Chapter 4: Gringotts

Soon after finishing her conversation with Ethan's parents, Professor McGonagall turned her attention back to Ethan.

Professor McGonagall completed today's task of picking up Ethan smoothly. Unlike other parents who bombarded her with strange questions, the Adrians mainly inquired about Hogwarts' learning environment and rules.

"It's normal not to fully grasp Transfiguration before receiving formal training. Once you're at Hogwarts, you can delve deeper into these matters. If you still have questions, feel free to approach me," Professor McGonagall reassured Ethan, noticing his contemplative state while stroking the cat.

"Thank you, Professor McGonagall!" Ethan smiled as he set the cat down.

"It's all part of the job," Professor McGonagall replied casually, waving her wand. The eight cats—seven small and one large—floated in the air briefly before transforming back into a fruit plate with apples. The sofa, scratched during the cats' antics, returned to its original state.

After restoring everything, Professor McGonagall stood up and addressed Ethan, "Mr. and Mrs. Adrian, it's time to head to Diagon Alley for school supplies."

Philemon pulled out a stack of pounds and escorted Professor McGonagall and Ian to the door along with Nitia. They felt reassured about Professor McGonagall's intentions after her informative discussion.

Regarding Diagon Alley, Professor McGonagall emphasized the need to minimize interactions with Muggles. Forcing such contact could lead to unfavorable outcomes in the wizarding world.

"Take my hand now and don't let go. We'll Apparate to the outskirts of Diagon Alley. It might feel a bit uncomfortable," Professor McGonagall instructed in the courtyard.

Ethan nodded after taking a deep breath. "I'm ready, Professor McGonagall!"

As Ethan anticipated, the Apparition caused a sensation akin to oxygen deprivation and body compression.

*Pop!*

*Pop!*

Accompanied by the distinctive sound of Apparition, Ethan and Professor McGonagall materialized abruptly in front of a dilapidated small pub in a London neighborhood.

Ethan struggled briefly with breathing but soon recovered. "I'm fine now. Landing was a bit unsettling, but I'm better."

"Are you alright, Mr. Adrian?" Professor McGonagall inquired.

"Yes, just a bit shaken from the landing, but I'm alright now," Ethan reassured her, fully recovered.

"Apparition is a mode of wizard transportation taught in sixth year. It requires private study and evaluation by the Department of Magical Transportation. It's highly dangerous," Professor McGonagall explained.

"The Leaky Cauldron, visible only to wizards, serves as the entrance to Diagon Alley. Remember the address. You'll need to come here alone for second-year school supplies," she added as they entered the pub.

Inside, devoid of customers due to the early hour, a stooped man was wiping tables.

"Good morning, Professor McGonagall. Guiding new students again today, I see!" the man greeted casually upon their arrival.

"Good morning, Tom," Professor McGonagall replied as she led Ethan further inside.

Ethan, passing by, pondered why the man continued to wipe the table despite having a cleaning spell—clearly not a Squib.

Crossing through the pub's rear, they arrived at a courtyard with weeds and trash cans against the wall.

Halting before a trash can, Professor McGonagall turned to Ethan. "Mr. Adrian, remember this. Count three bricks up and two across."

With her wand, Professor McGonagall tapped the specified brick three times. Instantly, the bricks rearranged themselves into an archway, revealing the magical world beyond—cobblestone streets, crooked houses, and robed figures bustling about.

"Let's go exchange some Galleons, the wizarding currency," Professor McGonagall instructed, a seasoned guide after years of experience.

After exchanging currency, acquiring a wand took precedence due to urgent need—a frequent request from eager young wizards.

Under Professor McGonagall's guidance, Ethan soon arrived at the entrance of Gringotts.

Beyond the first bronze door, a warning on the second silver-white door caught Ethan's attention.

"Professor McGonagall, how may I assist you?" greeted a suited goblin upon their entry into the grand hall.

As Hogwarts' Deputy Headmistress, McGonagall commanded respect in the British wizarding world—a wealth of interest to goblins.

"We're here to exchange currency for a new student," Professor McGonagall replied, indicating Ethan.

"Right this way," the goblin directed them to an unoccupied counter on the right.

Five pounds for one gold Galleon, with a maximum exchange of one hundred Galleons. According to Professor McGonagall, a hundred Galleons, if spent frugally, would suffice, with some surplus—Hogwarts offered limited spending opportunities.
