Chapitre 67: Chapter 67 Temporary Research Groups

In ten minutes, Professor McGonagall returned, and, unsurprisingly, Dumbledore followed.

"Professor Dumbledore, hello!" Eisen, seeing Dumbledore with his white beard hanging down to his chest, quickly greeted him with respect.

"Professor Eisen, hello. Professor Flitwick, hello!" Dumbledore nodded, greeting each of them in turn. Then he blinked mischievously, "Alright, Professor McGonagall mentioned something urgent. Can someone explain what this is all about?"

"Uh..." They exchanged glances, and finally Eisen spoke up. "I have an idea to combine certain theories of Transfiguration with Apparition..."

As Eisen explained his theory, Dumbledore's expression grew serious.

"It's an incredible idea, I must say, but it can't be made public!" Like Professor McGonagall, Dumbledore's first concern was Hogwarts' safety.

Clearly, he feared that dark wizards or Death Eaters could infiltrate the school after learning the spell, which would be too dangerous for the students.

"Yes, Professor McGonagall said the same thing, so I won't reveal it, preventing any dark wizards from learning it." Eisen spread his hands to reaffirm his point and glanced at the others. "I assume the rest of you agree?"

"Indeed, I understand your concerns, Professor Eisen."

Dumbledore nodded approvingly but raised a question. "However, developing such a spell will be complicated and time-consuming. The professors have their own responsibilities and can't work on it during lunch breaks—"

"Oh, I get what you're saying, Professor Dumbledore. How about we work on it after dinner? Just the four of us—Professor Dumbledore, you, Professor McGonagall, Professor Flitwick, and myself—meet in the Charms classroom after dinner?" Eisen suggested.

He was the least busy among them, only teaching astronomy on Wednesday nights, whereas Dumbledore, though not teaching, had numerous other responsibilities: managing Hogwarts, overseeing the Wizengamot, and tracking Voldemort.

As for Professors McGonagall and Flitwick, their schedules were packed with teaching duties. After some consideration, Eisen proposed the after-dinner timeframe.

Eisen also limited the group to just the four of them, mindful of the potential risks if Snape got involved. Even though Eisen knew Snape was Dumbledore's spy, he feared Snape might betray the secret to Voldemort as a show of loyalty.

None of the professors objected, and so a temporary magic research group was formed. With the arrangements made, Eisen prepared to leave.

After leaving Professor McGonagall's office, Eisen didn't expect anything strange to happen. But as he passed the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom, a figure hurriedly rushed out and slammed the door shut.

The man, wearing a turquoise robe, was none other than Gilderoy Lockhart, the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. However, unlike the composed Lockhart Eisen had seen before, his hair was disheveled, and his pristine robes were torn, as if something had attacked him.

What? Are the students so wild they're beating up the professor?

"Professor Lockhart, are you—" Eisen, full of curiosity, stepped forward to greet him.

"Ahem—it's nothing! I'm just giving the students some practical lessons they need to complete on their own. No help from me!" Lockhart quickly composed himself, pointing to the classroom while talking and smoothing his wavy blonde hair.

Eisen, hearing this, immediately recalled a memory and realized what had happened inside.

Looking at Lockhart, whose demeanor screamed "If I don't feel embarrassed, then no one else can," Eisen was speechless. If not for the occasional student scream from the classroom, Eisen might have believed him.

"Everyone freeze—" A sharp voice echoed from the room, followed by silence. Eisen knew immediately that Hermione had used the Freezing Charm to handle the situation.

It was clear how incompetent Lockhart was. Eisen recalled that when Lockhart tried to deal with the mostly harmless Cornish pixies, his spell failed, and the pixies even snatched his wand.

Meanwhile, Hermione, a second-year student, had singlehandedly subdued all the pixies. The contrast between Lockhart and Hermione was astonishing.

Logically, Hermione's magical strength should be far weaker than Lockhart's, yet her performance far surpassed his. It was hard for Eisen to believe Lockhart was a graduate of Ravenclaw.

"Alright, I have other matters to attend to. Goodbye, Professor Eisen!" Lockhart quickly excused himself as the students were about to leave the classroom, hurrying off without lingering for more conversation.

...

After the last class of the afternoon, Eisen encountered the trio in the Great Hall. However, two of them, Harry and Ron, looked utterly defeated, as if they'd been drained of all energy.

"What's wrong? Did something happen?" Eisen approached them.

"Professor, you won't believe it! Professor Lockhart's Defense Against the Dark Arts class consisted of questions like what color he likes, when his birthday is, and what gift he wants most. It's madness!" Harry, clearly frustrated, shared his woes.

"He also released a cage of Cornish pixies to wreck the classroom, but then ran away!" Ron added, sneering in disdain, dealing a critical blow to Lockhart's reputation.

"But he was giving us a chance to practice!" Hermione defended Lockhart, though her voice was softer, and she sneaked a glance at Eisen.

"Come on, Hermione, he didn't know what he was doing! Didn't you see Neville dangling from the ceiling while Lockhart escaped?" Ron continued, gesturing to Harry for support, who nodded in agreement.

"Nonsense!" Hermione's voice rose. "You've read his books! Think of the incredible things he's accomplished!"

"Who knows if he even did those things?" Ron muttered, clearly unconvinced.

"Professor Eisen, you've read his books too. What do you think?" Hermione turned to Eisen, her eyes wide with expectation.

"Well, based on the accounts in the books, those events certainly happened."

Hearing this, Hermione smiled, but Eisen's next words dashed her hopes.

"However, whether or not those experiences belong to Professor Lockhart himself, I believe you'll figure that out as you continue your studies."

Harry and Ron stifled their laughter, shaking with amusement. Hermione turned away in a huff, as if she didn't want to speak to Eisen anymore.
