Chapitre 2: Chapter 2: An Interruption Perhaps

To say that today could've gone mildly better would've be an understatement.

It was a colossal over statement that needed to be desperately addressed.

A slight irritation had been growing inside of her ever since having been brought here. To be forced to have to continue to fight from the get-go and continue to do so without a proper understanding nor reason was not her way of dealing with things.

On her way to the so-called city of Vale, she had encountered a vast horde of grimm, and they in turn had discovered her. Believing her to be easy prey, a few leapt and pounced on her to feast on her soul, while the others continued towards their journey, yet in an astonishing display she killed them within mere seconds.

From then on, everything they threw at her did nothing, except seem only to annoy her ever slightly more for over the course of an hour.

Standing amongst the horde of grimm, The Fourth Harbinger stood with no fear, her hand holding a large ape like grimm by the face, her sharp talons, piercing into its mask, cracking and making the grimm underneath writhe in agony as it struggled to break free from her iron grip.

The surrounding grimm growled and hissed at her, circling her as wolves would do to their prey, prodding and searching for a shred of weakness on her that they could exploit, yet they would find none.

A soft but loud whisper broke through the woods, echoing into the surroundings. Her voice, emotionless, but held a slight gleam of curiosity. "Are you afraid?"

The horde trembled, their minds already overwhelmed with the display of power and superiority she had shown. Their response was to try to stand be louder than you are, to intimidate an enemy, in hopes of them either running or showing some form of weakness. They hissed and growled loudly as they continued to circle her, gathering more and more numbers.

"So, it would seem the creatures of the dark do feel fear", uttered Arlecchino to herself as she clenched her fist shut, killing the grimm in her hand in an instant. Its headless body fell to the floor with a heavy thud, disintegrating as she turned her attention to the other surrounding grimm. "You? The creatures of shadow and darkness do feel fear?!" she stated but louder this time.

She surprised herself as a small chuckle erupted from her throat as she digested this newfound information. From her observations alone, some of these creatures were larger, far more numerous, and by design could be more dangerous than the Abyss creatures, if they played to their strengths correctly, yet she found herself unimpressed, even disappointed with them as they acted more like instinctive beasts.

But what exactly was to be expected from the spawns of darkness?

Letting her power envelope her body, flames erupted out her back, breaking out into a feathered wing of unbridled red ember flame energy that glistened in the evening sun.

"Pitiful." She had almost spat out those words as her expression went from stoic to disappointed as she glared at all those around her, her dark X shaped crimson iris eyes only filled with disgust.

With unmatched speed, she launched herself towards the nearest grimm, kneeing it in the face so hard that its head exploded in an explosion of flames. "Allow me to wipe this pitiful excuse for creatures of the dark off the face of existence", she proclaimed loudly, spinning on the spot mid air to round house kick another on the side of head, sending it flying through the trees.

As she landed, she quickly leaned to the side, allowing the claws of a werewolf grimm to sail past her head. Grabbing the wrist of the werewolf, she swung it around like a bat and threw it at a group of grimm before clicking her fingers, a tornado of flames erupted from underneath it, swirling and growing ever bigger as it sucked and destroyed everything around it.

Noises of alarm, and false bravado could be heard from the grimm as they both tried to instinctively fall onto their predatory instincts and ignore the ever-rising sense of danger that they were developing. Waves upon waves of them were wiped in mere seconds, yet no matter how scared they were, their instincts screamed at them to flee to preserve themselves. And yet, a new instinct emerged from the sense of self-confidence that promised them that if they were to consume this woman's soul, it would be as delicious as all the souls in the city of Vale combined.

With renewed vigor, they rushed at her like a moth to a flame, undeterred by danger nor fear, as they felt that very flame before them fly through them like they were nothing, dancing around them like it was a concert. Bodies and heads flew into the sky as she dealt with them ruthlessly. She was a red blur of destruction as her speed was far too fast for them to keep up with. Everywhere she went; explosions and tornadoes of pure red ember flames would wipe out whole clumps of them.

