Chapitre 16: Chapter 16: Time Waits for No One

"What?" Michael looked completely confused.

The standard duration at Hogwarts is seven years, but if you don't pass any of the Ordinary Wizarding Level exams (also known as OWLs), you have to leave school after fifth year.

Michael didn't understand why Wade was asking such an obvious question that everyone knew the answer to.

"Seven years" Wade said with a hint of sorrow:

"A year is only 52 weeks. If you subtract the summer and Christmas holidays, we only get about 38 weeks at school each year, which totals just 266 weeks over seven years!"

"Uh..." Michael thought about it, "That's true—so what?"

"So… even if I could thoroughly study one book a week, that's only 266 books in seven years!

But how many books are there in the Hogwarts library? Thousands!

It's like a vault filled with treasures, open for you to take anything you want, but you walk in, take just a small bag of Galleons, and leave.

Isn't that a waste?"

Michael thought he made a good point, and suddenly, a sense of urgency, a feeling that "time waits for no one," arose in his heart.

"And think about it." Wade continued:

"Only during these seven years—no, within these 266 weeks—can we be in the safest place in the world, with the chance to learn from the greatest wizards of our time.

We're learning Transfiguration from Professor McGonagall, one of the few registered Animagi in the 20th century, Charms from Professor Flitwick, a dueling champion, and Potions from Professor Snape, who is the master of potions.

Although the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor is a bit lacking, where else will you find such an amazing learning environment after you leave Hogwarts?

When you encounter complex magical or potion-related problems after graduation, who will guide you as selflessly or teach you step by step like they do here?

If you later want to learn powerful spells but can't find any resources, won't it be too late to miss Hogwarts' library then?"

Not just Michael, but the surrounding students—who had, at some point, fallen silent—couldn't help but nod in agreement.

"So, Michael—" Wade asked solemnly, "Do you still think that using just one-seventh of our time to learn only eight books is enough?"

Now completely convinced by Wade's argument, Michael shook his head vigorously. He wanted to say something but couldn't find the words. However, thinking about the two weeks he had already "wasted," he couldn't help but feel a bit anxious.

He immediately stopped chatting with the girls, pulled out the [Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration] that he had tossed into a corner, and began studying.

For a moment, the Ravenclaw common room became so quiet that all you could hear were the sounds of pages turning and quills scratching.

When two fifth-year students, rushing back just before curfew, entered, they were so surprised they thought Professor Snape had invaded the Ravenclaw common room. They didn't even dare to breathe loudly and tiptoed back to their dormitory.

Dinner time, in the Great Hall.

"Something's off, Fred."

"Yeah, really off, George."

The red-headed twins exchanged a glance, and both reached out at the same time, randomly grabbing a Ravenclaw student. Before he could shout, they had already pinned him down on their house table.

"What do you two want, Weasleys?" the Ravenclaw boy grumbled, "I don't have time for your pranks."

"Huh? What?" Ron, who was munching on a chicken leg, looked up in confusion.

"Not your business, little Ron!" Fred pushed his brother's head back down, and the twins, flanking the Ravenclaw boy, wrapped their arms around his neck.

"Davies, what's been going on with you Ravenclaws lately?"

"Reading during meals—"

"Reading while walking—"

"Hardly any Ravenclaws in the courtyard during lunch—"

"Even less enthusiasm for Quidditch practice—"

"Not even going on dates over the weekend!"

"You weren't this into studying before!"

"Honestly, did Snape secretly give you all some kind of potion?"

"—Like a 'Love for Studying' potion or something?"

The thought of Professor Snape and a love potion with a pink hue made Roger Davies shudder.

"Don't be ridiculous. Professor Snape wouldn't brew a love potion… I mean, there's no such potion… I mean, we just suddenly realized—life is short, and the time we have to study is even shorter."

"Huh?" The Weasley twins looked at him in bewilderment.

Roger Davies took a deep breath and looked seriously at the twins. "Fred, George, do you know how long we get to stay at Hogwarts?"

Fred silently reached out to check his forehead temperature.

"My brain is not burned out!!" Davies slapped Fred's hand away and earnestly explained the theories, mentioning things like "266 weeks," "thousands of books," and "not studying hard is like entering a treasure mountain and leaving empty-handed."

After finishing, Davies took his book and headed to the Ravenclaw table for dinner. The Weasley brothers looked at each other, and even Harry and Ron, who had been focused on eating, unconsciously paused.

The atmosphere of diligent studying quietly began to spread throughout Hogwarts.

Of course, for most people, it was just a brief burst of enthusiasm. For example, Ron only managed to finish his History of Magic essay before returning to playing with his enchanted wizard chess pieces.

The twins, too, continued to spend most of their time on pranks and researching magical tricks. But there were some who were quietly motivated to start working harder.

Michael was one of those who put in intermittent effort. He was smart but not particularly diligent.

Sometimes, Wade's influence would inspire him to study for a while, but he would soon get distracted by more interesting things, like magically controlling little paper figures to fight or discussing music and fashion with pretty girls.

Most of the time, it was Wade, Hermione, Theo, and Ryan who were in the practice room.

Occasionally, Professor Sprout from Herbology would drop by, probably concerned that they were engaging in some dangerous activities.

However, after seeing the setup of the practice room and the results of their studies, she was full of praise for them.

She awarded each of their houses five points and mentioned that whenever she was free, they could come to her with any questions. She was happy to help students understand difficult topics.

Professor Sprout is a very kind and approachable witch, who almost never treats students differently based on their house. She favored those with exceptional talent in Herbology.

Not long after, Professor Sprout recommended a Gryffindor student to join their study group—Neville Longbottom.

The round-faced boy was honest and good-natured. He struggled a lot with his studies, learning spells slower than anyone else, but he was very hardworking and never caused trouble. He quickly became a part of their small group.

One weekend evening, a notice posted on the common room bulletin board caused a stir among all the first-year students—it announced that starting the next week, they would begin flying lessons!
