Chapitre 1: Chapter 1: Sweet and Pungent

"Damn that was a painful way to die." A wandering soul of a boy in the eternal afterlife, thought to himself as he remembered what had happened just a few minutes ago.

One moment he was walking down the road and the next thing he knew, a live high-intensity wire fell onto his head, toasting him alive.

And now, he was following the hundreds of millions of souls that were continuously moving in this unending void.

He tried talking to them but even though it seemed like his voice was loud and clear, nobody was listening to him.

So he just continued doing what he was doing. Time passed and passed, he couldn't tell anymore if the passage of time even mattered at this point.

But one thing that was bugging him, was why the hell was everyone just following each other around like sheep but with no real purpose.

And why the f**k was he doing the same. (A/N: Blud realised he has free will.)

So, breaking the constant line of souls the particularly conscious soul of the boy, threw himself out of the moving line.

And then he started flying away in an opposite direction. When he looked back after getting a bit far, he felt like the stupidest being of all time.

The uncountable number of souls were just moving in circles.

Suddenly, a blue screen appeared in front of him:

{Congratulations! Achievement Completed!

'Be the first to break the cycle.'

Taking your personal interest and wishes from when you were a human, the wheels of fates have been created for you.

The wheel will decide the anime world that you'll be reincarnated to. Including the powers that you'll be granted.}

A vision of two great lottery wheels appeared in his consciousness.

{Do You want to Spin the Wheel?} The voice came again.

If the soul had a heart and a living body right now, he would be filled with excitement and maybe more anxiety.

Excitement, because he was about to go into an anime world with some unknown powers, anxiety, because luck was never on his side, on wheel based lotteries.

'Spin it.' He thought and within seconds, the two wheels spun at speeds he didn't knew was even possible.

After what felt like an eternity of spinning, the wheels came to a stop.

{Congratulations!!!

You've gotten the World of Bleach, with the powers of Vergil Sparda(DMC 5).}

The soul was speechless, granted he didn't have mouth but still, he could make sounds until now. And seeing that lady luck had finally taken his side, he had no words but to mentally grovel, thanking his luck.

'The world of Bleach with the powers of eldest son of Sparda. Yeah, why not. Let's have some fun.' He thought before his consciousness vanished and left the eternal void of afterlife.

(A/N: Bleach's first chapter came out, sometime in 2001. And the first episode of anime aired in 2004.So, I'll take April to June, of 2003 as the start of canon timeline.

And this ff will start at least 10 years before that time. This also matches the time gap of Masaki's death in the canon, which was 9 years before the canon.

Also, Vergil's power reference will be from DMC 5, but he will look a bit younger. Most likely in his mid to late twenties.

His age will be the same though, early forties, he'll just look younger. Tbh DMC 5 Vergil doesn't look that old either.

And most important point to remember: He will not have the complete personality of Vergil, this is just someone else acting just a bit like Vergil.)

August 1993:

Karakura Town, West Tokyo Japan.

Inside one of the two storied houses in the town, a man who looked like he was in his mid-twenties, with platinum-white hair that was a bit on the longer side, was asleep on his bed.

Slowly opening his eyelids, he revealed a pair of light-blue eyes. Getting up from the bed he quickly strode towards the bathroom.

Standing at a height of 6 foot 4 inch (195cm), the man had a subtle smile crept on his face. 'I'm really here, aren't I?'

This was the same soul reincarnated onto this world with Vergil's powers. Or more precisely, as Vergil Sparda himself.

Vergil's naked upper body was showing his athletically muscular build. 'It said DMC 5, but I do look a lot younger, don't I?'

But more than that, he could feel the overwhelming power inside of him that was roaring to burst out.

His senses could perceive things, even miles away from his position and the sheer speed and precision of his perception, that could trace things at even a micro-level.

It was all endearing and exciting at the same time. The first thing he did, was to completely suppress all the demonic energy and the ridiculous aura, that he was emitting.

Vergil had some foreign memories imprinted onto his mind. Memories of the person who had lived in this house.