One particularly older bear like grimm quickly lost sight of her amid the flurry explosions, as she further disappeared into the horde.

In a panic, it looked around, its head and eyes rapidly looking from side to side, as it defied its own instincts to consume, and slowly tried to back up from its ever closely impending doom. It was then though, that its senses for danger started to ring ever so loudly in its head, as it swung around to search for the source of it, but it would never find out though as its entire being was sent flying backwards into its brethren. The last thing that it could register was seeing the beautiful twisting red tornado flames dance amongst the horde before it, itself exploded and ended its life, permanently.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The hunters and huntresses manning the walls and holding the horde of grimm back from rushing through the breaches were startled to find that there were less and less grimm coming towards them.

The city of Vale had roughly been under siege for less than a couple of hours, and according to what they knew, grimm were relentless and would always be in vast groups for city wide attacks. Sieges and fights against the grimm could usually last several hours, depending on how they wanted to play it out by their Alpha leader, yet it already felt like the end of the fight for the defenders as less and less grimm trickled in onto the battlefield.

"Hey Andre, what the hell is going on?" radioed one of the hunters on the ground to their fellow huntress piloting a bullhead in the air. Confusion in his voice as he sighted more and more of the grimm turning around and heading back to where they came. "It makes no sense to attack the kingdom with this small amount. Where's the rest of them?"

"I'm not too sure." Came the reply, the sounds of whirring engines could be heard as the individual on the other end of the radio swore. "I'll go have a look after I deal with this."

Looking up to the sky, the hunter saw one of the few bullheads, hover-like aircraft, painted in all black doing risky air maneuvers to avoid being hit before turning and giving the grimm a face full of dust rounds. The other hunters and huntresses around him lowered their weapons, as the grimm started to fully retreat, not in what would seem to be full panic, but in more of a way that would show that they had found something far better than what they were originally dealing with.

Cries of shock and exclamations of confusion spread amongst the radio channels of the defenders as they also took note of the retreating grimm.

"What the hell?"

"I-I thought I was going to die?!"

"D-d-did anyone just see that?! They're retreating?!"

"Everyone knows that grimm don't retreat like that."

Amongst the clutter of the radio channels, the voice of the pilot cut through them. "Everyone, please remain vigilant while I go take a look."

The sight of the black painted bullhead flying along in the air with various scratches and damages, but not out of the fight, invigorated the rest of them as it soared off into the sky to search for clues.

As the pilot glanced out of the window of her cockpit, her heart almost stopped as she saw the massive, almost unbeatable number of grimm that lay before her eyes. Their numbers possibly leading into the tens of thousands, as the visual sight of them stretched for as far as she could see, and yet she could see that their attention was not focused on the city of Vale, but something else behind them.

As she flew for a few more seconds searching, brief flashes of light could be seen from the very edge of her peripheral vision as she turned and flew towards the source. To her utter amazement she caught sight of dozens of tornadoes made of deep crimson flames blowing through the horde like butter. Its destructive power levels like never before seen as she lifted the bullhead further up into the sky to avoid being dragged into it. "Uhhh Sven, can you ask command if there are any huntsman or huntresses actually missioned with engaging the horde of grimm outside of Vale?" The pilot questioned her own sanity as she went through various scenarios. From natural occurring disasters to unnatural phenomenon, yet nothing she could put together sat right with her.

There was a brief pause before the radio cracked to life in response, a lively voice answering her. "Command said that there should be no one out of Vale under their orders." The voice paused for a moment before continuing in a more questioning tone. "Why? Did you see a group out there?"

As the pilot flew nearer, she saw the sight of the grimm in one sided slaughter somewhat disturbing. Further in the back, she could see some of the grimm break off from the horde and escape the battlefield.

