Chapitre 21: Protect & Survive(5)
(With Rodeo - 8:30 AM)
Rodeo and Amelia with their M4A1's strapped behind their backs and their SAR9X pistols on their hands, were still walking with no luck in finding the so-called 'Dirt Road' which Rodeo mentioned.
Rodeo then stops and hears something, "Amelia , hold up."
"What is it?"
Rodeo then crouches down and slowly walks to the source, Amelia does the same and follows him. Rodeo then stops next to a tree still crouching down and uses the tree as a cover.
Amelia was next to him and then she asked, "Rodeo, what's the matter?"
"We got company."
Rodeo then peeks out of cover as well as Amelia and he was right. There were two GOC soldiers with assault rifles. They haven't noticed them yet, but they need to be taken out.
"Ok, you take the one on the left and I will take the one on the right. And remember, don't hesitate."
Amelia nods and then they point their assault rifles on their heads from a good distance away.
Then Rodeo says, "Now."
Next moment, they pulled the trigger and immediately the two GOC soldiers got shot in the head and fell to the ground dead.
"Hold up, I need to check something."
Rodeo approaches the two GOC soldiers' bodies and removes one of their ammo pouches with belt attachment, then heads back to Amelia and gives it to her.
"Wrap this ammo pouch belt around your waist and use the pouch to store your ammo."
Amelia wraps the belt around her waist, Rodeo then gives her the assault rifle and pistol magazines as she keeps them in the ammo pouch.
"Alright, now let's move. If they are still here, then that means we need to be careful."
Rodeo then moves forward and takes a look at the bodies lying on the ground and again he starts having flashbacks to the three GOC soldiers he killed. The flashbacks stopped again and he was now breathing heavily, trying to keep his breathing under control.
"Rodeo?"
Rodeo stops and looks at her, "Yeah?"
"Are you feeling alright?"
"Y-Yeah, I'm fine."
Amelia looks at the bodies and says, "I... feel..."
"Horrible?"
"Yeah."
"Look, we both don't want to do this but... if we make any mistakes, we won't get out of this forest alive. So let's bear with it for now."
"Ok, Rodeo."
Rodeo nods and then starts moving forward. Amelia, while she might have not killed a person in her life, even though she's seen D-class die in front of her for the sake of experimentation, ending a person's life by her own hands made her feel terrible, but she knew even Rodeo was feeling the same thing as her right now. Guilt and regret.
Both continued and kept their weapons ready in case they were going to make contact with the enemy. They saw a small stream in front of them but also a GOC soldier was next to the stream smoking a cigarette with his helmet off.
"I got this." Rodeo then takes out his combat knife and approaches the soldier quietly in a crouched down position and when he was close enough, he quickly covered his mouth and stabbed him in the neck with the knife.
The soldier struggled only for a moment and then he went limp. Rodeo quickly drags his body to a nearby bush and hides him there.
"Come on."
Amelia nods and continues to follow him. They both crossed the stream, got their feet wet and reached the other side. Rodeo and Amelia looked around the area while still moving to make sure they weren't gonna get ambushed.
They kept moving for at least 15 minutes till Rodeo stopped and spotted at least six GOC soldiers patrolling on different sides of the area. Two were on the right side standing guard. One was sitting next to a tree checking his weapon. The other three were on the left side a bit further away conversing with each other regarding something.
Rodeo and Amelia quickly crouched down and hid behind some bushes.
"Shit... ok, we got to take them out quietly. If we alert even one of them we might be in trouble and attract every GOC in the forest."
"Alright, so how do you want to approach this?"
Rodeo then looks at the area carefully to see if there are any good spots to hide and approach the soldiers without being spotted.
Then Rodeo gets an idea, "Alright, the one next to the tree doesn't know what might happen so we can take him out easily. The two on the right are guarding so they won't know if we take down the one next to the tree since their backs are turned. The three on the left are far away from those three so they won't know if we take out the one's on the right side of the area and the one next to the tree... so we take out the one's on the right side and one next to the tree."
Amelia nods and then both of them carefully move and position themselves to take out the three targets.
"Amelia, take the one next to the tree and I'll deal with the two standing guards."
"Ok."
Rodeo takes aim at the two soldiers standing guard, while Amelia takes aim at one next to the tree.
"Now."
Rodeo then quickly takes out the two soldiers while Amelia takes out one at the tree.
"Alright, now let's leave before the other three spot us."
Both of them immediately leave the area without being spotted by the other three who were still busy with their conversation.
"I'm surprised they didn't spot us. Must be quite the conversation they're having."
"Could be."
Both of them halted their steps for a moment and quickly put a new magazine for their rifles and continued on.
"I'm surprised it hasn't rained yet."