It wasn't exactly a true history, but he figured it was given by the same being or phenomenon, that reincarnated him into this world.

'Well, that's better than being homeless. And my existence won't be questioned, if I already existed in this world.' He nodded in approval.

After freshening up and having something to eat, Vergil wore some simple clothes, his hair still tread down and had dark translucent sunglasses over his eyes, he set out to check one very important thing.

A few minutes later, Vergil was standing in front of the Kurosaki Clinic.

'Five individuals. Two girls barely older than three or four.

A boy about six to seven years old and two adults. I see… I still have eight to 9 years before Rukia is deployed on her mission.' He thought to himself.

Sensing someone coming out, Vergil disappeared from the place. And soon after, the house's front door was opened.

It was a beautiful middle-aged woman with long honey-blonde hair. "Huh... What's wrong, dear?" A man's voice came from the inside.

"Nothing!" She shrugged and thought, 'I'm sure I saw someone.'

Back to Vergil.

He was now somewhere in an abandoned city on an isolated island. 'Humm… Masaki still seemed to have her powers.

Means he hasn't acted yet. She died eight to nine years prior to the start of main events, didn't she? Humm….' Vergil thought to himself, as he was seated on the rooftop of one of the abandoned buildings.

'This place... The lead poisoning from the decommissioned mine, has caused even the plants to cease existing.

I won't feel guilty destroying this place then.' He thought as he was planning to test out his abilities. And he knew it wouldn't be so subtle.

He then summoned the Yamato from the dimensional sub-space.

Pushing the handguard of the sword, his heartbeat raced as he witnessed the brilliance of the sword's sharpness. It was probably one of the most dangerous weapons in existence.

Holding the sheath in his left hand, he swung the blade in air with a masterful technique that he was using for the first time but felt, as if he was doing it for his entire life.

The edge of Yamato seemed to cut through the air itself. Bringing the blade to his eye level, he sheathed the sword just halfway.

He suddenly disappeared and reappeared on the road below the empty building. An almost invisible slash of pure kinetic energy, went diagonally through the centre of the building.

Vergil on the ground had already sheathed his sword and it was then, that the top half of the building slid to the ground, disintegrating into pieces halfway down the line.

This was just a fraction of his pure physical capabilities. He hadn't even used the demonic energy yet.

Channeling a bit of demonic energy onto his hands and the sword and getting down to a Iaijutsu stance, Vergil recalled the core form of Dark Slayer arts.

It was to use Iaido in multiple simultaneous successions in almost or beyond lightspeed, creating slashes that would implode together, collapsing the space itself that the slashes were raining onto.

"Void Slashes." 'Pretty much a small scale Judgement Cut.' He thought, then amplifying his strength and range with demonic energy, unsheathed the sword once and sheathed it back in blinding speed.

Almost instantaneously, a flurry of slashes rained down on an empty spherical area in the air, which then imploded onto itself producing a satisfying sound of implosion.

Aiming at the multiple abandoned structures, Vergil let the demonic energy flow through his entire body, then disappeared in a blue flash, leaving behind a blue translucent afterimage.

Reappearing on the other side of the city, he sheathed his sword and after a delay of almost three seconds, "BOOM!"

The multiple buildings that he went past, all turned into small cubical pieces and successively into dust, then came the aftershocks and the shockwaves of his slashes, that blew a strong wind towards his direction.

Vergil's speed was no joke. With just a bit of effort, he could move faster than his own demonic slashes, which on themselves seemed instantaneous to normal eyes.

Putting the Yamato back into the sub-space, he summoned a blue spectral great-sword, "Mirage Edge."

Unlike Yamato, Mirage edge was as strong as his conviction. So, depending on his state of mind, it could be the strongest weapon in his arsenal or the weakest in existence.

'Yeah, like I'll let that happen. Being associated with the term weakness, would be a disgrace on 'Vergil's' name.' He thought as he looked at his spectral sword.

He could change its form into anything. 'A big smashing hammer.' The sword transformed into a gigantic mallet that he smashed onto the ground, like a meteor.

