Shiro lay on his bed, his body still sore from the exertions of the UA entrance exam. His eyes followed the slow, steady rotations of the ceiling fan above him. Hands tucked behind his head, he stared blankly, his thoughts spinning faster than the fan.
'I'm in a pitiful state,' Shiro thought, his lips curving into a faint frown. His mind replayed the intense ten minutes of the practical exam—every sprint, every hit, every ounce of strength poured into defeating those robots. "It must've been all the adrenaline and hits I took… That was the most intense ten minutes of my life." He sighed deeply, his eyes narrowing. 'Well, it's time to see if it was all worth it.'
"System—" he began, but paused when his mother's booming voice cut through the silence.
"Shiro! Are you hungry, dear?!" she called from the living room.
"No!" Shiro shouted back, his voice hoarse from irritation.
"What did you say?!" his mother yelled, her voice louder.
Shiro groaned and facepalmed, his fingers pressing against his temple. 'Things have been like this for a whole week now,' he thought bitterly. 'I'm getting tired of yelling back and forth. Can't she just come in here?'
"Shiro!" his mother called again, her tone unrelenting.
"NO!!" he bellowed, irritation seeping into his words.
"Okay! Just let me know when you want to eat!" she replied cheerfully.
Shiro let out an exasperated sigh, lowering his hand as he stared back at the ceiling. 'I'd rather starve than keep yelling every time I'm hungry,' he thought, his brows furrowing.
Resolving to focus on something productive, Shiro steadied his breathing. 'Alright, it's about time I spun again,' he thought, his resolve hardening. "System," he said aloud, his tone sharp and commanding.
[Yes?] the system replied, its familiar blue screen appearing before him, the text hovering gently in mid-air.
"Show me my XP points," Shiro instructed. He already had an idea, but he wanted confirmation.
[Current XP: 10,004] the system displayed in bold, white text.
Shiro smirked, sitting up slightly and resting his arms on his knees. 'I'll be left with just 4 XP, huh? I hoped it'd be more.' Shaking the thought aside, he declared, "I'd like to do an Epic spin."
[Understood. Confirming purchase: Epic Spin — 10,000 XP. Remaining XP will be 4. Would you like to proceed?]
"Yes," Shiro replied confidently, though a part of him considered saving the XP for a future Legendary spin.
[Spinning…]
The words glowed brightly for a moment, and Shiro's heart rate quickened. 'I wonder what it'll be this time,' he thought, his anticipation growing. The blue screen vanished, replaced by a new notification.
[Spider-Man: Peter Parker: Spider-Sense Unlocked!] the system announced, the new text hovering above his face.
Shiro raised an eyebrow, his mind racing as he analyzed the utility of his new ability. 'Spider-Sense, huh? Not too shabby. That'll definitely improve my combat skills and help me save people more efficiently.'
A faint smile crossed his lips. "Although it isn't as grand as the Armored Titan, I'm incredibly satisfied with that," Shiro said, voicing his thoughts.
[Congratulations! Tutorial Complete!] the system declared suddenly. A new red screen appeared, its glow ominous.
"Tutorial?" Shiro questioned, his brows knitting together. "What do you mean?"
[The Tutorial Phase of the Multiverse Power System has been completed,] the system repeated.
Shiro leaned back, his expression skeptical. "Tutorial? What does that mean? Explain."
[The Tutorial Phase was designed to familiarize you with the system's mechanics, including XP accumulation, mission completion, and power acquisition. You have successfully completed four spins, acquiring four unique abilities: Metavision, Armored Titan, Adaptation, and Spider-Sense. These abilities were granted to establish a foundation for your journey.]
Shiro rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "So what happens now that the tutorial is over?"
[Now, the system's difficulty increases significantly. Missions will be more challenging, requiring greater effort and skill to complete. Additionally, the XP thresholds for spins will increase by a factor of ten.]
Shiro's eyes widened slightly. "A factor of ten? You're telling me I'll need 500,000 XP for a Legendary spin now?"