"Yeah... Do you think we'll find that road?"
"We will. We just need to find it that's all."

(20 minutes later)
The duo continued walking, but found no resistance yet. Rodeo spots something a few feet ahead. At least nineteen GOC soldiers with assault rifles, shotguns and submachine guns were heading this way.
"Oh no. Amelia, come on, we need to hide."
"But where?"
Rodeo looks around and spots a very big bush next to a tree.
"Quickly hide there."
Rodeo and Amelia quickly hide inside the big bush and surprisingly they were well hidden. They didn't utter a word as they heard the patrol's footsteps getting closer.
"Don't. Move. They're not onto us yet." Rodeo whispered to Amelia.
Amelia nods and covers her mouth with her hands and keeps herself quiet with Rodeo next to her. They heard the footsteps were now close and they could even hear them talking. The footsteps continued and then it slowly died down until it was just silence.
"Do you think they're gone?"
"Seems like it."
Both of them then got out of the bush and kept moving forward.
"That was a very big patrol."
"Yeah, seems like they really are hell bent on killing us."
"No, they're only hell bent on killing... me." Rodeo said, looking down.
Rodeo starting having a flashback to the burning helicopter again and then the flashback was gone. He shook his head and rubbed the back of his head with his hand.
Amelia noticed but decides not to ask him right now.

(10 minutes later)
The duo were continually walking through the forest with no luck in finding the dirt road. That is until...
"Hey, look."
Amelia looks at Rodeo with him pointing forward and sees a dirt road.
"Finally we can get out of this forest."
The duo were about to head for the road until they heard something coming from the right side of the road. They both quickly hid behind a rock and took a peak and saw at least four military Humvees with the GOC logo going down the road till they were out of sight.
"Hmmm, let's follow the road and see where it leads."
They both then kept moving along the treeline, going in the direction where the road leads.

(5 minutes later)
The duo were looking at something while in a crouched down position, feeling shock while hiding behind a tree.
"You gotta be kidding me."
They were looking at a large GOC camp with multiple big tents and a buttload of GOC soldiers and Humvee's parked. The entire camp was surrounded in metal caged fences with four gates on each side of the camp with soldiers guarding the gates. It seems like this camp was here for quite some time.
"We can just ignore the camp."
"No... we're gonna steal one of their Humvees and drive our way out of the forest through the dirt road we saw."
"You know that the entire camp is filled to the brim with GOC soldiers and we have barely limited cover to go through there."
"I know Amelia, but if we walk along the dirt road it might take an entire day to reach the outside of this forest. But with a vehicle we can at least get out of this forest quicker."
"Still we need a way to sneak in."
Rodeo was about to think of something until the entire forest started getting covered in a white fog.
"Well this is surprising."
"Huh? Seems like luck is on our side. We'll use the fog as cover and get inside the camp. Come on."
The duo head towards the camp using the fog as a way to get close to the camp. The duo then stop next to a metal caged fence and Rodeo turns into a bomb.
"Switch on." He then activates the bomb and makes a hole in the fence without creating a large explosion sound.
The duo then went through the hole and headed for one of the Humvees parked in the camp avoiding any GOC troops. They finally reached a Humvee and it had a machine gun on top.
"Ok I need you to enter the Humvee and hotwire it and don't start the engine until I get back."
"Where are you going?"
"I'm going to create a diversion so that we can get out of the camp easily. So stay here. I'll be back."
Rodeo then the turns the driver's door glass window into a bomb and blows it up to atoms without the explosion being loud. Amelia then opens the door from the inside using the broken window and enters it. Rodeo then continues into the camp to find anything that can be used as a diversion without being spotted by the GOC by using the fog, some of the tents and crates as cover.
"If I can find some explosives, then maybe I can blow them up and get their attention away from us."
Rodeo thought it would be perfect, he only just needs to find the explosives. Rodeo then saw a big tent and went into it. He saw that there was a table with a map of the forest and pictures of some tall humanoid which were mostly blurry.
'So, they're not hunting me but they are hunting this thing whatever it is. That means those patrols were not for me but for this humanoid after all... looks like we were in the wrong place at the wrong time.' He thought.
Rodeo looks at the map and saw that the dirt road they saw actually does lead to the outside of this forest. Rodeo looks around for any explosives and then he sees a small metal green box underneath the table and opens it.
Luckily, it had six grenades stored in it. Rodeo picks up the grenade and stores it in his hollow stomach.
"Let's make use of these."
Rodeo then leaves the tent and quickly saw a tent a few feet away and heads for it quietly without being spotted. He entered the tent and saw two GOC soldiers checking at some of the crates. Rodeo then pulls out his SAR9X pistol and combat knife and approaches them before quickly stabs one in the neck, before the other one could react, Rodeo shoots him in the head three times and both of them go limp.