The shockwave alone was enough to push back all the structures in the city and produce an earthquake on the island.

'Hundreds of smaller or even bigger blades.' He thought and channeled a lot of demonic energy into the Mirage Edge.

The sword broke down and created hundreds if not thousands of other swords that were rotating in circles around Vergil.

With his arms spread out, he levitated into the air as the countless swords started spinning and with just a thought, all of them launched into multiple directions.

The spectral swords enhanced with demonic energy were not only packing a punch, but an explosive force that brought absolute chaos in the entire island.

For a whole minute, the swords continued their unending assault, each impact creating a small scale explosion of demonic energy.

At the end of the assault, the entire island was covered in a cloud of dust and an unsettled mist of glistening blue demonic energy.

Before everything could settle down, Vergil, who was still in the air, put the Mirage Edge back in the sub-space then summoned the weapons of light, Beowulf.

The demonic gauntlet and boots made out of dark demonic metals which held the power of light, appeared on his hands and legs.

Reeling his fist back, he loaded a lot of light based energy and demonic energy together. Then swiftly flying down, he threw the punch towards the ground.

The sea around the island was fairly silent until now, but suddenly, a big explosion erupted out of the centre of the town.

"BOOM!!!" A shockwave of white and blue energy erupted outwards, disintegrating everything in its path.

The sea basin of the island collapsed onto itself and soon enough, the island itself was submerged onto the sea as the explosive release of energy was still moving outwards.

The water that was pushed back by the blast, flowed back in, drowning the entire island in the blink of an eye.

A few minutes later, there was nothing but silence and blue ocean all around. Suddenly, Vergil flew out of water, "Splash!"

Standing mid-air he looked down, only to see the endless ocean in place of the abandoned city that he was in, earlier.

Beowulf disappeared from his arms and legs, then he thought, 'Damn, I'm a living walking disaster now, huh… Sigh… I need to be more careful about how I use my powers then.'

And that was true, there was no finesse to having each of his attacks resemble a thermonuclear explosion.

'Well, I knew something like this was going to happen.' He thought as this was the reason that he searched for an abandoned place.

'S**t, did I accidentally spread the lead poisoning onto the water?' He observed as he got a bit close to the ocean surface.

'No. It seems everything's buried under the sea floor now. Whew…' If it was the real Vergil, he wouldn't care about such small details.

But he wasn't as cold-hearted as the real one. 'I was planning to test out the transformations too. But that will be for another time.' He thought then disappeared from the place.

Time slowly passed, after his first mishap at the abandoned city. Vergil noticed a lot of Shinigamis, who were deployed around that region for investigation.

So, from then on he rarely caused such a big scene and did all his trainings and practices in silence.

He wasn't hiding from them, per say. But he didn't want them pestering him, at least not before sh*t had hit the fan.

Other than his training, he worked as a server in a café, who were more than happy to hire someone so well spoken and attractive as him.

As he had Vergil's memories and experience, he didn't lack well endowed manners and elegance in anything he did.

Vergil was content with how things were, as of now. Which was surprising considering the constant urges for a worthy battle.

But he was a normal human before, so he could easily control those urges and live life the way he wanted to live.

Several months later:

It was the weekend so; Vergil was in his home. He had a tight black t-shirt and loose pants on and was comfortably sitting on his couch, reading a manga.

Suddenly a mocking voice came from his back. "You're awfully quiet today, boss. Did someone reject you or something?"

It was his summoned familiar, Griffon. A demonic bird, roughly the size of an adult hawk, with dark blue body, and bright-blue linings of demonic energy throughout its body.

Not getting any reply from the man who was engrossed in his book, Griffon spoke again, "See? Even shadow thinks the same." And pointed its beak towards the black panther, who was peacefully sleeping on circular bed that was beside the large window.

Vergil looked up at the demonic feline, who just raised her head as if to shrug. Seeing the two of his friends completely ignoring him, Griffon was getting more and more irritated.

"Hey, Vergil, V, Angelo? Oh, come on… I'm bored!!! Can't we just go out and kill those things you called hollows?

