Kael's eyes lit up when he saw Jacquelyn, but they narrowed with annoyance when she turned away. He pulled his fangs roughly from the witch's neck, separating the head from the body. He tossed the body and head in different directions with a dismissive aura. He strode over to where Jacquelyn was sitting, picking up the golden-yellow berry that had rolled to the gate.

"Little wife?" Kael called to Jacquelyn softly, though there was firmness laced in his tone.

Jacquelyn gripped her dress tightly; she didn't want to look at Kael or really believe what she had just seen. The first day she arrived at the palace, she had accused Kael of having another woman, and right now, she didn't even want to think about it. Her ears burned red, her heart rapidly beating against her chest, making it difficult for her to breathe. Jacquelyn's trembling hands reached for the small bowl beside her. She wished she had not even stepped out to pick fruits.
