Turai reappeared in front of Maya, his icy scythe raised high. The sharp, frozen edge glinted dangerously in the dim light, its lethal descent already in motion.

Maya's heart stopped. Her life flashed before her eyes—visions of her younger self, full of dreams, eager to become a famous Wanderer. She saw herself in her future too, standing tall as a renowned figure, everything her younger self had ever wanted. All of it flickered before her in a moment of clarity as she closed her eyes, waiting for the cold slice of Turai's blade to end her life.

"It won't be so bad." She thought as she gave into death's embrace.
