Chapitre 17: Challenges and Progress
Days passed like a silent routine for Sasuke. With each dawn, he repeated the cycle of learning and practice, absorbing lessons from the academy while stealthily expanding his own abilities. While his classmates were still adapting to the basics of ninjutsu, Sasuke was several steps ahead, evolving at an accelerated pace. His focus was on mastering chakra control, genjutsu, and techniques that required precision and patience.
In the classroom, Sasuke challenged himself in ways his peers couldn't even perceive. While Iruka's lectures continued about basic ninjutsu and ninja tools, Sasuke subtly practiced chakra control, keeping leaves fixed on various parts of his body without anyone noticing. However, he was also developing something more daring: the attempt to attach a genjutsu to inanimate objects. He tested the genjutsu on small items like pencils and erasers, hoping that when his classmates touched them, they would briefly see an illusion. The trick was imperceptible to others but increasingly effective for Sasuke.
"It's still simple," he thought as he observed the results of his discreet genjutsu. "But if I can integrate this into something larger, I'll be able to fool even the most experienced ninjas."
After each class, the path to the training field was a constant in his routine. He had already mastered the technique of tree climbing using chakra control, something that initially seemed impossible for his classmates. With that in mind, Sasuke decided it was time to face a new challenge: walking on water.
Arriving at the training field, he approached a small lake. The calm surface of the water reflected the sky, but for Sasuke, it was just another obstacle to conquer. The water-walking technique required even greater chakra control than tree climbing. He would need to maintain a constant flow of chakra to his feet, adjusting for the pressure of the water so as not to sink.
Taking a deep breath, he channeled chakra to his feet and advanced slowly toward the lake's edge. Confidently, Sasuke took the first step, feeling the energy flow through his body to his feet. At first, everything seemed to be going well. He managed to take a few steps, the surface of the water rippling softly beneath his feet.
But then, something went wrong. His chakra control wasn't stable enough, and in an instant, he felt his feet sinking into the water. Sasuke's body was quickly swallowed by the lake, leaving him emerging wet and frustrated. It wasn't the failure that irritated him, but the realization that he still needed more practice. He knew that walking on water required perfect control, and his execution was still far from that.
"I need to adjust the chakra flow… not enough to sink, but also not so much that I get pushed back," he reflected as he climbed out of the lake, soaked. The training wasn't over for him yet.
Despite the frustration of temporary failure, Sasuke didn't let it affect him for long. His kenjutsu training continued with the same rigor. Every strike with his sword was a calculated movement, each training session, a tireless repetition. He knew that mastering the blade was essential, but his focus went beyond that: he wanted to incorporate ninjutsu techniques into his combat style.
The [Ho Shunshin no Jutsu] was one such technique. It allowed Sasuke to move rapidly from one point to another, enveloped in flames, disappearing and reappearing as if his body were dissolving into fire. He had already mastered the hand seals necessary to activate the technique, but he wanted to go further. The goal was to eliminate the need for hand seals, activating the jutsu through pure chakra control.
At the training field, he prepared for another attempt. His eyes closed for a moment as he concentrated his chakra. He visualized the energy flowing through his body, channeling it in a way that would simulate the effect of the jutsu without the seals. The theory was clear in his mind, but the practice was still uncertain.
"If I can master this… I'll move so fast that no enemy will be able to react in time," he thought.
However, the initial attempts were less promising. Every time he tried to use the technique without seals, the fire formed, but his speed was insufficient. He still needed the seals to achieve the precision and speed required. Sasuke wasn't discouraged, knowing that progress came with repeated practice.
"I'll get there eventually," he murmured, turning his attention to the next challenge.
On top of everything, Sasuke was attempting something even more daring: combining [Bunshin no Jutsu] with [Maboroshi no Jutsu]. The goal was to create illusory clones so real that his opponents couldn't distinguish them from physical clones. Using illusions to disorient enemies and attack stealthily was a strategy he knew would be crucial in future battles.
Each attempt brought him a little closer to his goal. Although progress was slow, Sasuke had no doubt that he would succeed one day. He looked up to legends like Shisui Uchiha, a genjutsu master, and knew that with effort, he could achieve skills as impressive as his predecessor's.
The days continued to pass, and Sasuke grew stronger with each one. Although he still couldn't walk on water perfectly, and his [Ho Shunshin no Jutsu] still required hand seals, he knew that the path to true mastery was long. And he was willing to walk every step, no matter how challenging it might be.
