Chapitre 46: Chapter 46: "Gate of Hell"

This group of thirty-six armed personnel, lacking UDF mechanical exoskeletons, was the third combat platoon of the Hunter Company.

However, among these hunters, six were equipped with heavy armor and wielded .50 caliber heavy machine guns with surprising agility and flexibility, completely unaffected by the weight.

Arriving at the fence, they placed plastic explosives, retreated to a safe distance, and after a ten-second wait...

Boom!!

With a gap blown open in the fence, the assault officially commenced.

The hunters passed through the breach one by one, splitting into teams of six and heading toward their designated areas.

The six heavily armored soldiers were divided among the teams, charging to the front to break through enemy lines.

On the other side, the RDA organization, caught in internal strife...

"You bastards! What are you doing?! Are you crazy?"

"Damn! I knew those blue creatures weren't reliable!"

In the maintenance workshop, several RDA mercenaries were cornered, suppressed by gunfire from Avatars, each about three meters tall and wielding machine guns.

Although the Avatar pilots, except for Jack Sully, were civilians without military training, the enhanced senses and strength provided by the Avatars made handling the recoil of .30 caliber machine guns as easy as using air rifles or BB guns for humans.

Moreover, a few mercenaries had also defected, providing assistance and guidance, catching the RDA mercenaries off guard and leading to their gradual defeat within the base.

"Lieutenant, I really regret coming here. I just... just wanted to earn more... more money for my wife and kids..."

A mercenary, sitting weakly against the wall with a missing left forearm, looked bloodied and exhausted, unable to stop the bleeding.

Eventually, his eyes dulled, his head tilted, and his body slid down the wall, motionless on the ground.

"Damn it! Damn it!!"

Watching his comrade's life fade away, the lieutenant in charge of the mercenaries punched the ground in frustration and then urgently shouted into his communicator, "Colonel! This is the Gate of Hell! We need support! We need support! Those scientific maniacs have rebelled!"

"Zzz..."

Unfortunately, the magnetic interference from the Na'vi sanctuary caused only static noise in the response.

"Lieutenant... should we... surrender?" a mercenary with an empty modular rifle magazine suggested tremulously.

"Surrender?!" Upon hearing this cowardly suggestion, a burly mercenary grabbed the coward by the collar and pressed him against their fallen comrade's body, angrily shouting:

"Fuck! What are you talking about?! Horton was killed by them, killed! Those ungrateful bastards, without our protection services, they would've been devoured by the rainforest long ago!

Protecting nature, protecting life, is this how they protect? By killing?!"

"So what do you suggest we do?! And why are you yelling at me! It was them who killed Horton, not me!" the coward retorted indignantly.

"Enough!" The lieutenant picked up a shotgun, loaded a few shells, and gritted his teeth, saying, "Although we are no longer marines, but security, mercenaries, the fact that they killed our comrades without hesitation is something we cannot tolerate! Understood?!"

"Yes, Lieutenant!" the burly man was the first to respond.

The cowardly mercenary merely nodded.

"Rat-tat-tat!"

But just as the RDA mercenaries were divided over surrendering or fighting to the death, a series of rhythmic shots and rapid fire suddenly echoed from the workshop entrance, clearly the actions of combat-trained personnel.

The defectors, composed of Avatars and scientists, ceased their suppressive fire on the mercenaries' corner.

Could it be reinforcements?

Guessing this possibility, the lieutenant immediately peeked out to observe.

His guess was confirmed.

The arriving support fireteam caught the defectors off guard, killing two of the most threatening Avatars in the first volley.

The defectors, realizing they were now being attacked from behind, panicked. One of the defecting mercenaries quickly found cover, trying to eliminate the most threatening "RDA reinforcements" equipped with .50cal machine guns and heavy armor.

"Rat-tat-tat!"

But after quickly firing over ten shots at the armored soldier's chest, the defector was shocked, exclaiming, "This... this can't be?!"

In his view, the armored soldier, hit by 6.2x35mm armor-piercing rounds, merely staggered slightly before aiming back at him and then...

Boom! Boom!

The .50cal tore through the defector and his cover.

"Well done! Hahaha!"

"Provide cover for our guys!"

Seeing this, the lieutenant and the remaining RDA mercenaries immediately rushed out, spreading out to support the frontal attack fireteam, trapping the defectors in a crossfire.

The Avatars became the primary focus for both the RDA mercenaries and the fireteam. The Avatar pilots, being untrained civilians, panicked under the encirclement.

As for the defecting scientists?

They lacked accuracy and courage, useful in favorable conditions but a hindrance when disadvantaged. If they didn't mess up, it was already a lot.

With coordinated efforts, the fireteam and the surviving mercenaries cleared all defectors from the workshop.

"Phew~!" The burly mercenary whistled, raising his squad automatic weapon to the fireteam, laughing heartily, "Hahaha! Thanks for the rescue! Drinks are on me when we get back, but your equipment feels... hey! What is this?!"

Before he could finish, the fireteam, or rather the Hunter team, had already taken advantageous positions, aiming their weapons at the surviving mercenaries.

Then, a Hunter sergeant spoke up, "We're all humans, no need for infighting. You can lay down your weapons and accept temporary captivity. Once we take over this base, you'll be well-treated, and might even return to your old jobs with better pay and benefits.

But you can also choose to resist. As for the outcome... you should all understand."

The RDA mercenaries, low on ammo and exhausted, were in no state for combat. The lieutenant, aware of this, didn't want unnecessary sacrifices and was the first to drop his weapon, raising his hands and saying:

"Everyone, drop your guns."

"Ah..." The burly man, though reluctant, complied.

Similar scenes unfolded elsewhere. With the assistance of the six "heavy armor" reconstituted soldiers, the hunters took control of the Gate of Hell within ten minutes.
