Chapitre 12: Chapter 14: Heimerdinger
The door was pushed open by Ekko, revealing a scene that Lin Feng had never imagined.
Here, there was actually sunlight!
A ray of sunlight descended from the sky, shining into this place in Zaun that was perpetually deprived of sunlight.
It was a circular area, and in the center was something Lin Feng had never seen in Zaun before.
A tree.
A towering tree.
Even in modern times, Lin Feng had never seen a tree so thick and so lush.
It had been transformed, with many houses and staircases embedded in it, but the tree itself had not lost its vitality.
Around the tree, there were also many simple yet warmly colored buildings, and quite a few children were happily playing.
There was even a huge graffiti wall painted with images of Jinx, Vi, Vander...
Everything here appeared so beautiful and vibrant; unlike the vitality of the upper city, the energy here was filled with a sense of hope, like buds pushing through stones and breaking ground.
Even Caitlyn paused to admire it for a while; after not seeing such a scene for a long time, she found herself somewhat nostalgic for the old days.
"Follow me."
Ekko turned slightly to the side, speaking to the two of them.
Lin Feng and Caitlyn followed, and under Ekko's guidance, they climbed the tree to the top and entered the largest treehouse.
"Ekko, you're back... Oh, look who it is, our Caitlyn!"
As the door swung open, a voice with a strange accent reached Lin Feng's ears.
Lin Feng looked around but saw no one until he lowered his gaze and spotted the speaker.
His face was covered in white fluff, and a mustache added a touch of cuteness; his long ears resembled those of an elf, while his yellow hair and short stature confirmed his identity.
The great inventor, Heimerdinger.
Lin Feng had always thought Yordles would be taller than he imagined, but it turned out he was mistaken.
Heimerdinger's height was no more than that of a computer case.
Heimerdinger was no longer dressed in the attire of a council member but wore simple casual clothes. Behind him was a rather fluffy and cute little Poro that seemed to have aged as well.
Lin Feng gulped, suppressing the urge to go up and pet him.
"Professor Heimerdinger."
Caitlyn greeted him, and Heimerdinger walked over in small, quick steps, with the little Poro leaping up to nuzzle Caitlyn's thigh.
"Caitlyn, is he your friend?"
After exchanging greetings, Heimerdinger turned to Lin Feng.
Lin Feng greeted him in return, and without needing to introduce himself, Caitlyn explained.
Heimerdinger listened intently, but when Caitlyn mentioned that Lin Feng had invented a new technology for mechanical magic creation, Heimerdinger's expression shifted slightly before returning to normal.
Although it was fleeting, Lin Feng caught this detail.
"I've never heard of a scientist like you in Piltover... May I see your invention?"
After Caitlyn finished her introduction, Heimerdinger said to Lin Feng.
Lin Feng nodded and took out the Hextech gun from his bag, handing it to Heimerdinger.
The green-glowing Hextech gun immediately caught Heimerdinger's attention. Heimerdinger took the gun and stared at it for quite a while, making Lin Feng feel a bit anxious.
Could he have noticed something?
The technology Lin Feng claimed to have invented was an entirely new field that had never been explored in Piltover.
Because of this, he could easily and without flaws impress most people.
But scientists like Heimerdinger were another story; he was unique in the entire Valoran continent.
Perhaps Heimerdinger knew that energy generated mechanically could never be converted into magic.
Just like water and oil are made of molecules and atoms, but water can never turn into oil.
Lin Feng could only pray that nothing went wrong. After half a minute, Heimerdinger suddenly lifted the Hextech gun with both hands and handed it back to Lin Feng.
"You are truly a young and talented scientist; you've really done it."
Lin Feng let out a long sigh of relief internally, appearing happy on the surface as he cheerfully accepted the gun.
Receiving such praise from Heimerdinger made Ekko take a sidelong glance at Lin Feng.
Heimerdinger seated the three of them, and after a moment of silence, his expression turned somber.
"Caitlyn, the incident with the Hextech gemstones... It must have been Jinx."
Lin Feng felt a sharp pain in his heart.
Sure enough, it was Jinx.
Capture Jinx? Or should he rethink the prison break?
Caitlyn also seemed momentarily stunned; she had already suspected such an outcome, but hearing it confirmed by Heimerdinger still troubled her.
"But," Heimerdinger suddenly shifted his tone,
"I don't think this is Jinx's true intention."
Lin Feng was momentarily taken aback. Before Caitlyn could speak, he asked:
"What does this mean?"
Heimerdinger hesitated several times before organizing his words and finally said:
"Jinx wasn't like this before; she has suddenly changed, as if she has been... influenced by someone or something."
Heimerdinger suddenly lifted his head to look at Caitlyn:
"Caitlyn, can you help Jinx? Regarding the Hextech gemstones, I still have a few left over from before that might help you."
Jumping down from his chair, Heimerdinger opened a drawer and took out a box containing five sparkling Hextech gemstones.
Caitlyn looked at Heimerdinger, her expression stiffening for a moment.
Under normal circumstances, no one would believe what Heimerdinger said.
But precisely because these words came from Professor Heimerdinger, their credibility increased significantly.
Caitlyn had heard Vi say countless times that Jinx wasn't like this before.
She had also seen Jinx; there was a lost heart within her, still holding onto a sincerity and kindness like Vi's.
Caitlyn regained her composure, took the box filled with Hextech gemstones, and said earnestly:
"Professor Heimerdinger, we will do our best."
Heimerdinger smiled with satisfaction; even precious Hextech gemstones were merely a tool to him. With over three hundred years of life, Heimerdinger understood the importance of 'people' even more.
Lin Feng glanced at Heimerdinger and then at Caitlyn.

Unlike Caitlyn, Lin Feng was someone who avoided trouble, especially when embroiled in dangerous situations like this.
But no matter what, he wasn't an enforcer; decisions made by the enforcers were beyond his authority to interfere with. Given Caitlyn's character, he couldn't sway her either, so he could only nod in agreement, pretending to be enthusiastic to leave a good impression.
Caitlyn stood up,
"I want to find Jinx. Professor Heimerdinger, do you know where Jinx is now?"
Heimerdinger was silent for a moment before taking out a map from the table, which indicated Jinx's current location.
Caitlyn took the map, and just as Lin Feng and Caitlyn were preparing to leave, Heimerdinger called out to them,
"Wait a moment, Caitlyn."
The two turned around, unsure if there was something they had forgotten.
"Could I speak to him alone?"
Heimerdinger directed his gaze at Lin Feng.
