"Because of the girl just now?" Jude said, in a guttural tone, that I hadn't heard from him before. Dangerously dark, making my insides vibrate uncomfortably.

"No, what does it have to do with her? You know what I mean. I'm your teacher...." My quiet voice went into a whisper, 

"....and your stepmother. You can't just." Come over every night and mess with my mind. But I stopped when I thought of the broken-child pose he had displayed yesterday and made a beeline.

"At least not at school. You should know that putting a plaster on people shouldn't take that long and warrant one to be that close." Having spoken my mind, I felt a bit better, but I still didn't look up, opting for the ground again. Damn.
