Chapter 193: Yokohama Kouhoku Academy - The Collapse of Composure
With roaring momentum and unity of purpose, Yokohama Kouhoku Academy tried to claw their way out of desperation, searching for a breakthrough in adversity.
However, the overwhelming dominance of Eijun's pitching began to dismantle their mental composure.
"Whoosh!"
"Crack!"
Why?
Why is his pitching still so ferocious?
On the batter's box, Ino's expression darkened as frustration flickered across his face.
"Thud!"
"Foul ball!"
Each pitch was sharper, more precise, and more powerful than the last.
Eijun's cold determination shone through his focused eyes as he swung his left arm with unrelenting force.
"Whoosh!"
"Crack!"
This isn't good!!!
Ino's expression shifted as he realized he was in trouble.
The ball flew off his bat, veering sharply toward the third-base foul line.
Seidou's third baseman, Masuko, calmly adjusted his position, extending his glove to catch the ball securely.
"Pop!"
"Out!"
"An exceptional display of pitching! First-year left-hander Sawamura Eijun has confidently shut down Yokohama Kouhoku's batters. Just five pitches—five pitches—to retire both their ace battery!"
Eijun's overwhelming dominance had completely suppressed Yokohama's lineup, leaving them with no chance to recover.
"Ohhhhh! Sawamura! Sawamura! Sawamura!"
"Well done, Sawamura, you devilish guy!"
"Amazing! Absolutely amazing, Sawamura!"
"What did you eat today? You're on fire!"
"One more! Just one more!"
The crowd's thunderous chants for "One more!" filled the stadium, casting a dark shadow over Yokohama Kouhoku's players.
Their faces grew visibly grim as the overwhelming support for Seidou only intensified their unease.
"First batter, second baseman, Ishigoka-kun!"
The pressure, the weight, the anxiety—it all bore down heavily on Yokohama's players.
On the batter's box, Ishigoka stood drenched in sweat.
It wasn't just the heat; it was the crushing burden of nerves and emotions swirling within him.
On the mound stood Eijun, his towering presence utterly suppressing Yokohama Kouhoku's morale.
"Whoosh!"
"Pop!"
"Strike!"
"Batter out! Three outs! Changeover!"
The final pitch—a fastball on the outer edge—secured a decisive strikeout.
No surprises, no miracles.
Just like in the fifth inning, Yokohama's attack ended in complete failure.
Seidou's defense, practically spectators at this point, had little to do as Miyuki and Seidou's battery single-handedly sealed off Yokohama's offense.
The top of the sixth inning concluded with Yokohama Kouhoku once again falling to Seidou's unshakable dominance.
More than half of Yokohama Kouhoku Academy's players began to show disheartened expressions.
Their defense was a grueling uphill battle, yet Seidou's defense seemed almost effortless in comparison.
The stark contrast was too glaring to ignore.
As Eijun jogged off the mound, he cast a quick glance toward Yokohama Kouhoku's dugout and shook his head almost imperceptibly.
To be fair, Yokohama Kouhoku's lineup was fairly well-rounded, but it still lacked the firepower to rival the true titans of high school baseball—teams like Inashiro Industrial, Yakushi, Ichidaisan High, Teito High, Komadai Fujimaki, and Osaka Kiryuu.
The defining issue with Yokohama Kouhoku's lineup was the absence of a genuine game-changer, a player who could turn the tide decisively.
Their cleanup hitters were competent but lacked the impact needed to dominate in clutch moments.
Even in the original timeline, this was evident.
They struggled to score against Tanba in the first four innings, only managing to break through in the fifth.
Tanba wasn't truly shaken until the seventh inning.
And back then, Tanba's performance was far from his peak.
Realistically speaking, Yokohama Kouhoku's lineup could only prevail against the version of Tanba from that time.
If the current Tanba were on the mound, he might concede a few runs, but it was highly unlikely for him to collapse entirely.
The problem with Yokohama Kouhoku's lineup lay in its reliability—it was solid but lacked the explosiveness necessary to unsettle top-tier teams.
And today, Eijun was in such exceptional form that he privately felt this might be one of the best performances of his career—even better than his decisive showdown against Inashiro Industrial in the finals.
Each pitch felt precise, deliberate, and completely within his control.
The feeling of being in total command bolstered Eijun's confidence to unprecedented levels.
"Good work, kid. You're on fire today!" Isashiki Jun grinned as he ruffled Eijun's hair roughly, laughing loudly.
"Don't get too full of yourself, Sawamura!" Kuramochi teased with his trademark mischievous grin.
"Keep it up," Chris added with a warm smile, while Coach Kataoka's expression softened noticeably.
Eijy's outstanding performance had lightened the atmosphere in Seido's dugout.
Though the team remained serious about the game, their mood was much more relaxed.
This wasn't overconfidence but a reflection of their discipline: underestimate no one strategically, but dominate them tactically.
Meanwhile, Yokohama Kouhoku's dugout tried to rally their spirits despite the dire situation.
"Don't give up; we still have chances!"
"That's right, there are three more innings! We can turn this around!"
"Yes, let's go!"
"Don't let Seidou look down on us!"
"Absolutely not!"
Though their morale had taken a significant hit, Yokohama Kouhoku's core players and their coach, Yamagake, refused to concede.
Yamagake did everything he could as a coach to inspire his team, determined not to give up until the very last moment.
But just when they were trying to steady themselves, an even worse situation began to unfold.
"Whoosh."
"Crack!!!!"
A crisp yet explosive sound tore through the air, the perfect parabolic arc shining brightly as it climbed the sky.
Then, with a graceful descent, it fell far beyond anyone's reach.
In that moment, a hushed silence enveloped the entire stadium.
"Whoosh."
"Thud."
Yokohama Kouhoku's left fielder, along with everyone else on the team, stared in disbelief as the white streak of light landed in the stands behind left field.
The dull thud of the ball landing and the triumphant gesture at home plate by the batter sent shockwaves through the field.
"Ohhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!"
After a brief moment of stunned silence, the crowd erupted.
Deafening cheers, shouts of disbelief, and incredulous expressions filled the air.
The entire stadium was ablaze with energy.
"A powerful hit! It's as if Seidou High School is responding to their pitcher's brilliant performance with an unshakable determination to score for their teammate! Batting sixth, catcher Miyuki Kazuya, delivers a home run to left field! Seidou High School extends their lead!!!"
The loud crack of the bat, followed by the booming cheers and gasps, created an electrifying atmosphere.
The scoreboard flipped, reflecting Seidou's newly gained run. With it, the fragile belief that Yokohama Kouhoku clung to began to crumble.
At that moment, the outcome of the game had already been decided. Victory belonged to Seidou.
