The night had settled in, covering the estate in a darkness. Raelynn sat at the dining table, her plate barely touched. Sitting across from her was Sloane, still as sharp-tongued as ever, and Elion, who looked as unbothered as always while slicing into his steak with perfect precision.
Raelynn's earlier hope that Elion had been joking about Sloane living with them had quickly faded. Here she was, at dinner, sharing the table not only with Elion but also with his smug new "roommate." She poked at her food, not really hungry, though the smell of roasted veggies and rich sauces made her stomach twist.
"So," Sloane said suddenly, her voice sharp as she wiped her mouth with a napkin and set it down carefully before turning her gaze to Elion. "Have you brought her to see a doctor yet?"
Elion didn't look up from his meal. "Of course," he said calmly. "I took her to see Zake."
