Only to end up in this deadlock traffic few minutes later.
I have waited for the vehicles ahead to move and before I knew it, I had waited for over an hour. I gnashed my teeth, hit on the steering wheel and checked the time for the one-millionth time, it was almost seven thirty.
"Not on my first day of work, please I can't be late."
I brought down my car window and called out to the vehicle driver in front,
"move it," I shouted venting my anger on the poor man. The driver by my side interfered quickly,
"Miss, can't you see the car ahead of his?"
But I didn't mind because my anger was more than that, I just hit on my steering wheel more. People usually say time tends to go faster when you need it to go slowly, that was what was happening now because it was already seven forty.
A fresh glimmer of hope hit me when the cars ahead started moving, finally I could move. I drove very fast and soon left the high way, I was driving through one of the streets that led to the company to make my journey shorter.
But then, as if it was all planned, my car stopped and then I realized it had a flat tyre. I quickly rushed out, took off the jacket I was wearing leaving me with just my white shirt. I took my spare tyre and screw jack and began changing.
As an independent woman, I knew a lot about engineering unlike those parasite- of -a- woman who depended on men for everything, the thought of those women irritated me.
"Miss, can I help you?"a man offered. Without looking or thinking, I replied.
"No, thank you, I gat this." and then he left. And by three minutes later, l had gotten more than five offers to help but I refused. After all, I was an independent woman, I could this.
I finally fixed the tyres and started the car but I couldn't believe it wouldn't start.
"Oh no, God, please help me," I almost cried as I hurried towards the car's rear. With my spanner, I began tightening the engines.
"Miss, do you need some help?" a middle aged man offered.
"No thank you I can do this," I assured.
"Don't worry, I'm almost a professional at this field after being a chauffer for years." But typical me just replied,
"No, thanks, I'm an independent woman, I can do this." Then the man left.
"Why are you so stubborn, I asked my chauffer to assist you and you still refused?" I heard an angelic voice say. I turned to see a gorgeous man in suit.
"That's because I can do this," I answered. I went to start the car again but it still wasn't starting.
"Would you still refuse my help," the gorgeous man asked .
I took my jacket and purse, locked the car doors and without replying, I took off, I started running, I could not waste any more time trying to get the engines on. The company was about two streets away and if I am not mistaken, I should be there by eight.
After running some few metres, I felt a car trailing me, I turned back to see the gorgeous man in his car.
"Look where your arrogance got you," he said mockingly.
Still running, I replied
"And how's that your business?"
"Are you still going to act stubborn or just accept my offer for a ride?" he asked.
"No, thank you," I replied and ran even faster totally ignoring the car.
Those rich people and their ego, I'm sure it must have hurt the man to have rejected his offer. I didn't know what exactly was his problem, I simply didn't want any help and how was it his concern? Anyways, I had to hurry to work.
Andrei's POV
I was actually disappointed when I got stuck in traffic. If only my driver had listened when I told him to take the other way. To think that I had a meeting to attend in two hour's time.
Well, today was a good day, I didn't want to scold the old man now, if not for anything but for karma. I needed all the luck I could get for this deal, it was a very huge contract and I couldn't afford to miss another deal again, not after the last one. Grandpa would definitely disown me if I did.
I was still thinking about whether my proposal would be appealing to the investors or not when I noticed a girl, no actually a woman but she looked very young.
"move it," she screamed at the car ahead of hers. The next thing she did was hitting the wheel very hard as if it was its fault. The she closed her eyes and started saying some words, obviously praying.
"What a funny girl," I thought and I found myself laughing at her actions. She looked very cute when she gnashed her teeth. Her long flowy black hair, long lashes and pink lips made her my perfect definition of beautiful, a clearer view of her was what I needed to turn my hypothesis of her into a fact.
The traffic became clear and in a few minutes, I lost track of her.
"Steve, are the team ready?" I asked Steven, my best friend and colleague at work when he picked up.
"Yes, we just need you," he said and I ended the call. I closed my eyes and heaved a long sigh,
"Luck, please be on my side."
Then I sighted her, the girl I met earlier. She was wrestling with a tyre obviously she was changing her car tyre. She must certainly be having a hard time, first it was traffic and now her car, what if she had somewhere important to go.
"David, slow down," I told my driver and watched her at a distance. She really changed the tyres herself though she got lots of offers. I imagined Alex or Steph changing tyres, no, they certainly couldn't. She tried to get the car started but it didn't, she opened the bonnet and started checking.
"David, go over, help her," I told David. At least, she needed help and as a good person who needed luck, offering help was the right thing to do. Though, to be sincere, it was the first time I had ever offered help to a woman I didn't know. And though it felt strange to me, I didn't know why exactly I was watching this woman instead of going to work.
"Sir, she said she could do it herself," David told me. What I heard annoyed me, I opened the door and went to her.
"Why are you so stubborn? I asked my chauffer to assist you and you refused?" I asked her.
"That's because I can do it," her tiny voice said. She tried starting the engines again but to no avail.
"Would you still refuse my help?" I asked again and without answering, she took to her heels.
I was actually shocked, such a proud woman who would rather walk than accept my help. It was absolutely ridiculous and from the look of things, this woman was not rich. Even the rich girls around me would beg for my help in this kind of situation but this one, she's so full of herself.
And what made me more upset was the fact that I felt like helping her so badly. I entered the car and my driver trailed her. She stopped and looked at me.
"Look where your arrogance got you,"
"And how's that your business?" she replied.
Indeed how was it my business but I didn't want to give up. It hurt me to have been rejected help from a woman.
"Are you still going to act stubborn or just accept my offer for a ride?"
"No, thank you," she replied and ran faster.
"Sir, remember you have a meeting," my driver reminded and my thoughts drifted back to the proposal.
