TLN: Timely Rain was the nickname for Song Jiang, a leader of outlaws who lived during the Song Dynasty of China. He always comes to the aid of the person in need in the nick of time, hence the nickname. The author is probably trying to bring out the notion of Hei Zeji being a "timely rain" for Lin Sanjiu by changing his name from "Hei Zeji" to "Song Zeji" as shown in the title.
