By dinnertime, when the other six members returned, they found that Qin Jian and Shui Bing'er's bedroom was eerily quiet.
"Huh? What's going on with them?" Yu Hairou asked curiously.
Xue Wu frowned slightly. "Don't tell me the two of them stayed in the bedroom all afternoon?"
"They wouldn't have been… sparring in there, would they?" Qiu Ruoshui teased.
Gu Qingbo pondered for a moment and said, "That's unlikely. Who spars in a bedroom…"
"Then what are they doing?" Shen Liuyu habitually ran a hand through her light green hair.
"Why don't we go check?" Shui Yue'er suggested.
"We were waiting for you to say that!"
The others chimed in unison, their voices mischievous.
Shui Yue'er was promptly pushed to the front of the group as they made their way upstairs.
"Hey, hey, hey! Why are you all pushing me up here?" Shui Yue'er protested, flailing her arms in disarray.
"Hehe, because you're Bing'er's sister! If anything… awkward happens, Bing'er won't stay mad at you," Qiu Ruoshui joked with a sly grin.
"You're all terrible!"
Shui Yue'er pouted but reluctantly knocked on the door. "Sis? Captain? Are you in there?"
No response.
The six of them exchanged puzzled glances.
"Yue'er, open the door and take a look," Xue Wu suggested suddenly.
Shui Yue'er hesitated for a moment but eventually reached out.
Click…
The door creaked open slowly.
The tranquil bedroom was bathed in the soft glow of the setting sun, its rays spilling onto the plush bed and illuminating two peacefully sleeping faces.
"Huh? They're asleep? And on the same bed…" Shen Liuyu whispered.
The group tiptoed inside, approaching Qin Jian's bed.
They saw Qin Jian and Shui Bing'er fully clothed, even their shoes still on, lying on their sides facing each other. Their steady breathing, one deep and one soft, filled the room.
The group exchanged glances and, with tacit understanding, quietly retreated, carefully closing the door behind them.
"What on earth were they doing this afternoon? They look exhausted…"
Back in the first-floor lounge, they finally resumed speaking in normal tones.
Yu Hairou crossed her arms. "As long as their clothes stayed on, that's all that matters."
"Exactly. Bing'er knows her limits," Shen Liuyu agreed.
At this moment, Xue Wu glanced toward their room and suddenly said, "Let's go have dinner. We can bring some food back for them later. If they miss mealtime, they'll be starving."
"Whoa, Xue Wu, are you actually concerned about the captain?" Qiu Ruoshui asked in surprise.
"I'm worried about Bing'er!"
Xue Wu turned her head and said coldly, "Our captain still has a long way to go before earning my approval!"
By the time Qin Jian and Shui Bing'er woke from their nap, they saw dinner placed neatly on the bedside table.
The two exchanged a glance, warmth flickering in their eyes.
Being cared for by others always felt so comforting…
"I really overdid it with the training today…"
Qin Jian stretched lazily as he got up. "Let's finish dinner quickly and get some rest. Tomorrow's team training will be up to you."
"Okay…"
Shui Bing'er responded softly.
But as she recalled the afternoon's events, her face flushed, and her body felt weak all over again…
Thankfully, Qin Jian was too focused on his meal to notice her reaction.
Though the food was slightly cold, it didn't detract from its flavor. The dining hall at Skywater Academy rivaled even the Seven Treasures Glazed Tile Sect in quality.
"Captain…"
Shui Bing'er suddenly thought of something. "Don't you need to cultivate? I haven't seen you practicing your Soul Power at all these past two days."
"I've been cultivating all along."
Qin Jian turned and smiled. "See? I'm already at Rank 24 now."
"Rank 24?!"
Shui Bing'er's eyes widened in disbelief. "It's only been a short while, and you've advanced another level?!"
"Wait!"
She suddenly stood up. "The day you arrived, you were only at Rank 22!"
This detail hadn't even crossed Yan Zhining's mind…
"That's my unique talent. My progression isn't like others'," Qin Jian said with a smile. "Typically, the first five levels within a realm come easily for me. The further I advance, the harder it gets. And to break through a major realm… well, that's an ordeal of immense pain."
Shui Bing'er blinked, dazed.
Qin Jian had no intention of explaining further. Revealing too much would jeopardize his Divine Seat trials and could even collapse his Soul Power entirely.
"Alright, just think of me as particularly gifted. With some luck, I can advance very quickly," Qin Jian said with a grin.
Shui Bing'er could only nod blankly.
How could she have known that each level Qin Jian gained as a Great Soul Master relied entirely on her affection for him?
The next day.
When Qin Jian and the seven members of the Skywater battle team arrived at their dedicated simulation training area, they found Yan Zhining already waiting for them.
"Today's team training will be led by our new captain," she announced, leading the group into the training ground.
Unbeknownst to them, Xiao Jing and a group of academy elders had once again activated the observation array.
"I want to see what Qin Jian can accomplish with the Skywater team…"
Xiao Jing's gaze was frosty as she watched the scene unfold.
The setting was still an icy wonderland.
"Qin Jian, what's the training plan for today? Will it be pair sparring to improve combat skills or team drills to enhance coordination? If it's the latter, I'll need to adjust the simulation training area," Yan Zhining asked.
Qin Jian and Shui Bing'er exchanged a glance before stepping forward with a smile. "Today's training focus is…"
Everyone's eyes were fixed on him with curiosity.
"Hmm… Learning to dance," Qin Jian said nonchalantly.
Whoosh…
A cold breeze swept through the area, leaving everyone shivering.
"Qin Jian, you're joking, right?"
Yan Zhining was speechless. "Dancing counts as training now?"
The others nodded in agreement.
But Qin Jian nodded earnestly. "Instructor Yan, my first team training directive is indeed to learn a group dance."
Yan Zhining scrutinized him for a moment before rubbing her temples. "Fine. Since I appointed you as captain, it's your call… At least the academy leadership isn't watching today. Otherwise, I'd be under pressure again…"
"Thank you, Instructor Yan," Qin Jian said sincerely.
He knew how difficult it was for her to grant him such freedom but didn't expect her to trust him this much.
What they didn't realize was that the academy leadership was watching—and the elders were already in an uproar.
"Everyone, look at this! What kind of captain is this Qin Jian supposed to be?"
Xiao Jing fanned the flames eagerly. "How can he waste time making the team learn to dance? Isn't this absurd?"
Many of the observing elders nodded in agreement.
However, an elderly teacher with white hair silenced them with a single remark: "Let's watch further before jumping to conclusions. Don't be too quick to judge…"
