Kael narrowed his eyes at Herschel's words, raising his brows with his lips set in a thin line. He moved closer, using his slender fingers to read the words in the book. Though he was surprised by the revelation of not being the first Vampire, what surprised him the most was how he had marked a human to be his own.
"You really need to be careful now, Kael. Look, you're not healing," Herschel continued, pointing at the mark under Kael's eyes while flipping through the pages to check if he missed something.
Kael touched the mark that wasn't healing. It was from the substance the girl had poured on his face earlier. His lips curled. "I won't die, Herschel. I won't die."
Herschel frowned, folding his arms across his chest. He had known Kael to be very stubborn, but this wasn't the time to act proud and mighty because his life was now tied to a mortal.
"Didn't you hear what I-"
