"It seems that this is the only way," Gary thought as he realized his Blastoise couldn't land a decisive blow on Moore's Infernape. He reached for the Key Stone on his wrist and activated it.
"Blastoise, Mega Evolve!"
As Gary spoke, the Key Stone on his wrist and the Mega Stone on Blastoise emitted a brilliant light. After the light faded, Mega Blastoise stood ready on the battlefield.
"Is that... Blastoise?" Flannery, the referee, exclaimed in disbelief as she saw the transformed Pokémon.
Both Flannery and her grandfather, Moore, were puzzled by this new form. Gary took the opportunity to explain Mega Evolution to them.
"So that's how it is!" Flannery, Moore, and Hilda, who were witnessing Mega Evolution for the first time, quickly understood thanks to Gary's explanation.
"I never imagined such an evolution method existed. It's truly eye-opening!" Moore remarked, still amazed by the phenomenon.
"Now, Gary, show me the strength of your Mega Blastoise!" Moore challenged, eager to see what this new form could do.
"Blastoise, use Iron Defense!" Gary commanded.
A metallic sheen enveloped Blastoise, significantly boosting its defense.
"Infernape, use Fire Spin!" Moore countered.
A fiery vortex spiraled towards Blastoise, but Gary was ready. "Use Rapid Spin!"
Blastoise retracted into its shell and spun rapidly, breaking through the fiery vortex and slamming into Infernape, knocking it back several meters.
"Now, Hydro Cannon!" Gary shouted.
Blastoise's cannons aimed at Infernape, unleashing a powerful torrent of water. Infernape, unable to dodge, braced itself.
"Infernape, use Blast Burn!" Moore ordered.
A massive flame erupted from Infernape, meeting the Hydro Cannon in the center of the field. The two attacks clashed fiercely.
"Blastoise, give it everything you've got!" Gary encouraged.
"Kami!" Blastoise roared, intensifying its Hydro Cannon. The water stream grew stronger, slowly overpowering Infernape's Blast Burn.
"We can't give up, Infernape! Push harder!" Moore urged.
Despite Infernape's efforts, the younger and stronger Blastoise's attack overwhelmed the older Infernape's flames. The Hydro Cannon struck Infernape, sending it flying back to Moore's feet.
Infernape struggled to rise but ultimately succumbed to exhaustion and fainted.
"Grandpa lost?" Flannery was taken aback, having always seen her grandfather as invincible.
"Asha, remember to announce the result," Moore reminded his granddaughter gently as he recalled Infernape.
"Oh, right," Flannery said, snapping back to reality. "Infernape is unable to battle. Blastoise wins, and the victory goes to Gary!"
Moore approached Gary with Flannery, holding a badge. "When a challenger wins, it's the Gym Leader's duty to present the badge," he instructed Flannery.
"I understand, Grandpa," Flannery nodded, absorbing the lesson.
"This is the Heat Badge from our Lavaridge Gym, Gary. Please accept it," Moore said, handing the badge to Gary.
"Thank you, Mr. Moore," Gary replied, placing the badge in his case.
"Now it's my turn, Mr. Moore!" Rosa declared, stepping onto the battlefield.
"Alright, let's begin!" Moore said, ready for the next challenge.
As Gary left the field, the second gym battle between Rosa and Moore commenced.
