Chapitre 6: 6.A Date

Noah stood beside his black car,

its smooth surface reflecting the city lights that bathed New York in an almost cinematic glow.

He adjusted his collar while checking his watch, feeling the anticipation rise for the evening ahead.

It wasn't just an ordinary night—it was the date he had been looking forward to for a while.

He was about to pick up Gwen Stacy, the girl who had quickly become the center of his thoughts.

The plans were simple but promising: a quiet night at the cinema and an opportunity to get to know each other better.

His phone rang in his pocket, and he pulled it out to see a text message from her.

"I'll be ready in five minutes."

Noah smiled, but his hands were still a bit tense as he drummed his fingers on the steering wheel.

He took a quick glance at the building in front of him—Gwen's apartment.

The yellow-orange lights illuminated the front steps, and he imagined her descending the stairs, a smile on her face, perhaps wearing a dress that would leave him speechless.

Finally, after what felt like the longest five minutes, the building's door opened, and there was Gwen, glowing as usual, her blonde hair flowing lightly in the evening breeze.

She was wearing a simple yet stunning black dress that hugged her figure perfectly, emphasizing her elegance without being over the top.

The kind of dress that made Noah's heart skip every time he looked at her.

"Hey," she said with a soft smile as she descended the stairs toward him.

"Hey, Gwen," Noah replied, opening the car door with a small, playful grin. "After you, my lady."

She laughed, enjoying his little act, and slipped into the car.

As Noah closed the door behind her and sat in the driver's seat, he couldn't help but glance at her.

There was a sense of ease with her, a comfort that made him feel like he could just be himself.

There was something about this night that felt important. Maybe it was because they were finally doing something outside of school, or maybe it was because Noah knew that this date could shape how things would progress between them.

As they drove through the streets of Queens, passing by the bustling streets lit by neon signs and street vendors, they talked about everything and nothing at all. Gwen asked about Noah's day, and he found himself telling her stories about his usual routine, carefully avoiding mentioning the more complicated aspects of his life, like his strange powers or his late-night habit of fighting crime. He wasn't sure how she would respond to all that just yet.

The conversation flowed easily, and before long, they arrived at the cinema, a small, cozy place that wasn't as crowded as some of the bigger theaters in the city.

It was the perfect setting for their simple plans. They got out of the car, and Noah followed Gwen into the cinema lobby, where the air was filled with the scent of popcorn and butter.

Noah glanced at the posters on the wall. "What movie are we watching again?"

Gwen, her eyes sparkling with excitement, said, "The new romantic comedy. You know, the one you said you'd watch because you 'had no other plans'?"

Noah laughed and shrugged, pretending to deny something he knew all too well. "Guilty as charged. But hey, I'm down for a good romantic comedy every now and then."

They bought their tickets and found their seats inside the dimly lit theater, where they were away from the noise. As the lights dimmed and the film started, Noah began to relax more. The movie was light, funny, and heartwarming—far from the chaotic life he often found himself submerged in. It was the perfect backdrop for a relaxing evening with Gwen.

In the middle of the movie, Gwen leaned in slightly, her voice a whisper. "I'm really glad we're doing this. It's nice, you know? Just... being simple, like this?"

Noah turned to meet her gaze and nodded. "Yeah, I know what you mean. It's really nice to just enjoy our time together like this."

They both turned their attention back to the screen, but Noah couldn't shake the warmth that her words had left him with. It made everything feel right.

After the movie ended, they left the theater and returned to the cold New York night. Noah was still feeling the joy from the simplicity they had shared, and they continued chatting as they walked back to the car.

But as they approached the car, things took an unexpected turn.

A figure emerged from the shadows, walking toward them with a serious expression. It was none other than Captain George Stacy, Gwen's father, standing near the entrance of the building. Clearly, he had been waiting for them.

Noah's heart raced at the sight. He had heard of Captain Stacy before—he was the well-known police officer in Queens. And he was also Gwen's father, which added another layer of pressure to the situation.

Gwen noticed him too, her face changing to one of surprise. "Dad?"

Captain Stacy gave her a kind smile and a nod of approval but quickly turned his attention to Noah, his gaze sharp and calculating.

"Good evening, Noah," he said in a steady voice, with a hint of authority. "How's it going?"

Noah gave a light smile, trying to keep his composure. "Good evening, sir. Everything... is fine."

Captain Stacy observed him carefully. There was no animosity in his voice, but the way he was sizing Noah up made the tension in the air palpable.

"Thank you for taking Gwen out tonight," Captain Stacy said, his gaze softening. "She mentioned you were going to the movies. I was nearby, so I thought I'd stop by and say hello. I hope you treated her well."

Noah's heart raced. He felt like he was being silently evaluated—perhaps because he was. And honestly, he couldn't blame him. Every father wanted to make sure their daughter was in good hands.

"I hope I did," Noah said. "We had a great time."

Captain Stacy's expression shifted slightly, as if he were deciding whether Noah's words were genuine. Then, he nodded. "It's good to hear that."

He turned his attention back to Gwen, his demeanor now much more relaxed. "Goodnight, you two. Let me know when you get home, alright?"

Gwen nodded, her eyes gleaming with amusement. "Of course, Dad. I'll text you."

Captain Stacy gave them both a brief nod before turning and walking away with calm steps. Gwen looked at Noah, a playful smile spreading across her face.

"Well… that was interesting," she said, folding her arms with a playful grin.

Noah chuckled lightly. "Yeah… I think he gave me the 'don't mess with my daughter' speech without actually saying it."

Gwen laughed softly. "It wasn't that bad, but he has a way of making you feel like you're under a microscope."

Noah laughed. "Yeah, well, I'm not surprised. He's a cop, after all."

They got back in the car, and Noah started the engine as they drove through the quiet streets of Queens. Despite the slight tension earlier, the rest of the night went smoothly. They talked more about school, their future plans, and of course, shared more laughs.

The date had been a success, and when Noah dropped Gwen off at her apartment, he couldn't help but feel a sense of contentment. It had been a simple and enjoyable night, and their connection had only grown stronger.

As Gwen stepped out of the car, she turned to him with a warm smile.

"Thank you for tonight, Noah. I really had a great time," she said in her soft but sincere voice.

Noah smiled back at her. "I had a great time too. Will I see you again soon?"

"Definitely," she said, giving him a small wave as she turned and walked up the steps of her building.

Noah watched her disappear inside, and as he pulled away, he felt a sense of satisfaction.

The date had gone well, and while there may have been moments of tension, it had only brought them closer together. And maybe, just maybe, this was the beginning of something even better.