"What the hell. This doesn't make any sense", the pilot stated, still in confusion as she briefly caught sight of a red blur amid the flames and horde. It was almost too fast, for she may have missed it, if it not for her being both a faunas, and her activating her reflex semblance, concentrating the most of it into her eyes. "Hey guys, I think there's someone or something here that's doing our work for us."

Questions of confusion and concern drowned the channel. But the pilot's attention wasn't paying attention anymore, as she finally caught sight of what the red blur really was. As it stopped in the middle of a small clearing of grimm, revealing the blur to be a beautiful young woman her flaming wing attracting much of attention. "Wait, what the hell?! IT'S A SINGLE WOMAN?!"

The pilot reached over and pressed a few buttons, activating the external camera system on her bullhead, redirecting it to face the location of the woman. With a reassuring hum, the camera turned on and captured everything it saw, sharing its visual with all those back in Vale. "I've never seen anything like this."

As the hunters and huntresses quickly pulled out their scrolls, connecting them to the feed, gasps, cries of shock, and questions were the only things that could uttered as what they saw was both visually beautiful, yet also unnerving to them.

Grimm being on the backfoot and not lasting a more than just a few seconds against this combatant was a sight to behold.

The pilot steadied the bullhead at a safe altitude, careful to avoid the attention of the nearby airborne grimm.

For only a moment though, the camera finally focused in on the clearing, showing a young woman to the hunters and huntresses. The grimm further backed up all around her, creating a large circle of no man's land around her, their hisses and growls growing louder. The camera's focus finally showed her in all her beauty as it zoomed to identify who she was, to reveal an otherworldly beauty, like no one they had seen before, her red wing garnering much of their attention as it glistened and shone with pure energy.

"Holy shit?!"

"What the fuck?!"

"W-who is she?!"

"She's beautiful."

"M-my saviour . . . . . "

"Is she a Schnee?"

"Is she an angel?!"

"Is she a faunas?"

From the view, the young woman was an otherworldly beauty that had just saved them.

A Goddess?

Perhaps to some. But to most others, she was most likely a huntress who had come at their time of need, with overwhelming power to back it up. Who she was, remained a mystery to everyone as they saw her create a scythe of pure red flames. She swung it around her, creating a sea of red crimson flames that engulfed and swallowed all those around her, further enhancing and making the point of no man's land.

It was then at this point that the flames around the woman rose to a terrifying height reaching high into the sky before stopping. The towering flames coalesced at the very top, forming a sphere of pure red energy that shone more and more sinisterly. Its growth getting bigger and bigger, and more flames poured into its very being.

It was at this point that the grimm truly felt their danger senses clambering against their very sense of being, drowning out their instincts to consume. But it was already too late for them to act upon this feeling, as the sphere grew to a humongous shape. With its final formation, a loud WHUMP, echoed throughout the whole continent as the sky started to turn a dark crimson red. Its very centre being an eternal soul sucking black.

The hunters and huntresses back at Vale could see this phenomenon from even where they were. With the full formation of the giant sphere of energy in the sky, the world seemed to go dark, as a voice, arrogant, yet stoic and confident at the same time filled their ears.

"This is where you fall."

And just like so, the whole world exploded in a flurry of deep red explosions. Deep red spikes sprung up from the ground, stabbing and disintegrating all it touched. Explosions the size of small napalm bombs bloomed, wiping out vast amounts of the forests and grimm alike.

As she stood amongst the explosions and destruction of the crimson moon, the young woman gazed up directly into the camera of the bullhead and stared directly into its lens, catching everyone by surprise. Her crimson X eyes on full display, as it shown a dark color before the image shattered and cut off feed all together.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Arlecchino let out a small laugh to herself as she closed her eyes and felt the flames, felt her energy, felt the explosions blossom into existence all around her. A small, satisfied smile emerged on her face before disappearing as she opened her eyes.

"For me" ,she whispered as she gazed up longingly at the shattered moon in the sky, allowing the explosions and flames to fully consume her being, embracing the warmth entirely.