And where's Nightmare, anyways?" He asked at the end.

Vergil finally replied, "Sigh… I can share my Vision with him, so, I've sent him to do some things for me."

"Hoh, are you planning something?" The bird asked.

"For now, let's just say that I'm observing someone." 'The time Masaki is supposed to lose her life, is finally closing.

I also want to see if a certain person does anything during this incident.'

The bird then said, "Whatever… Come on boss. Let's just go out and kill those hollows. They're a nuisance anyways…"

"For the last time. I can't just go out and destroy those things. While one or two won't be noticed by anyone…" Before he could finish, Griffon interrupted.

"Yeah, yeah, I know. The balance between souls and hollows and all that s**t talk. Why are you afraid of those Shinigamis anyways? You literally eat reapers for your breakfast."

"Afraid, my foot. I just don't want anyone disturbing the peaceful life that I have. And besides I have my own plans." Vergil replied as he closed the book and got up from the couch.

"The plans that you never fill me in. Come on, I'm your only friend. And you sometimes treat me like I don't even exist."

Vergil raised his eyebrows at Griffon's statement. "Alright, let's go out." Vergil spoke, getting a surprised look from the bird.

"Oh yeah! Where are we going?" Griffon spoke.

"Not you, me. We're out of tomatoes." He replied.

"Tomatoes, f**kin tomatoes… When did the Dark Slayer, started caring about food?" He complained.

"I always care about food. And you love eating Shakshuka." Vergil replied as he was changing his clothes. He just put on a thin jacket over his t-shirt and changed the pants.

"Hey shadow! Say something. Don't you think Vergil's changed a lot? He's a lot less… What's that term… Ah… Edgy, since he came to this world. Hey, why are you silent too?" Griffon asked in frustration.

Vergil grabbed Griffon from his back and said, "She's always silent. You're the one who keeps running his mouth. Humm… Maybe I should seal your voice."

"Don't you dare…" The bird was about to complain, when Vergil started patting his feathery head.

"Huh? Why are you acting gay all of a sudden? Humm? I don't know what you're doing but don't stop." Griffon didn't know getting his feather-back and under-chin scratched, could feel so good.

"Now be a good bird and don't leave Shadow's side." Vergil spoke and threw the bird at the sleeping panther.

"You piece of s**t." Griffon complained as he was smacked on the window glass.

Vergil went out of the house and walked towards the local mart, with slow and comfortable strides.

Standing on other side of the road he could see a little girl with long orange hair, crossing the road with an off minded expression.

She had a bag of few groceries on her hand, a sad expression on her face and seemed completely unaware of a large vehicle coming her way.

'How is she even alive until now?' Vergil sighed as this was the fourth time, he had to save the girl, Orihime Inoue.

Picking the exact moment in a fraction of a second, where almost everyone who was around, was either distracted or had their eyes blinked.

Vergil blitzed past his position and slowly picked up the girl, who had an obvious surprised expression as there was a truck, just inches away from her face, and then reappeared on the other side of the road.

Orihime was confused seeing herself safe and sound, on the same side that she had started. But the next feeling was all too familiar. The feeling of someone pulling her ears.

"Gil-nii, ow, ow… Sorry, sorry… I promise I'll see the traffic signal next time." She quickly spoke.

"This is fourth time you've said that." Vergil replied, letting her go.

"Te-he!" She bit her tongue scratching the top of her head.

'Cute!' He thought but had a stoic expression outside.

'I wanted to check whether I could save her brother. But he was already dead… She's a strong girl though, even though I and her neighbours help her out sometimes.

She basically lives alone.' Vergil thought, looking at her handbag.

"I'm not even going to ask, why you have bought leek, honey and cereal at the same time." Vergil spoke. He was always intrigued by her tastes.

She scratched her head awkwardly.

"Ice-cream?" He asked, since he always bought her one.

"Really?" She questioned, stars beaming in her eyes.

Inside the supermarket as Vergil was packing some quality tomatoes, Orihime was busy choosing an ice-cream flavor for herself.

