Chapitre 2: 2

# Beginning of the Chapter

Or of a Grand Tale?

-----------------------------------------------

Dave looked at the Goddess and thought to himself before responding, "It seems I really did die. That slap earlier, though it didn't hurt me, was quite painful. But despite that, I managed to gather some important information." Dave spoke to himself.

His foolish attitude before was actually a scheme to see if he was dreaming or not and also to deduce some of the abilities and personality of the Goddess in front of him.

His first conclusion was simple.

He was dead. His senses couldn't be deceived by any existing technology in the current world, and his mind was extremely clear, as if he had slept the minimum 8 hours of sleep a human body needs to function properly.

His second conclusion was also simple.

The Goddess in front of him couldn't read his mind. If she could read minds, she would have noticed his small test plans and wouldn't have needed to ask him about what games are, as she could just read his mind.

Of course, there's a possibility she's just acting since she is a superior being whom I have little or no knowledge about. This makes any pre-existing conclusion of mine impossible to prove, but it's not like I have too many options now.

And the third conclusion also came quickly.

I was summoned by mistake. I'm probably not the hero this Goddess needs or is looking for, so there's a serious risk she might simply destroy me when she finds out. But at this moment, I'm out of options; it's better to be honest.

Dave wasn't an idiot. He pretended to be one because it's easier to succeed in life that way. When people see you as an idiot, they don't feel envy, resentment, or anger. Although it's not absolute, it's a fact that humans in general lower their guard around people less capable than them and even give them benefits.

"But it wouldn't make sense to play the fool right now; my existence is at stake here after all." Dave thought and resumed his conversation with the Goddess.

---------------------------

"Oh, so you never actually defeated Demon Kings but did so in a game called Diablo." The Goddess stated with a pensive look, and Dave nodded.

"And the time you dueled to the death with your adoptive father over a matter of honor was in a game called Ghost of Tsushima."

"Yes."

"That time you defeated gods from a land of ice was in a game called God of War."

"Yes."

"Even when you saved the world from a villain named Senator Armstrong in an epic battle, it was also in a game."

"Yes, all those events were just in games." Dave confirmed with a serious face, and to his surprise, the Goddess looked at him with a gaze that reminded him of despair.

"Then we have a problem." She said as her lips trembled and she let out a long sigh. Her long rainbow-colored hair quickly changed to darker colors.

"I'm sorry for summoning you here, Mr. Dave. Your achievements resonated in the Abyss through the souls of the dead, so when I learned you had died, I used a large part of my power to bring your soul to my domain, taking you out of the wheel of reincarnation to which you were destined." The Goddess apologized to Dave, making him feel a slight pang in his heart. "She really is a Goddess." Dave thought as he admired the cute figure of the Goddess apologizing to him.

"You don't need to apologize, ma'am. Although I don't know why you need a hero, maybe I can meet the requirements." Dave said confidently, and the Goddess's face brightened a bit.

"Well, it's not like I have much choice. By the way, my name is Juveline. I am the Goddess of Life, Light, and Fertility in the world of Orion." Juveline introduced herself formally, and Dave nodded before continuing to try to fish for more information.

"What is this world of Orion like, and how exactly do you want me to save it?" Dave asked, and Juveline thought for a moment before responding.

"Well, there are many things I unfortunately can't tell you now because it might affect your incarnation. But in summary, Orion is what humans in your world call a super complex magical fantasy world, and the mission I would have assigned to you was to defeat the demons from another dimension that are invading ours." Juveline said while trying her best not to reveal additional information, making the wheels of theories spin in Dave's head, but he didn't take long and went straight to the point.

"So you want me to be born in this world and defeat these demons, right? I can deduce that you and the other gods can't actively interfere in the material world, hence the choice of a champion. I can also deduce that I will have some cheat that will make me overpowered and much stronger than others." Dave said, impressing Juveline with his intelligence and making her exclaim in admiration.

"You are almost entirely correct, although I don't know what cheat is. I will grant you my blessing and will help you during your journey whenever possible, but it will depend on you how strong you can become." Juveline said while raising a finger in warning, and Dave gave a confident smile.

"MUHAHAHAHA." Dave gave a wicked laugh in his mind, "Finally, all that useless knowledge of fantasy worlds and RPGs will serve a purpose. I will become the strongest of all." Dave thought to himself while letting a smile slip on his face, making Juveline once again worry about the character of the hero she was sending.

Little did Dave know that his path to strength would be many times harder and more complicated than that of other living beings.

Clap!

The Goddess clapped her hands and gave Dave a confident smile before speaking, "Anyway, it seems you accept the task, right?"

"Yes, I accept. I have no reason to refuse."

"Very well, then I will send your soul to the world of Orion, but before that, I will grant you my blessing." Juveline said, and at that moment, the aura around her changed, and a calm but warm energy like the heat of the sun began to emanate from her, making Dave feel a mix of emotions all at once.

"I, Juveline, Goddess of Life, Light, and Fertility, grant my blessing to you, Dave, to protect the world!" Juveline's words echoed directly in Dave's soul, and he felt as if Juveline's words entered his soul along with a part of her power. "To accept it, you must state your deepest desire hidden in the depths of your heart. Only then will my blessing be yours!" She declared, and Dave's soul began to float in the air while radiating rays of light.

"Now tell me, my new son, what do you desire most?"

Dave's mind was working like a supercomputer at that moment, thinking of the right answer. "What do I desire most?" In that instant, he thought of countless answers, but none seemed to truly satisfy him.

Wealth? He wasn't particularly attached to money.

Power? Dave always believed that at the top of the strongest, only loneliness remained.

Immortality? Ironically, or because he had already died once, Dave knew that eternity was nothing more than a never-ending book that would eventually lose its meaning.

"So what exactly do I want?" Dave asked himself, but before he could find the answer he wanted, his mouth moved involuntarily.

"I desire to have a family, a wife, children, and to be remembered by them as an example."

Hearing Dave's answer, Juveline gave a smile that warmed the deepest parts of his soul, "That's better. Children should be honest. Now, my new son, live your new life." Juveline said, and Dave felt his consciousness grow heavy at that moment before everything went dark again.
