Chapitre 64: Wonders of the World

In this post, Bai Yi discovered many things, including the characteristics of the three federations. For example, the Dawn Federation is primarily composed of warriors and assassins, since both legends from this federation are warriors.

The Star Federation, on the other hand, is mostly made up of alchemists and mages, because its legends are an alchemist and a mage.

Finally, the Sun Federation is dominated by divine magicians, as it has only one legend, but this legend is a divine magician with an incredibly long lifespan.

Players are not allowed to choose their federation, but they are given five city options, each offering 10,000 spots. Based on Bai Yi's analysis, there's a high chance that the events and storylines of Version 1.0 will take place in these cities.

Bai Yi wrote down the names of the five cities: [Dongwu City], [Beiyuan City], [Chaoyang City], [Youlong City], and [Biyi City].

Among these important cities, two are border cities, while the other three, if brought to life, would be major cities on the level of Shanghai and Guangzhou.

Youlong City, located near Dongwu City, seems especially worth paying attention to.

Bai Yi watched the promotional videos for the other two city-states, and they were no different from his previous life. The only change was the cover of the Sun City-State.

What intrigued him about this city-state was the profession of the divine magician.

A divine magician, as the name suggests, is someone who relies on a god, but in this game, that's not entirely the case.

Theocrats are typically believers who pray to God, receiving specific powers in return—these powers are called divine arts.

This concept of divine magic traces back to Xia continent 1,500 years ago.

Even after the gods disappeared, the profession of divine magician almost vanished too. However, one peculiar theurgist came into the picture. While he was a theurgist, he didn't hold strong faith in his god.

After the god vanished, he feared losing his powers, so he rushed into the temple, knelt, and prayed. But even though the god was gone, his powers continued to fade.

In a desperate attempt, he tried to use his remaining divine power to destroy the god's statue, which, unbeknownst to him, was connected to the stored faith of countless followers. That faith had the same origin as his divine power.

When his attack triggered the latent power of the faith, all his lost divine powers returned—and were even stronger than before.

This discovery revived the divine magician profession, causing it to evolve.

From then on, all divine magicians became shallow believers. They only needed a little faith in the god to influence the beliefs of the non-professionals around them.

This faith would be condensed into power. Without the gods, however, this power no longer manifested as a specific divine art.

Theocrats could now achieve more with faith.

For example, a frail body could become strong through the baptism of faith, with the stored faith transforming into a force similar to magic.

As a result, various job classes for divine magicians emerged: divine warrior, holy knight, golden armor warrior, divine elementalist, and many others.

These class advancements supported the Sun Federation, turning it into a land rich in faith.

While pondering this, Bai Yi began exploring the forum. Some players' speculations were surprisingly insightful. He also studied the panel closely. Since the forum and countdown appeared there, he wondered if there were more functions hidden within the panel.

During the days that Bai Yi spent studying, the auction buzzed throughout the federation.

The two-day auction was grand and had far-reaching impacts across Dawn. The total transactions amounted to an astounding 120 million gold coins, leaving people stunned.

The auction truly marked the dawn of a new era, showcasing technologies that were unavailable in the Star Federation.

The second half of the auction was the most exciting.

A dwarf took the stage with items that were not just rare, but outrageously powerful.

For example, a critical potion that could triple all attributes for one hour. The catch? A bizarre side effect where your head would flash uncontrollably, and you'd be unable to use any secret potions for the duration. Despite the side effects, the potion could be considered a miracle drug, even effective for gold-level players. Most would be willing to endure the side effects if it meant gaining immense power.

There were many such items—extraordinarily powerful, yet with strange and unsettling side effects.

One of the most expensive items was a suit of armor, sold for a staggering eight million gold coins. This armor provided absolute defense, impervious to even legendary power. However, the side effect was the sacrifice of part of one's body.

While it was an incredibly valuable item, the fact that it had been forged by a legend made it all the more significant. Many who purchased it were just happy to survive with their bodies intact.

The rest of the items followed a similar pattern: powerful effects paired with bizarre side effects.

Despite the oddities, the auction garnered a total of over 30 million gold coins.

At this auction, two individuals rose to fame: Bai Yi, the alchemical genius, an 18-year-old mid-silver alchemist, and a dwarf renowned for his eccentric and unpredictable methods.

Two days after the auction ended, a wave of discussion swept through the federation.

Because of Sunu's strong foundation, the alchemical magic network in the capital had been established, and the Coman family began extending the network outward from the central city-state.

Sunu's increasing skill allowed him to construct the alchemical magic network faster than expected. Within five days, half of the city would be covered, and the entire federation could be linked in just half a month.

Meanwhile, steam locomotive railways were being rapidly laid down. Fatty Luo, located in the southeastern part of the Dawn Federation, had over 300,000 workers building the railways. They had already begun connecting various cities.

At this rate, the entire federation would be connected within ten years. But Fatty Luo, in a hurry, had spent most of his cash flow to accelerate the process. The southeastern region was expected to be completed in just one month.

The Difeng family was also spending aggressively, purchasing all kinds of materials. Although they didn't have a gold-level alchemist, they had construction blueprints, silver-level alchemists, and an abundance of resources. They were still able to independently build alchemical intercontinental missile guns.

The cost was high, but it didn't matter. These weapons were strategic, and every city would want to buy one.

The federation, once stable, was now alive with change, as a thriving reform took hold.

At this time, White Plague had arrived near the players' starting point. Coincidentally, this was the new area built after the Scarlet Sacrifice Battlefield.

Perhaps because the buildings were more densely packed, many houses were still vacant. The players' starting point was located in a corner of one such block.

As for why Bai Yi could still access the forum, he attributed it to the aftermath of time travel and the reason why the player's panel had not been fully disconnected. There was no other explanation.

"Hey, my friend, why did you ask me to meet here?"

Looking back at Sabo, Bai Yi asked thoughtfully, "What do you think of this area?"

"It's just been built, and no one's living here yet. What's wrong?" Sabo asked, confused.

"If I want to take this area, do you think I should buy it or apply for it?" Bai Yi inquired.

"Apply for it now. With your status, why waste the money?" Sabo tapped his ankle with one hand, then asked with a sly grin, "My friend, something big is going to happen, right? Can you take me along?"

Bai Yi glanced at the countdown: [Countdown to the internal test: 6 days, 13 hours, and 56 minutes].

He smiled. "Have you heard of the wonders of the world?"
