Chapitre 2: Who is he?

Elowen could barely breathe. The oppressive look she received from them was filled with disgust and disdain. She kept her eyes low, trying to make herself as small as possible.

It wasn't new to her—being looked at like dirt was something she had grown used to. But tonight, it cut deeper. All she wanted was to find her brother and leave.

Her heart raced faster with every second she couldn't find him. His scent, which she could normally track with ease, was drowned out by the overwhelming smell of alphas and their expensive colognes. Panic rose in her throat like bile. Her brother was out there, lost in this sea of predators, and she had no idea where.

Desperation tugged at her every movement as she weaved through the crowd, scanning the room with frantic eyes. She was so distracted by her search that she didn't see the alpha in front of her until it was too late. She stumbled straight into him, knocking a glass of wine from a tray she was barely aware of holding.

The rich red liquid splashed across the alpha's polished black shoes.

Everything seemed to freeze in that moment. Elowen's eyes widened in horror as she stared at the stain spreading across his shoes. Slowly, she raised her gaze, taking in the sight of him.

He was tall—towering over her with broad shoulders and a sharp, aristocratic face. Handsome, in the way most alphas were, with chiseled features and eyes that burned with superiority.

He looked down at his ruined shoes and then at her, his face twisting with anger. "What the fuck is wrong with you?" he snarled, his voice like a whip crack in the air.

Elowen flinched, bowing her head. "I-I'm so sorry," she stammered, her heart hammering in her chest. "I didn't mean to—"

"Shut up," he snapped. His eyes raked over her with undisguised disgust. "Look at you. Filthy little omega, aren't you? Can't even carry a glass of wine without making a mess."

Elowen's face burned with humiliation. She wanted to sink into the floor, to disappear. But all she could do was bow lower, her voice barely above a whisper as she apologized again. "I'm sorry. It won't happen again."

He sneered, taking a step forward. His towering presence made her shrink even more. "Sorry? You think sorry is going to clean my shoes?" He lifted his foot slightly, pointing to the dark stain. "If you're so sorry, why don't you get down on your knees and lick it clean?"

Elowen froze, her breath catching in her throat. Her mind struggled to process his words, the sheer humiliation of the command sending a cold chill through her body. She could feel the eyes of other alphas on her now, watching the spectacle unfold. Some snickered quietly, others just looked away, disinterested in helping.

Before she could even think of a response, a sharp pain exploded across her cheek. Her stepmother had appeared out of nowhere and slapped her so hard that her vision blurred. The sting radiated through her face as she stumbled back, her hand instinctively rising to cover the reddened skin.

"What the hell are you doing here, you worthless brat?" her stepmother spat, her voice dripping with venom. "Embarrassing yourself in front of the guests, are you? Or are you just looking for trouble?"

Elowen swallowed the lump in her throat, her head still spinning from the slap. She opened her mouth to explain, but her stepmother wasn't finished.

"You can't even do one thing right," she sneered. "Do you think anyone here wants to see your pathetic face? You're nothing but a useless, filthy omega. I should've let you rot with your mother."

Elowen felt tears prickling at the corners of her eyes, but she refused to let them fall. Not here, not in front of all these people. "I…I was just looking for my brother," she managed to say, her voice trembling. "He ran inside... I have to find him."

Her stepmother raised her hand to strike her again, but before the blow could land, a firm hand grabbed her wrist. Elowen's father stepped forward, his face drawn in a rare expression of calm authority.

"That's enough," he said, his voice even. He released her stepmother's wrist and turned to Elowen. His gaze was colder than she would've liked, but at least he wasn't lashing out at her like the others.

"What are you doing in here, Elowen?" he asked, his tone quiet.

She lowered her eyes again, feeling the weight of everyone's stares. "I was looking for my brother," she repeated, her voice barely a whisper. "He came inside, and I couldn't find him..."

Her father sighed, running a hand through his graying hair. "Go outside. I'll find him and send him to you. This is not a safe place for Omegas."

Elowen hesitated for a moment, glancing around at the faces surrounding her. They all seemed so indifferent to her suffering, so willing to watch but never help. Her gaze lingered on the alpha whose shoes she had stained. He sneered at her once more, but she knew better than to challenge him.

With a nod, Elowen turned and hurried out of the hall, her heart pounding in her chest.

As she hurried toward the exit, eager to escape the suffocating atmosphere of the party and the judgmental gazes that burned into her back. Just as she reached the doorway, a sudden, loud crash echoed through the hall, followed by a collective gasp from the crowd.

Turning around in alarm, Elowen saw that a large table filled with expensive, elaborately prepared dishes had toppled over. The food spilled across the floor, creating a chaotic mess of fine china, silverware, and gourmet dishes.

In the midst of the disorder, Elowen's brother stood frozen near the wreckage, his face pale with fear. His small hands were covered in food, and he looked around in panic, clearly overwhelmed by the scene he had inadvertently caused.

Before Elowen could react, her stepmother's furious voice cut through the noise. "What did I tell you about causing trouble? Look at this mess!" she screamed.

Elowen quickly ran over to his brother.

Just as her stepmother's hand was poised to strike her brother, a sharp, cold voice cut through the chaos.

"STOP!"

The command was so commanding and chilling that the entire hall seemed to grow colder.

The guests fell silent, their eyes turning toward the source of the voice. Elowen's heart pounded in her chest as she looked up, her gaze locking with a figure standing at the entrance to the hall.
