Chapitre 35: Chapter 35: Pidgey’s Strength

"Even if the type advantage is against me, I'll still win! Kai Ross, use Vice Grip!" shouted the Samurai Boy, initiating the battle with confidence. His Pokémon, Kai Ross, responded with determination, dashing forward with its horns glowing as Normal-type energy charged them. Its target was Pidgey, who floated midair, light and agile.

"Dodge the attack!" Ash commanded, calm and observant. Pidgey deftly evaded the telegraphed attack with a quick detour in the air. The Normal-type Pokémon missed its mark and stumbled, its momentum sending it crashing toward the ground. Vulnerable and exposed, Kai Ross struggled to recover.

"Now, use Wing Attack!" Ash seized the opportunity, instructing Pidgey to strike. Pidgey's wings shimmered with sky-blue energy as it dived, its Dual Wingbeat transforming into powerful energy wings that slammed into Kai Ross. The impact sent Kai Ross spiraling into the dirt, creating a shallow pit.

Despite landing the blow, Ash furrowed his brow. While the attack was effective, it wasn't optimal. He'd expected Pidgey to strike from the sides, exploiting Kai Ross's lack of defense, but the small bird had chosen a frontal assault, where Kai Ross was strongest.

Ash sighed inwardly. Pidgey has potential but lacks experience. There's much to learn and train. Still, the battle wasn't over yet.

The Samurai Boy's Misjudgment

"Kai Ross, get up!" the Samurai Boy called out nervously. To his relief, his Pokémon managed to stand, shaking off the impact. Confidence returned to the boy's face. "See? Kai Ross is stronger! Keep attacking!"

Kai Ross charged again, its fierce expression betraying its determination. This time, its powerful legs propelled it forward with even more force, its horns pointed directly at Pidgey.

"Pidgey, get airborne! Use Gust!" Ash countered swiftly, opting for a long-range strategy. Pidgey flapped its wings hard, lifting itself higher than before. Out of Kai Ross's reach, the small bird began whipping up a gust of wind.

The Flying-type energy in Pidgey's wings created a whirlwind that enveloped Kai Ross. The winds struck from all sides, leaving the Normal-type Pokémon unable to shield itself. The Samurai Boy watched in shock as Kai Ross staggered under the relentless pressure.

Kai Ross's Weakness Exposed

Kai Ross let out a pained cry as the strong winds buffeted its body. Unlike physical attacks, Gust targeted its Special Defense, an area where Kai Ross was far weaker. The damage was evident—its sturdy legs trembled, and it struggled to maintain balance.

"How is this possible?" The Samurai Boy's confidence wavered. His once-dominant Kai Ross was faltering under the relentless assault of Ash's small but agile Pidgey.

Ash, observing from the sidelines, shook his head slightly. He still doesn't understand type matchups or Pokémon strengths and weaknesses. No wonder he lost to Gary.

"Pidgey, use Gust again!" Ash commanded. The small bird flapped its wings once more, summoning another powerful whirlwind.

Kai Ross tried to dodge, but its movements were sluggish. The swirling winds knocked it off its feet, pinning it to the ground. Grass and debris mixed with the gale, adding to the damage. When the winds subsided, Kai Ross lay motionless, clearly unable to continue.

"Kai Ross is unable to battle! Pidgey wins!" Misty declared, raising her hand.

Victory and Reflection

"How could this happen?" The Samurai Boy stared at his defeated Pokémon in disbelief. This wasn't the first time Kai Ross had been overpowered—just yesterday, Gary had bested him too. His faith in Kai Ross's strength had been shaken again.

On the other side of the battlefield, Pidgey fluttered down to Ash, chirping happily for praise. Ash smiled warmly. "Well done, Pidgey. That was a great fight. But there's still room for improvement," he said, gently critiquing his partner's performance.

Pidgey tilted its head, processing Ash's words. It seemed to sense the difference between its moves—Wing Attack hadn't been as effective as Gust, even though it was supposed to be a stronger move. The small bird couldn't quite grasp why, but Ash decided to save the explanation for their next training session.

For now, let Pidgey reflect on its performance. Understanding comes with experience, Ash thought.

Strategic Growth

As Ash congratulated Pidgey, he mulled over something he'd observed during the battle. The environment can amplify a move's power. The grass mixed with the gust enhanced the damage. This insight could be useful for future battles, especially when facing tougher opponents.

Meanwhile, the Samurai Boy tended to his fallen Kai Ross, his expression a mix of disappointment and determination. Though his pride had taken a hit, there was a glimmer of resolve in his eyes. Perhaps this loss would serve as a lesson for him to better understand Pokémon battles.

Ash turned his attention back to Pidgey. The little bird seemed eager to keep fighting, its confidence boosted by the victory. Ash nodded to himself. Pidgey's potential is limitless, but there's still so much to teach.

---

Closing Thoughts

With the battle over, Ash, Misty, and the Samurai Boy exchanged a few words before parting ways. The Samurai Boy vowed to train harder and learn from his mistakes, while Ash looked forward to the afternoon's training session with Pidgey.

As they walked away from the battlefield, Ash reflected on how far he and Pidgey had come since they first met. The journey was long, but with every battle, every victory, and every loss, they grew stronger together.
