Kai watched as even more students left. Hundreds of people had systematically reduced themselves to just 75 or so students. And even then, many of them were visibly fearful for their future.

Kai couldn't understand why they'd go through the trouble of applying for such an academy just to leave. Etyrion's warning was very ominous, but still.

Looking at Amyla, he guessed most of them were weak like her. Maybe they had been forced to join the academy, either by peer pressure or by their parents. Fearful of their disapproval, they came to the academy. And then this new fear overpowered them.

Laughter brought Kai's attention to a group of 4 students, 3 guys, and a girl. The girl was laughing at one of the guys. He held his head down in shame, but he walked away and left all the same. The girl continued laughing and nudged one of the guys. He offered a smirk in return, while the last guy glared at them both.
