MAURICE POV
Three days after Gregory Mark's death, we laid him to rest. The funeral was a somber event, filled with people from the Salt Lake community and donors of the Will & Marks Foundation who had traveled from across the globe. It was a grand display of sympathy and respect, yet one of the saddest sights I'd ever witnessed. Watching Laurene and Salome, heartbroken and lost, tugged at something deep inside me. I promised myself right then that I'd protect them, better than Gregory ever did.
Eli stood nearby, his face an unreadable mask, though I caught him glancing at Senator Liam and Judge William with that same look I had. I clenched my jaw, frustrated by their fake, self-righteous expressions as they exchanged polite nods with other guests. Under my breath, I muttered, "Why did they even bother coming?"
Creation is hard, cheer me up!