"What did you decide on?" Vergil asked, looking at the seemingly conflicted girl.

'I'm guessing it's not one of the normal flavored ones.' He thought.

"Gil-nii, I'm confused between Naku and Kombu flavors." She spoke.

"Aren't they both seaweeds?" He asked.

"Yes, but one's more pungent than the other. My mind says more pungent, but my stomach's looking for something less strong." She said innocently, as if that was her greatest dilemma.

'Why would you even want something, that tastes pungent in the first place?' He thought, but decided it was better not to ask.

"How about both then? You could eat one of them, later." He spoke.

Orihime didn't object to the idea and asked, "You're not having one?" But then answered her question herself, "Oh I forgot. You hate sweet things, don't you?"

"Well I don't hate them. I just tend to avoid them." 'How does sweet and pungent even work together?' He Questioned himself as they walked towards the billing counter.

Vergil could hear some people whispering about how he was so young and already had a daughter.

He didn't mind it though. 'Heh, I'd be blessed to have child like her.' He thought as he patted the little girl's head, who was walking beside him.

She gave an innocent look at him, which made him gently smile at her.

Vergil walked her to her home, then walked towards his own. He suddenly stopped and said, "What are you doing here?"

Suddenly Griffon landed on his shoulder and replied, "I knew it. Boss, you really did have an illegitimate child. And you're secretly taking care of her!" His voice sounded as if he had uncovered some unearthly secrets.

With a sigh, Vergil replied, "First of all, stop reading those stupid novels. And second, she's not my daughter.

Besides, she lost her brother and just lives alone. So, I just help her out sometimes."

"Empathy? Heh, not something I thought I'd see in you." Griffon remarked.

"What kind of man do you take me for?" Vergil asked in a fake offended tone.

"Arrogant, self-motivated, half-Devil, who has taken billions of lives." Griffon replied.

"99.99 % of those lives were demons, you know." Vergil corrected the demonic bird.

"Still 'lives', nonetheless. I am a demon too you know." The bird remarked.

"So, you want revenge or what?" Vergil asked, summoning a blue spectral sword just above Griffon's head.

Griffon quickly replied, "W- what I meant to say, was that… Demons are trash! And trash should be cleaned properly.

I- I'll just go back; shadow should be feeling all lonely at home." He stammered and was about to fly away when Vergil snagged him and brought him close to his face.

Griffon was stressed out. He didn't know what his boss was going to do. "We're already here." He turned the bird around, showing that they were already in front of the house.

"You're just messing with me! You piece of sh*t mo********er ####****#*#*#*." He kept cussing at him but was completely ignored.

"I wanted to make some Shakshuka but considering that you're mad. I don't suppose you'll eat my cooking today, will you?" Vergil spoke, gaining the birds attention, who was already down on his feet, groveling and telling him how great of a cook, he was.

Few weeks later:

After completing his shift in the café, Vergil checked out of the staff room. And was about to head to the place where he did his daily practice.

On his way, he sensed someone following him. He didn't turn around or make any other movements that could make the follower suspicious.

More so, because they had been following him for a while now, he had ignored it since they never made any other movements.

'Whoever it is. Excellent job hiding your presence.' Vergil praised. It had become a habit of sort; whenever he found something impressive, he didn't hesitate to give a positive approval.

Granted he could intercept the follower anytime he wanted. But where was the fun in that.

It didn't feel like one of the Shinigamis, since the spiritual energy emitted was too feeble or it was well suppressed, compared to the walking signal beacons, that the other Shinigamis were.

'Sigh… Those idiots. Except for the few strong ones. I've never seen any Shinigami suppressing their Spiritual Pressure.

And they wonder why every dime a dozen hollow is attracted to them.' Vergil thought, disapprovingly shaking his head.

Since he was being followed for a while now, Vergil just tapped into his ultra-speed perception. In this state, time itself seemed to have been stopped.

But in fact, everything for him was just slowed down to almost a halt. Swiftly disappearing from his position, he reappeared behind his stalker.

It was a black cat, with golden eyes.

... To Be Continued !!!
