Chapitre 63: Chapter 63: Three Chances

Flying artillery fire erupted across the battlefield, filling the air with a cacophony of explosions and the acrid scent of smoke and dust. But this time, the Belobog soldiers found themselves grappling with a foe far beyond their usual encounters. The chaos of war paled in comparison to the looming threat overhead.

As they looked up, their eyes widened in horror at the sight of a massive asteroid hurtling toward them. The ground trembled beneath their feet, and the sky darkened, casting ominous shadows over the beleaguered city.

The Silvermane Guard's most advanced weapons stood ready, their sleek designs glinting in the dim light, but they were powerless against the massive rock that loomed ever closer. The soldiers could feel the oppressive weight of inevitability bearing down upon them as they prepared for the impossible.

Compared to this enormous asteroid, Cocolia's mecha seemed insignificant, like a drop in the ocean. The mecha's attempts to alter the asteroid's descent were almost laughable in comparison to the immense power of the Creation Engine.

"There are still about 10,000 meters before the asteroid hits Jarilo-VI," came the report.

The nearly a thousand energy cannons on the ground fired without much precision, each shot chipping away at the star. But the damage was minor compared to the massive size of the moon-sized asteroid.

Gravity began to slow the asteroid's fall. Cocolia knew that Welt must have intervened. With the asteroid's descent slowing and the Silvermane Guard weakening, Cocolia saw a glimmer of hope.

"We must stop it!"

In the cockpit, Cocolia no longer cares about her situation. All she thinks about now is how long her mecha can hold up. Once the asteroid falls, no matter where she hides on Jarilo-VI, she and everyone else will be engulfed in the aftermath. The ecosystem's transformation will be as severe as the ice world created by the stellaron more than 700 years ago.

Just like Asari Rand, who was helpless against the Antimatter Legion's invasion over seven hundred years ago, will her descendants face the same fate in another seven hundred years?

Cocolia feels reluctant, but even if she grits her teeth, it won't make her defense any stronger. She knows it's a lost cause, but as a great guardian, she must stand firm.

"You can't back down in front of the people!"

"Ahhh!"

The energy core of the Creation Engine is slowly going out. Instead, a unique driving force for this planet takes over. With Welt, the Silvermane Guard, and Cocolia's efforts, the asteroid seems to be slowing down a bit.

"?"

It might have been an illusion before she passed out, but Cocolia truly felt as if the asteroid had stopped, just as her own life was slipping away. Her vision blurred, her hands and feet grew cold, her breathing became difficult, and her grip on the guardian's spear weakened. Cocolia knew her end was near.

She doesn't know if it was an illusion, but a vague white-haired man appeared before her. His presence made Cocolia feel a strong sense of familiarity, as if he were someone she had always longed to see.

"Orion, if he hadn't stopped growing taller seven years ago, he might look like this now."

Her lips trembled slightly, and Cocolia wasn't sure if she actually spoke. Just before her eyes closed, she heard a gentle, nostalgic voice say, "You did a great job. Leave the rest to me."

With her eyes closed, Cocolia couldn't see the changes happening around her. The Creation Engine, Cocolia, and the massive asteroid that nearly destroyed the ecosystem had now reached their intended location in space.

In the cold and lifeless Milky Way, stars were scattered randomly across the vast universe like inexplicable toys.

How could a star about to fall to the ground suddenly appear here? Was it a cruel joke by the gods to show the difference between life and death, or some cosmic phenomenon that caused the star to return out of compassion?

"It doesn't matter; I will take action."

As Orion stood in this immense galaxy, he recalled the moment he was brought to life.

What Welt didn't know was that when Orion's soul and body reunited, the "golden light" hidden deep within him, which should have shown its power seven years ago, finally connected with him.

"#%*&…"

A string of incomprehensible symbols, but for some reason, Orion understood their meaning.

"Three Gifts."

The three golden lights represent three chances. Orion Astra can ask questions or request anything he wants. It seems wonderful, but Orion Astra knows that everything comes with a cost.

He paid the price of leaving his world and coming here, and he also paid the price of being visited by the Remembrance Aeon Fuli, who gave him this responsibility. If what he promised goes beyond what was reasonable, then the cost could be extremely high.

This is the cost of the "gifts.".

"I want to know: Who am I?"

"You are Orion Astra, a human and an [Emanator] chosen by the Remembrance Aeon. Your mission is to preserve memories for all things. However, when you are bound to a physical body, you cannot use your true power. If you fail to fulfill your duties, you cannot move forward because you will be violating [&!%#!@#], and you still..."

Orion Astra couldn't hear the rest clearly. Maybe he wasn't supposed to know, or maybe he couldn't understand it fully. But he got two key pieces of information:

First, the fragment given to him by the Remembrance Aeon Fuli confirmed his role as an [Emanator].

Second, if he doesn't fulfill his duties, he won't be able to advance in his path.

Orion crossed his arms and closed his eyes. This answer cleared up many of his doubts.

The word "Emanator" was something he had heard in the background story that Welt explained after boarding the Astral Express.

Even though he knew he had the power from the path of "rememberance," he hadn't taken it seriously. He knew those with the identities of "Emanator" had the power to change the galaxy.

He was confused. Not only did he not know how powerful he was. Even if he had the power to change the galaxy, he felt completely lost and unable to act.

After answering Orion's question, one of the three golden lights vanished instantly, as if it had never existed.

Orion Astra then made his second request. "I need a door—a door that can connect fantasy and reality, the future and imagination, and even let me return to my original world. A door with infinite possibilities."

Orion Astra swallowed nervously. He knew that infinite power came with an infinite price.

He added, "I will fulfill my duties during the journey and preserve memories of all tangible things. The door's use conditions may be limited, but no matter how long it takes, I will definitely return to my original world."

"It's best if the door is two-way," Orion added. He wasn't worried about accumulating debts. If there's a chance, he also wants to use some of the world's power to repay his homeland, although he's unsure if this golden light can do that.

"Come on, golden light. Show me what you can do."

After waiting for over ten seconds, the golden light in front of Orion Astra finally changed. With a whooshing sound, it transformed into a stream of light and appeared in his hand.

It was a meteor mark streaking across the sky. Although there was nothing around it, it flowed endlessly forward.

The moment the mark appeared in Orion Astra's hand, he felt that he could open a door in any direction his thoughts went.

This door could lead to different spaces, dreams, fantasies, or any tangible thing. The "Gate" will build up its mission completion as the Messenger of Memory. Once it reaches a certain level, it will turn into a star. This star can allow Orion Astra to open doors to "other worlds.".

"Finally, I hope..." Taking a deep breath, Orion Astra made his last wish in this hidden spiritual space.
