Chapitre 28: Chapter 27: Shadows and Fractures

The room was dimly lit, a soft orange glow from the bedside lamp casting shadows across Capsule Corporation's sleek yet cozy chamber. Vegeta lay on his back, his breathing steady, his muscular frame relaxed, a rare sight. Beside him, Bulma traced gentle circles on his chest, her expression thoughtful but tinged with worry.

"Vegeta," she said softly, breaking the comfortable silence. "Do you think we'll really stop him? Cell Max, I mean."

Vegeta's brows furrowed, and he turned his head to meet her gaze. In the privacy of this room, his hardened exterior gave way to a rare vulnerability, a softness he reserved only for her. He reached up and brushed a strand of blue hair from her face, his fingers lingering on her cheek.

"I don't know," he admitted, his voice low and steady.

Bulma's eyes widened slightly. "You're… not sure?"

Vegeta sat up slowly, his expression contemplative. He rested his elbows on his knees, staring at the far wall. "I've fought a lot of monsters, Bulma. I've faced enemies who could destroy planets with a flick of their wrist. But Cell Max… he's different."

Bulma sat up as well, pulling the blanket around her. "How is he different?"

Vegeta's gaze darkened as he recounted the battle. "That fight wasn't against a seasoned enemy. Cell Max was like a newborn. His actions weren't efficient, they were impulsive, instinctual. He wasted power, made mistakes. But he corrected himself faster than anyone I've ever seen. Every time I landed a hit or forced him into a corner, he adapted."

He clenched his fists. "If he was already that strong as a mere infant… imagine what he'll become once he fully matures. It's only a matter of time before he perfects himself completely."

Bulma placed a hand on his shoulder. "Then we have to stop him before that happens. You and the others… you'll find a way. You always do."

Vegeta turned to her, his expression softening again. He reached out and cupped her face, his thumb brushing gently against her cheek. "I've survived wars, destroyed worlds, and fought gods. But this time, Bulma… I'm not sure it'll be enough. Not against something like him."

Bulma leaned into his touch, her voice firm despite the fear in her eyes. "You'll fight anyway. Because that's who you are. And I'll be here, waiting for you, no matter what."

Vegeta's lips curved into a small, almost imperceptible smile. He leaned forward, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead. "Hmph. You'd better."

The room fell silent again, but the weight of their conversation lingered as they lay back together, their thoughts heavy with the battles to come.

....

Far from Capsule Corporation, the quiet plains near Goku's home stretched out under the starlit sky. The gentle rustling of grass in the cool breeze was the only sound as Goku sat cross-legged, his eyes closed in deep meditation. The world around him faded into stillness as he focused on the flow of his ki, centering himself for the challenges ahead.

A sudden shift in the air snapped him from his trance. His eyes opened just in time to see Whis descending gracefully from the sky, his staff glowing faintly. The angel's usual serene demeanor was replaced by a rare seriousness, his expression unreadable.

Before Goku could greet him, Whis raised a hand, and Goku felt an invisible force lock his body in place. He tried to move but couldn't even lift a finger. Panic flickered through his mind until he heard Whis's voice, not aloud, but telepathically, resonating within him.

"Stay still, Goku. This technique ensures we remain undetected. Even my father, the Grand Priest, cannot sense it. I'm breaking one of our most sacred rules by coming here, and I don't intend to be caught."

Goku's thoughts raced as he replied telepathically, "Breaking the rules? Whis, what's going on?"

Whis's expression remained calm but grave. "The multiverse is on the verge of collapse. Cracks have been forming ever since Android 17's wish at the Tournament of Power. My father has kept this hidden to avoid alarming Zeno, but the situation has worsened. Soon, the child-like ruler will notice, and no one knows how he will react."

"Zeno's guards must know by now," Goku responded, his mental tone tinged with concern.

Whis nodded faintly. "Of course. But their purpose is singular, to protect Zeno from external threats. Until the cracks pose a direct danger to him, they will not act. And when they do, it may already be too late."

Goku's mind churned with questions, but one came to the forefront. "Why are you telling me this? Isn't it against everything angels stand for?"

Whis hesitated, then gave a faint, almost bittersweet smile. "Because I want to. If the multiverse crumbles, chaos will consume everything. Entire universes will fall, and the delicate balance we've maintained for eons will be gone. I may be forbidden from intervening, but I can at least warn you."

He raised his hand, and a small sphere of light formed in his palm, a concentrated orb of pure divine energy, radiating warmth and power. "This will prove useful to you in the future. Use it wisely."

Before Goku could respond, the sphere shot forward, embedding itself gently into his chest. He felt a surge of energy, unlike anything he had known, yet it didn't overwhelm him, it settled within, dormant but potent.

Whis stepped back, his form beginning to shimmer faintly as he prepared to leave. "I hope I am wrong about what's to come, Goku. But if I'm not, you will need every advantage you can get."

With that, he vanished, leaving Goku alone under the starlit sky. The Saiyan sat in silence, his hand resting on his chest where the divine energy now resided. For the first time in a long while, he felt the weight of uncertainty pressing heavily on him.

'What does this mean for all of us?' he thought, his gaze fixed on the horizon. The gentle rustling of the plains was all that remained as he pondered the warning Whis had given him, knowing that their greatest challenges were yet to come.
