Chapitre 22: U21 League Opener Preparations

The morning sun hung low in the sky as Marcus laced his boots on the training pitch at Motspur Park. The cool air was filled with teammates bantering and the rhythmic thud of balls being kicked. Today was crucial—Fulham U21s were preparing for their league opener against Brighton and Hove Albion's U21 team, and everyone could feel the pressure mounting.

Coach Anderson gathered the team in a semicircle, clipboard in hand. His stern face was a blend of determination and focus, something Marcus had come to respect deeply.

"Alright, lads," Anderson began, his voice carrying across the pitch, "we've got our first league match tomorrow, and I want you all sharp and ready. Brighton has some strong players, but there's one in particular we need to watch out for: Aaron Connolly. He's quick, he's sharp, and he's got an eye for goal. Dan," he pointed to one of the midfielders, "I need you to mark him closely. Don't give him an inch."

Dan nodded, determination set in his eyes. The team knew Connolly's reputation; he'd been making waves in the youth leagues, and neutralizing him would be crucial for their success.

The training session intensified as Coach Anderson put them through various drills—possession exercises, shooting practice, and tactical setups. Marcus felt the familiar rush of adrenaline and focus. He worked on his positioning on the left wing, perfecting his crosses and honing his timing with Harvey, who was training on the right.

After a grueling session, Coach Anderson gathered the team once more. "Remember, it's not just about individual skills. It's about how you play as a unit. Communicate, support each other, and play with heart. Now, get some rest and be ready for tomorrow."

As the team dispersed, Marcus saw Ethan standing by the entrance, waving him over. He quickly gathered his things and jogged over to him.

"Hey, Ethan," Marcus greeted, slightly out of breath.

"Good session today, Marcus," Than said with a smile. "Ready to meet the agent?"

Marcus nodded, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. They made their way to a nearby café, where the agent was waiting. The café was quaint and bustling, a comforting hum of activity that helped settle Marcus's nerves.

They walked in, and Ethan spotted the agent sitting at a corner table, a professional-looking man in his late forties with a warm, approachable demeanor. He stood up as they approached, extending a hand.

"Marcus, it's great to finally meet you. I'm Paul Roberts," the agent introduced himself with a firm handshake.

"Nice to meet you, Mr. Roberts," Marcus replied, feeling a surge of hope.

They sat down, and Paul wasted no time getting to the point. "I've been following your progress, Marcus. You've got a lot of potential. I'd like to help you navigate the next steps in your career, from contract negotiations to securing endorsements and making sure you get the best opportunities to develop and showcase your talent."

Marcus listened intently as Paul outlined his plan. It was clear, strategic, and exactly what Marcus needed to hear. The conversation flowed easily, and by the end, Marcus felt a sense of clarity and purpose.

Leaving the café, Marcus turned to Ethan. "Thanks for setting this up. I feel a lot better about things now."

Ethan smiled, clapping a hand on Marcus's shoulder. "You're going to do great, Marcus. Just keep working hard and stay focused."

As they made their way back, Marcus's mind was buzzing with thoughts of tomorrow's match and the promising future ahead. He knew the road would be tough, but with the right support and determination, he was ready to face whatever came his way.

That night, as he lay in bed, Marcus thought about his journey so far. From the small-town pitches to the cusp of professional football, he had come a long way. Tomorrow's match was just another step towards his dream. He closed his eyes, envisioning the roar of the crowd and the thrill of the game, ready to give his all on the field.