[Correct. The requirements for spins are now as follows: Common - 3,000 XP, Uncommon - 10,000 XP, Rare - 50,000 XP, Epic - 100,000 XP, Legendary - 500,000 XP, and Mythical - 1,000,000 XP.]
Shiro exhaled slowly, processing the information. "So the easy missions and quick spins were just a warm-up," he muttered.
[Precisely. The tutorial was structured to provide you with a starting set of abilities to prepare you for the challenges ahead. The Real Phase will now begin.]
Shiro frowned, his mind piecing things together. Then a smirk tugged at his lips. "So if I had chosen to do only Rare spins instead of going for higher rarity, the tutorial would've ended after the fourth spin anyway?"
[Yes. The tutorial would have concluded after four spins, regardless of their rarity. The purpose was to provide a balanced starting point for your abilities.]
'I made smart decisions then… I'll have to thank Mom later,' Shiro thought with a small grin.
…
A week passed since Shiro unlocked Spider-Sense, and his recovery had progressed steadily. The soreness in his body had faded, and his energy levels were back to normal. He sat on his bed, scrolling through his phone, when the door to his room burst open with a loud bang.
"Shiro!" his mother called, her voice brimming with excitement. She waved an envelope in her hand like a victory flag. "It's a letter from UA! This is it!"
Shiro's heart skipped a beat as he stared at the envelope. His mind raced with possibilities, a wave of nervousness creeping in despite his outward composure. He stood slowly, taking the envelope from her hand.
"Thanks, Mom," he said, his voice steady despite the storm of thoughts swirling in his mind.
'Thinking about it now… I'm registered as quirkless and didn't demonstrate any quirk during the exam. What if they don't want me? All that effort…' Shiro thought, his grip tightening on the envelope.
His mother patted his shoulder reassuringly. "Open it! I just know you made it in."
Nodding, Shiro tore the envelope open carefully. Inside was a small device—a projector. His eyebrows rose slightly in surprise as he placed it on his desk and pressed the activation button.
A burst of light illuminated the room, and a holographic image of All Might appeared. The Symbol of Peace stood tall in his bright yellow suit, his signature smile radiant.
"Hello, young Shiro!" All Might boomed, spreading his arms dramatically. "You may be wondering why I am the one in this video. Well, the reason is simple! I am a new teacher at UA!"
"Now, onto the reason you are watching this video!" All Might continued, his voice booming. "Young Shiro, your performance in the practical exam was nothing short of remarkable. You displayed quick thinking, resourcefulness, and courage—all qualities of a great hero! But that's not all!"
The video transitioned to footage of Shiro during the exam—dodging projectiles, outmaneuvering robots, and using the environment to his advantage. "While you did not demonstrate a quirk, you showed the heart of a hero," All Might said. "UA values more than just quirks. We value the spirit and determination of those who wish to protect others."
Shiro's chest felt lighter as the words sank in, though he waited for the final confirmation.
"After careful deliberation by the examiners, I am thrilled to inform you that you have earned a spot at UA High School! Welcome to the Hero Course!" All Might announced, raising a triumphant fist.
The video wasn't over. All Might leaned closer to the camera, his expression serious. "And one more thing," he added. "You scored an impressive 44 combat points. But what truly set you apart were your rescue points. The examiners awarded you an additional 20 rescue points for your strategic and considerate actions during the exam, bringing your total to 64 points!"
Shiro's jaw tightened slightly in surprise. 'Rescue points… I didn't even think about that. I was so focused on taking down robots.'
All Might's smile returned. "Congratulations, young Shiro! UA is proud to welcome you to the Hero Course. I look forward to seeing you in class! Plus Ultra!"
The hologram faded, leaving the room in silence except for the faint hum of the projector.
"You did it!" his mother exclaimed, wrapping him in a tight hug. "I knew you would!"
Shiro hugged her back briefly, his gaze steady and determined. "Yeah, I did. But this is just the start. I've got a long way to go."
His mother patted his cheek, smiling warmly. "I know you'll do great."
