Chase slowly raised his hands. Giving the act of surrender, he slowly backed away, slowly moving his legs.
"I said freeze" Came the voice from the second man. Looking intently with vicious eyes ready to shoot on instinct. Chase stopped moving, deliberating on what to do. He thought of charging at the man. 'Nah, that's death'.
'I can't let him hold me hostage, or maybe I should give him a chance to get closer so I can...'
Gunshot.
The boom from the gun cracked the air in the dungeon making the sound amplify more than its initial sound.
'Shit'. Chase screeched. Every rats and cockroaches scattered in chaos. The prisoners in the dungeon shuddered to the tremor of the sound wave.
The man on guard had shot the bullet just few inches past Chase ear causing his eardrum to burst and his ear scalded from the bullet heat.
"I said freeze, or I drop you to the ground". The man spoke with deadly intent.
Chase understanding his ill-fated situation stood still, accepting whatever comes at him. The man got closer, using one hand to hold the gun to Chase head, while using the other to pull out his cuffs. The cuffs gave him a little trouble, so he looked down in a second trying to figure it out. With the distraction, Chase moved with fluidity and knocked the gun out of the man's hand. The hyper vigilant man had predicted and was ready for an assault but didn't expect the speed at which it happened.
He pulled the trigger just in time before the gun was knocked off, which sent the bullet away into space, but the sound cracked at Chase's second eardrum, making him disoriented and losing balance for a moment. The man grabbed Chase by the neck and slammed him on the prison gate of one of the rooms. Chase hissed at the hot pain, as blood tang filled him mouth, he had coughed blood, as his lungs carved in due to the imploding pressure. He struggled as he was been strangled.
Chase was frantically holding the man's hand, trying to relieve himself of the grip but each struggles proved abortive, as he began to lose oxygen from his lungs. His eyes were bulging out as his veins were dilating, the grip was held on tight and suffocating him. Slowly, Chase began to feel life sipping out of him, his vision was becoming blurred and his lungs burn like hell.
'Bam!'.
Orion was seen dropping the baton in his hand as he rushed to Chase. He had loosened himself during the commotion and grabbed one of the men's baton. He sneaked behind the man as he was busy deriving pleasure from strangling his hostage.
The man fell like a log of wood. Orion had slammed the baton at the base of his skull fracturing his atlas and dealing a blow to his cerebellum. On the optimistic side, the man might lose balance and orientation for a couple of hours to days. From the pessimist angle, he could be dead. But no one cared at the moment as Chase tried to get a grip of himself while Orion eased him up to get going. The prisoners watched in awe as the two men paced out of the dungeon.
Chase suddenly stopped, went back to the men and took a key. He unlocked every gate to each room and told them to run. The prisoners who were elated to have found their escape rushed to the dungeon door and slammed it open.
The police men at the other end of the door waiting for Chase and Orion to open the door and fall into their hands were stunned with the stampede of prisoners rushing at them. Caught unaware, the police men fled the area as the prisoners filled every corner of the premises with commotion. Chase and Orion made their way amidst the commotion to the back gate, evading the eyes of the police men trying to cajole some of the hostages back to the dungeon. Four police men with assault rifles were already mounted at the back gate to ensure no one leaves.
"Look, four men are at the gate". Orion informed Chase.
"Yeah, I was going to cause a distraction, stay here" Chase commanded.
He moved a few steps forward, picked a stone and threw it towards one of the police men. Infuriated, the police man charged into the crowd with his rifle cocked, looking for who threw the stone. One of his colleagues followed to monitor the situation. Left with two police men at the gate, Chase moved closer to the gate, and pushed the 5 prisoners directly in from of him towards the two police men at the gate. The prisoners stumbled on each other, which caused a commotion. Looking for who pushed, the prisoners turned against each other and started fighting.
This caused more prisoners rushing to that spot, like an ocean tide effect, moving closer and closer to the gate. The two police men resisted and charged at the prisoners to back off, but it wasn't yielding as more prisoners moved in. One of the police men tried to cock his gun when the prisoners rushed him, amidst the stampede, Chase and Orion already had the chance to go over the fence which Chase came in.
Chase pushed Orion over the fence, "Go, Martha would be waiting for you, I'll meet you there". Orion had jumped down to the other side expecting Chase to follow.
Chase had leaped on the fence about to move his lower body over the wall when a gunshot followed, which hit the wall he was climbing.
"Freeze! Chase".
"Don't move an inch or I'll shoot".
The voice sounded very familiar, Chase looked back and saw his colleague, Detective Nolwazi pointing a pistol at him. More policemen joined Nolwazi pointing their guns at Chase.
Chase smiled at his colleague, Nolwazi knowing his ex colleague was about to do something foolish "Chase, don't even think of.."
And Chase was airborne, following it was cracks and boom of gunshots towards his direction. Orion who was waiting for Chase had saw him airborne, and in a moment he saw Chase fall back into the police premises. Orion screamed as he made his way towards Martha's car waiting for him where it was said to be.
"Where is Chase?" Martha asked pacing out of the car.
"He has been shot, he has been shot" Orion screamed as he approached Martha while running as fast as his legs could carry.
"Let's go now!"
Martha rushed into the car and ignited the engine as Orion jumped in, slamming the door hard. Gunshot sounded like fire crackers as Martha took a swerve in the driveway. Bullets hitting the side glasses and the body of their car. Martha zoomed off into the distance.