Rodeo then quickly opens one of the crates and finds some rocket launchers with their rockets and missiles inside of it. Rodeo then places a grenade inside of it and doesn't turn it into a bomb, but on the grenade's pin instead, because once the pin disappears the grenade will go off.
"Alright, now let's-"
"Hey babe, I brought some coffee-...eh?"
Hearing a feminine voice behind him, Rodeo turned around and saw a female GOC soldier with her helmet off. She had lilac eyes and short red hair and was holding two coffee cups. She had a look of shock on her face.
Rodeo points the pistol at her head and says, "Don't move."
The soldier slowly places the cups on the ground and then puts her hands up.
"Don't do anything stupid."
In a quick reflex, the soldier quickly pulls out her pistol but Rodeo shoots her in the head and she collapses on the ground dead. Rodeo drags her body into the tent and hides the three bodies behind the crates. He grabs the cups on the ground and places them on the crates and leaves the tent.
Rodeo then heads for another tent but the tent has three tables with radios and maps and there is only one soldier sitting next to the table on a chair, talking to someone through the radio.
"This is base Camp to patrol. Any luck on finding the entity. Over."
—Negative, base camp. No sign of the entity but we did found our men shot down and one slit by the throat. I think some professional is roaming in this forest.
"Alright. Stay on guard and give me more intel later. Base camp out."
The transmission ends.
Rodeo then gets close to him and shoots him in the head before putting his body underneath the table. Rodeo then places a grenade on the table and turns its pin into a bomb before leaving the tent.
Rodeo then started having flashbacks again but they were gone instantly. Rodeo shook his head and kept moving forward. Rodeo then hides behind a tent and spots two Humvees parked together. He heads for them and places one grenade each underneath the Humvees.
"That will do it. Now to head back to Amelia."
Rodeo then heads back to Amelia without the GOC noticing.
Meanwhile Amelia was sitting in the driver seat of the Humvee waiting for Rodeo and luckily no GOC soldier has found her yet. She then saw a silhouette coming from the fog. She readied her pistol in case that person was a threat.
Luckily the silhouette turned out to be Rodeo. Rodeo then enters the Humvee and sits on the front right side seat which was next to the driver's seat.
"Ok we're good. Now did you hotwire the Humvee?"
"Took some time but yeah we're good to go."
"Ok then let's begin." Rodeo then does a thumbs up with his right hand and says, "Switch on." He then brings his thumb down, "Wait for it."
In six seconds, explosions erupted in three different areas where Rodeo placed the grenades and it got every GOC soldier's attention.
"DRIVE NOW!!!"
Amelia quickly starts the engine and starts driving towards the gates and rams right through it and begins driving down the dirt road. One of the GOC soldiers saw them and shouted.
"Shit!" He then looks at the other soldiers, "Go after them and shoot them on sight."
The soldiers nod and head for the remaining Humvees and drive after them. While the remaining soldiers were trying to put out the fire.

(With Rodeo and Amelia)
Rodeo was just looking outside the window while Amelia was driving. Rodeo then looked at the right view mirror and saw GOC Humvees were coming right behind them.
"Ahhh shit. Amelia we got company."
Amelia then looks at the left view mirror and saw what Rodeo meant. GOC Humvees with soldiers manning the machine gun turret on top of them.
"Any ideas?" Amelia asked.
"Just one." Rodeo then went to the back seat and saw the hole on the roof which allowed him to access the machine gun.
He then quickly man the machine gun and cocks it and sees the GOC Humvees start firing at them. Rodeo then starts firing at one of the Humvees with the machine gun and is able to kill the driver, and the Humvee starts barrel rolling and crashes onto a tree.
"Keep driving." Rodeo then starts firing at the other Humvee and is able to kill the gunner and then shoots the tires and the Humvees crash head first into a tree.
Rodeo then saw another Humvee coming from the treeline trying to ram them but they missed. The gunner on the Humvee started firing but Rodeo ducks from the shots and then he quickly fires back killing the gunner.
The driver of the Humvee rammed the back of the Humvee thay Rodeo was on. Rodeo then shoots the driver and the Humvee turns to the left and crashes into a tree.
"Seems like we're clear for now." Rodeo murmured before he went back to the front seat as Amelia continued driving although she was breathing quite heavily.
'You alright?"
"Yeah, it's just the adrenaline acting up."
"Want me to drive?"
"Do you even know how to drive?"
"I have a license back in my world. So yeah I know how to drive."
Amelia pulls on the breaks and exits the driver seat, letting Rodeo drive while she sits in the front seat. Rodeo then starts driving while Amelia takes a nap for a few minutes.
