The wind howled and whistled past my ear as we stood high above the land of mankind. Here at the top of Mount Fujusan, the tallest mountain in all of Japan, there was nothing but pale white tufts of overlapping clouds. The mountains peak disturbed them as they passed through. Amaterasu's silk Kimono swayed in the breeze and the long trail of her Opi danced behind her. I watched in awe as her body grew so hot that the air around her rippled like mirage's in the middle of a desert. Her skin emitted a yellow glow until I had to shield my eyes from being blinded by it. She raised her hands, creating quick symbols that formed what looked like small grains of golden dust. She chanted lowly to herself but somehow her sweet voice carried, and the golden flecks went with it. My eyes widened as the sky ahead of us cracked and broke apart like shattered glass. Bright light broke through those fissures revealing the greenest of trees, and the brightest blue of skies. There was not a broken cloud or rainstorm in sight. It resembled the human world, but my world could never compete with the pristine and pure beauty of this one. The goddess turned to me, holding out her open hand.
"It is time to begin anew, my light."
Her voice was like the softest blanket. Her words wrapped you up into a cradle where you felt safe. But even as I reached out to take her hand something pulled at my heartstrings. I felt…like I was leaving something crucial behind.
I shook my head hard. Father. It had to be father. We'd never been apart in this life. I worried for him, but I swore to myself that it was only a year away and then I could return. That did nothing to stop the tears running down my cheeks and collecting at the base of my chin. Closing my eyes tight to stop the unwanted perspiration I laid my hand in Ama's, surrendering my old life, for this new and unfamiliar one.
