Chapitre 33: There's Something Off About My Pokémon. [33]

From the time Vulpix hatched until now, exactly two months had passed. Today, under Lu Cheng's meticulous care and training, Vulpix's six tails had fully matured, radiating a beautiful fiery red hue. Although Treecko had only joined for half a month, it had been raised from a young age by a blind elder, and its strength was by no means inferior. Lu Cheng was quite curious about which of the two would emerge victorious.

While pondering this, he opened his system interface and reviewed his attribute points:

Host: Lu Cheng

HP: 3

Physical Attack: 1

Defense: 3

Special Attack: 6Special Defense: 0

Speed: 2

Unallocated Potential Points: 17

Cash: 3080 Yuan

Items: 4 Poké Balls, 1 Commemorative Ball, Charcoal (Please check the Berry Bag for berry-related items)"

The extra potential points were all from the achievement list, tasks such as obtaining a TM or defeating any ten Pokémon. These odds and ends accumulated over time to a rather considerable amount. Lu Cheng allocated his points to bring both Speed and HP up to 10 points. When he attempted to raise them further, the system prompted:

Ding—Raising attributes beyond 10 points requires 3 potential points for each additional point!

Lu Cheng clicked his tongue. The demand for potential points had suddenly tripled! This also meant that raising his stats would become increasingly difficult, and potential points would grow less valuable. But it made sense; it was designed to prevent Lu Cheng from overly relying on the system and neglecting the nurturing of his Pokémon. With no other choice, Lu Cheng allocated the remaining potential points to Physical Attack. In any case, his plan was to raise all attributes to 10 points first. By then, having a full set of 10-point stats would be one of his key advantages in securing the championship!

Returning to the battle between Vulpix and Treecko, Lu Cheng chose not to give commands, allowing the two Pokémon to fight on their own. He had witnessed Vulpix's battle talent firsthand when it used Extrasensory to evade his senior's Mawile's playful attacks. That impressive maneuver was all thanks to Vulpix's own actions. Moreover, Vulpix had stronger mental strength than most Pokémon, and with the Charcoal's bonus to its Fire-type moves, it had a significant advantage over Treecko.

However, Treecko was incredibly fast, and its Swift Slash was tricky. Even if it didn't engage in a direct confrontation with Vulpix, it could still execute hit-and-run tactics to wear it down. Without realizing it, Lu Cheng had already come to possess two such outstanding Pokémon.

On the battlefield, Vulpix launched the first attack. A skillful Ember, boosted by the Charcoal around its neck, became even hotter, almost transforming into a full-blown fireball.

But Treecko hadn't slacked off in its training these past few days either. It used Agility, becoming incredibly swift, easily dodging the Ember, making it impossible for Vulpix to discern its attack direction.

"Cha!" From an unexpected angle, Treecko suddenly appeared, and with a forceful Slash, it aimed directly at Vulpix.

"Woo…" Although Vulpix couldn't dodge in time, a green energy suddenly gathered around it, forming a thin barrier around its body. It was none other than its newly learned move, Protect!

Lu Cheng was pleasantly surprised. He hadn't expected Vulpix to grasp the key to Protect so quickly. From mastering Extrasensory, to learning Return, and now Protect, this little one's ability to grasp new moves was as efficient as ever.

Treecko, having missed its strike, cautiously backed away. Its Unburden ability gave it a significant advantage in speed, and its top priority was to ensure that Vulpix's flames couldn't hit it. However, Treecko was only about three meters away from Vulpix when the little fox showed a sly smile, and its eyes suddenly turned purple.

Extrasensory!

It had deliberately left an opening just to lure Treecko into getting close. While it couldn't match Treecko's speed, with its new move, Treecko's quickness no longer posed a threat. The moment Treecko's movements slowed, Vulpix seized the opportunity. It opened its mouth, gathering a ball of light within, then fired the beam directly at Treecko, hitting it squarely. Treecko was left dazed, stumbling and even struggling to maintain its balance.

"That's Confuse Ray!" A-Le had somehow joined Lu Cheng's side to watch the battle and exclaimed in awe, "Confuse Ray can cause confusion in Pokémon, and it's even more disorienting than Supersonic!"

This was the second time the little one had brought Lu Cheng a delightful surprise!

Lu Cheng nodded while scanning Vulpix with the system. Sure enough, both Confuse Ray and Protect had been added to its move list. Suddenly, Lu Cheng recalled how Vulpix had always liked sneaking into his backpack and playing with his flashlight. It must have been during that time that Vulpix figured out how to learn new moves.

The tide of the battle shifted dramatically. Treecko's speed advantage had been completely overturned. Despite using a branch to support itself, Treecko's body kept trembling, and it even hit a metal post with a slam, causing it a sharp pain. No, if this keeps up, I'm going to lose!

Suddenly, a powerful fighting spirit erupted in Treecko's eyes. The confusion cleared, and it used Quick Attack! Utilizing its agility, Treecko leapt behind Vulpix, dodging the strange light ball and crashing into Vulpix with full force.

"Woo!" Vulpix didn't expect Treecko to recover so quickly. When it turned around, it saw that a peculiar green energy had gathered around Treecko's branch. Absorb! Treecko swung its arm, pointing the branch at Vulpix, and streams of energy flew from Vulpix's body to the branch, causing Vulpix to cry out in pain.

In a moment of desperation, Treecko had used a Grass-type move it had never revealed before: Absorb! The move siphoned the target's energy for the user's benefit. However, the effect was minimal against the Fire-type Vulpix, causing Treecko to frown as the energy on its branch surged once more. This time, Treecko used Mega Drain!

In response, Vulpix unleashed a scorching Ember. The two energy forces collided, pushing both Pokémon back by at least a meter.

"So strong!"

A-Le stared wide-eyed at the two Pokémon, then looked at the Wingull on his shoulder and suddenly said, "Baozi, we can definitely do it too!" Baozi, being diligent by nature, flapped its wings enthusiastically and cried, "Oh-leh!"

"Alright, that's enough for now," Lu Cheng intervened, stopping the two Pokémon. Although the battle had yet to reach a decisive conclusion, continuing would undoubtedly lead to both sides getting seriously hurt, which would be more harmful than beneficial.

Upon hearing their trainer's words, both Pokémon let out a regretful cry and dejectedly walked toward Lu Cheng.

"Come on, cheer up," Lu Cheng said with a smile. "You both did great! We'll go home and have my dad make you something extra for dinner!"

They did more than great! Lu Cheng's heart was practically bursting with joy. The more moves a Pokémon mastered, the more tactical options it opened up. Vulpix's Protect and Confuse Ray could form the basis of a defensive counterattack strategy, while Treecko, who excelled at close combat, had now learned the ranged move Mega Drain, and could even evolve it into Giga Drain. How could Lu Cheng not be thrilled by this?

The two Pokémon's eyes sparkled; they still vividly remembered how good Lu Cheng's dad's cooking was.

"That's it for today, A-Le," Lu Cheng said with a wave. "Same time, same place tomorrow, don't miss it!"

After a day's training, A-Le was drenched in sweat, but his eyes gleamed with hope, a far cry from the defeated look he had that morning. He nodded vigorously, "I won't miss it!"
