Chapitre 4: RBTC: Chapter 4
Watching Shanks from afar, Buggy didn't bother trying to figure out why he was crying so hard or what he and the captain had talked about. But he had a vague idea. It was probably Roger giving Shanks some advice and instructions for the future.
Buggy wasn't uncurious, but he didn't think it was necessary. He had to forge his own path. Knowing something wouldn't help, it would only add to his worries.
He looked away from Shanks and focused his gaze on Rayleigh, who was sitting on the bow of the ship, drinking.
As his eyes met Rayleigh's, Rayleigh also looked at Buggy.
"Little Buggy, what are you staring at? Shouldn't you be clinging to the captain like Shanks and crying your eyes out? Don't even think about getting your hands on me." Rayleigh smiled mischievously at Buggy.
"Rayleigh-san, I wouldn't cry like Shanks. I'm a grown-up. I can't act like a child." Buggy quickly retorted.
"Alright, alright. Our little Buggy is all grown up. So, why are you looking at me?" Rayleigh's eyes were filled with curiosity.
Buggy walked over to Rayleigh and said solemnly, "Rayleigh-san, I want you to train me for a year."
"What? Buggy, did I hear that right? You always slacked off when I trained you. Now you're asking me to train you?" Rayleigh was surprised. He couldn't believe Buggy would say such a thing.
"Please, Rayleigh-san," Buggy pleaded, looking at Rayleigh with sincere eyes.
Seeing Buggy's sincere gaze, Rayleigh was convinced of his determination.
"Why? Tell me your reasons. If they satisfy me, I'll train you diligently for the next year."
Rayleigh wanted to know why Buggy had made this decision. Knowing him, he wouldn't have said such a thing unless there was a reason. He wanted to hear it.
"Rayleigh-san, I'm too weak. I want to become strong. I want to see the seas for myself. I want to go to Laugh Tale. But I'm too weak right now. If I go out to sea, I might not even be able to beat some of the stronger rookie pirates. I need your training."
Buggy spoke his truest thoughts. There was nothing to hide. He believed this reason would move Rayleigh. After all, what parent wouldn't want their child to strive for greatness? Hearing such a reason, what parent could ignore it?
Hearing this, Rayleigh was taken aback. He didn't expect Buggy, who usually only cared about treasure, to be so determined. This shook the calm heart of the Pirate King's right hand, the Dark King Rayleigh.
Rayleigh stood up, looked at Buggy, and said solemnly, "Are you really determined? My training is very tough. You might even lose your life. Are you sure?"
Hearing this, Buggy smiled. He had already made up his mind. He said solemnly, "Rayleigh-san, I'm sure. Even if I die, I want to become strong."
"Good, good boy. Then, after we disembark, I'll train you for the next year. I hope you can persevere. I hope you're not just talking."
Buggy didn't say anything else. He simply nodded solemnly. There was no need for more words. Rayleigh would see for himself in the coming days.
The matter was settled. Buggy returned to his original spot, and Rayleigh walked towards Roger.
He needed to tell Roger about this. He wanted to hear what he thought.
Rayleigh walked up to Roger and told him about Buggy's request.
After listening, Roger smiled and said, "Haha, good, good, good. Train him hard! This kid is always lazy. At his age, he's only this strong. When I was his age, I was already preparing to set sail on my own. It's good that he finally has a sense of urgency. It's not too late. His determination is good. As long as he has that determination, he'll persevere. He'll definitely make his mark on the seas. I really want to see that day, but unfortunately..."
Roger's face fell slightly. He didn't say anything more. His eyes drifted towards Buggy, who wasn't far away.
Buggy saw the captain looking at him, because he had been watching that direction all along.
Looking at the captain's gaze, Buggy felt a lot of things: approval, encouragement, anticipation, and relief. All these emotions were contained in the captain's eyes.
Roger didn't say anything to Buggy. He simply nodded solemnly.
Seeing the captain's gesture, Buggy understood what he meant. He nodded back. They didn't say a word, but they understood each other.
Shanks was lost in thought. He looked at Roger, as if he had thought of something. His eyes were filled with anticipation.
Roger withdrew his gaze and felt a burning gaze upon him.
He looked at Shanks. Seeing his expression, Roger said, "Shanks, do you have something to say to me? If you do, just say it."
"Captain, it's like this. I feel like I'm not strong enough either. I hope I can learn from you during this time. I want to become a strong man on the seas too." Shanks' face flushed slightly as he spoke.
"Haha, little guy, I'm afraid I have to disappoint you. I have important things to do. I can't take you with me."
As Roger spoke, a hint of helplessness flashed in his eyes. He wasn't unwilling to teach Shanks. He even wanted to teach Buggy too. But he didn't have enough time. If he did, he wouldn't hesitate. What parent doesn't want to witness their child's growth? But he couldn't do it now. Taking Shanks with him might actually put him in danger during what he had to do next.
Hearing this, Shanks' eyes filled with disappointment.
Rayleigh saw Shanks' expression. He knew Roger's helplessness. He knew what Roger had to do next. He also saw Roger's reluctance to leave Shanks behind.
"Shanks, you have to understand the captain. He has his own things to deal with. We can't hold him back," Rayleigh said, breaking the tense atmosphere. Roger looked at Rayleigh with gratitude.
"I understand, captain, Rayleigh-san." Shanks knew that the captain must have important things to do and couldn't spare the time. But his voice was still filled with disappointment.
