**New Chapter – Another Strategy Unfolds**
---------------------------------
Dave observed the skeletons positioned around the door and decided it was time to test his plan. He stepped outside and approached an isolated patrol from a safe distance before using a bit of sacred magic.
The skeleton soldiers immediately turned their attention towards him, their jaws dropping open before they started chasing him. "Looks like it worked." Seeing that only three skeleton soldiers were pursuing him, Dave quickly ran into the house and drew his sword.
The first skeleton soldier soon passed through the door and, upon seeing Dave, advanced towards him with its sword in hand. However, a bone club blocked its path.
BAM!
The sound of the impact echoed as the bone club collided with the skeleton's partially broken helmet, knocking the soldier to the ground, where it was immediately attacked by the other skeletons until it was destroyed.
The other two skeleton soldiers entered the house and froze momentarily at the scene before preparing to attack the skeletons that had just finished off their companion. But Dave leaped at them, slicing the head of the next skeleton, which held a shield and dagger, in half.
The last skeleton with the spear couldn't do much as it was surrounded and quickly killed. Moments later, Dave equipped his skeletons with their new gear and took the iron round shield for himself.
He then stepped outside and returned with another group that was quickly killed, and this cycle repeated several times over a few hours before Dave finally stopped to evaluate his gains.

--------------------------------
"Not bad," Dave assessed, realizing he could now convert up to 15 skeletons under his control. It seemed that each skill level up gave him five additional conversion opportunities.
"Maybe having my own army isn't impossible after all," he thought, smiling mentally. He then set out to recruit more skeletons for his force. Soon, a small group of 15 equipped skeletons emerged from the house, drawing the attention of the surrounding patrols.
"Now, formation!" Dave commanded, and the skeletons clumsily formed a simple formation with spear-wielders in the back, shield-bearers in the front, and sword-wielders in the middle.
Seeing that everything was in order, Dave smiled before using his sacred magic. A circle of sacred aura covered his group's feet, immediately illuminating the fog-covered area and attracting the attention of several skeletons, who turned their gaze towards them before charging.
A clash soon ensued between the skeletons, with swords clashing and bones smashing as they inflicted damage on one another.
Slash!
Like a precision machine, Dave cut off the head of a skeleton and quickly returned to formation. When another skeleton beside him was injured, he healed it, and the formation stabilized.
Soon, a wall of iron formed by the skeletons emerged, and the enemy skeleton soldiers were quickly and efficiently killed. When Dave's mana was about to run out, the last skeleton soldier finally fell.
"Phew, that was close," Dave exclaimed, surveying the surroundings. There were at least 35 piles of enemy skeleton bones and three of his own, which had been struck in the head and hadn't had time to react. "Not a bad loss, I suppose," he thought, but a notification pulled him from his thoughts.
(Your subordinate can level up (x4), insufficient mana level. Increase your subordinate's mana level to allow it to evolve.)
"Hoho, now this is interesting," Dave thought as he looked at his subordinates and saw that four of them had a different aura, one of them being Larry, his first skeleton. "So they evolve the same way I do, hmmm."
Dave considered this news good but also worrisome, as it could slow down his own evolution. "I should start converting skeleton soldiers directly next time." With this thought in mind, Dave handed some mana stones to Larry and let him absorb them.
1, 2, 3, 4, 5—When the fifth stone was absorbed, Larry underwent a change that piqued Dave's curiosity.
(Warning: Your subordinate is evolving! Warning: Your subordinate is gaining basic self-awareness.)
Soon, a blue light overflowed from Larry, and Dave watched as the same changes that had happened to him occurred in Larry. He grew slightly and seemed to become stronger.
"So he became a skeleton soldier. It seems I can't choose their evolution, only influence it," Dave surmised, watching Larry move as if testing his new body.
"It also seems that my influence over him has weakened but is still strong. Could it be because he's now a conscious creature?" Dave wondered and decided to observe the changes in the other skeletons.
Soon, all three others evolved, and to Dave's surprise, two became skeleton soldiers, and one became a skeleton priest. Additionally, all of them developed basic self-awareness, reinforcing Dave's idea that self-awareness diminished his control over them.
"Well, I don't think it'll hinder me for now," Dave thought as he absorbed the few remaining mana stones and decided to gather the equipment and plan his next move.
"I cleared a small section of the wall, but I can see more skeleton patrols ahead. There might be a gate somewhere, but I can't even imagine how many thousands of skeletons I'd have to pass through to get through the outer walls."
"First, let's gather resources, upgrade, and scout the city from the outside. It doesn't hurt to play it safe," Dave thought, and after collecting all the skeleton soldiers' equipment, he led his squad back to the city center.
