With Karura's help, Hattori managed to finish assembling all 250 explosive puppets before dawn and sealed them back into the scroll.
Watching his actions, Karura rested her chin on her hand with a smile, her eyes reflecting a hint of admiration.
"Making a scroll like that isn't easy. Lady Chiyo really treats you well!"
"Yeah!"
As soon as Karura's words landed, Hattori, who was wrapping the scroll, nodded immediately. "My teacher has been really good to me, so I have to go help her!"
"Help Lady Chiyo?"
Hearing this, Karura's eyes widened with surprise. "What do you mean by that?"
"Just what it sounds like."
Hattori spoke as he slung the scroll onto his back and stood up.
"Sis, you don't have to hide it from me. I know that my teacher and the others have already headed to the battlefield, so I need to get there as soon as possible. Take care of yourself."
With that, he turned and walked toward the exit.
As he reached the doorway, Karura's voice called out behind him.
"Hattori, didn't you promise to protect me?"
Hearing her, Hattori, who already had his hand on the doorknob, paused and gave her a grin.
"Sis, this is me keeping my promise!"
Before Karura could say another word, Hattori twisted the doorknob, opened the door, and leapt outside, disappearing in an instant.
"Hattori!"
Karura shouted and rushed to the door, but Hattori was already out of sight.
She thought about chasing after him but, glancing at her rounded belly, she reluctantly stopped and, with all her strength, shouted,
"Hattori, come back safe!"
After shouting, she stood at the doorway for a long while, only returning inside when the sound of Temari's cries echoed from within.
Once the door was shut, Hattori emerged from the shadow on the rooftop, whispering softly to himself,
"I will."
Then, with a burst of movement, he used the Body Flicker Technique and disappeared once more.
...
Surrounded by sheer cliffs, there was only one way to enter or leave Sunagakure: the passage known as "One Line Sky."
Taking an unconventional route was too risky, so Hattori had no choice but to exit through this passage.
However, as soon as he arrived at the entrance, the Sunagakure ANBU stationed there stopped him.
"Lord Hattori, Lady Chiyo has ordered that you are not to leave Sunagakure. Please return."
"Huh?"
Hattori frowned slightly at their words but then relaxed.
"I understand, but my teacher left me a code. If I tell you, I can leave the village. Come closer so I can share it."
"A code?"
The ANBU, though skeptical, leaned in to listen.
Seeing this, Hattori grabbed him by the neck and whispered, "Sorry, but I must do this!"
"Ugh…"
Before the ANBU could react, he realized he'd lost control over his body. He couldn't even open his mouth to alert his comrades nearby.
Hattori grinned at him.
"Here's your code. Can I leave now?"
The controlled ANBU wanted to refuse, but his body disobeyed and nodded forcefully, making an audible cracking sound.
Seeing this, the other ANBU looked astonished. Was there really such a code?
Hattori chuckled gleefully.
"Haha, I knew it would work. Now, please escort me out."
The controlled ANBU nodded again and led Hattori through the passage.
The other ANBU, though puzzled, allowed them through.
Hearing the footsteps behind him, the controlled ANBU's face was filled with helplessness, but he had no choice but to guide Hattori out.
Outside the passage, there was minimal defense and only an endless sea of sand.
Once out, Hattori smiled again.
"Haha, you can stop here. I'm heading to support my teacher. Protect the village!"
As soon as he spoke, the controlled ANBU regained movement.
"Lord Hattori!"
He shouted, turning around, but Hattori had already vanished.
His face darkened.
"This is a problem!"
According to village rules, leaving without permission could be considered desertion, punishable by death at the hands of the ANBU.
But Hattori wasn't just anyone; he was going to support Sunagakure's forces. Was he a deserter then?
Moreover, Hattori was Chiyo's student and highly respected in the village. Who would dare treat him as a traitor?
But if something happened to him on the battlefield, the ANBU who let him through would bear the consequences and public backlash.
Thinking this, the ANBU at the entrance smiled bitterly.
"Lord Hattori, you've really put me in a tough spot. Come back safely!"
Hattori, now out of earshot, sped away from the passage with the utmost urgency toward the northern battlefield.
Unlike Chiyo's diversion, he intended to attack Iwagakure for real.
"Time for them to pay for their last ambush. And maybe pin it on Konoha, so they clash first."
Before, Hattori had a fondness for Konoha, home to Naruto, the hero of his favorite anime.
But after spending time in Sunagakure, making connections, and being accepted as one of their leaders, especially with people like Chiyo and Karura who truly cared for him, he felt a sense of belonging.
In this situation, between Konoha and Sunagakure, his choice was clear.
"Regrettable, but sometimes you must make hard choices, even if they're wrong. Besides…"
He muttered, recalling what he once thought was the most dramatic line.
"It's not me who's wrong—it's this world."
