Sharlo never expected that Zephyr, known as Black Arm, would rise to fame partly thanks to him. The Navy capitalized on the opportunity to celebrate this rare victory after being suppressed by the Rocks Pirates in the New World for nearly a year. They broadcasted the news far and wide: Vice Admiral Zephyr pursued the Blood Sword Hero Sharlo, captain of the Rocks Pirates' eighth division.
When Sharlo saw the newspaper, he was furious, especially since all the Rocks commanders mocked him. Some lower-ranked crew members joined in the ridicule, but those who laughed within Sharlo's Observation Haki range soon found themselves cut down by his sword aura. This brutal response only amplified his infamy as the Blood Sword Hero.
After that chase, the Marines recalled their forces to Marine Headquarters, including Garp, Sengoku, and Zephyr. Their retreat bolstered Sharlo's confidence, prompting him to launch new attacks the very next day. Sharlo's raids were relentless; no pirate could withstand him for more than a single move. He even conducted occasional plundering missions on land.
Sharlo wasn't indiscriminate in his killings. The pirates he targeted were known slavers and killers, identified by their heinous deeds through information provided by Rocks' informant, Shaki. These individuals were as bloodstained as Sharlo himself.
Sharlo's actions soon provoked retaliation. The Marine Headquarters deployed Zephyr once again. Sharlo's relentless attacks on slave ships had led to a slave shortage in the Holy Land of Mariejois, angering numerous Celestial Dragons. The World Government, under pressure, tasked the Navy with resolving the issue.
Two years after their initial confrontation, Sharlo and Zephyr clashed once more. This time, Sharlo didn't run. To him, escaping wasn't shameful—it was tactical. However, Sharlo needed Zephyr to be his whetstone, honing his skills. Over a year of fierce battles at sea, combined with Rocks' teachings on Haki and swordsmanship, had transformed Sharlo.
Rocks had provided Sharlo with extensive support, including advanced techniques of the Navy's Six Powers, and the secret of Life Return. This drastically enhanced Sharlo's physical prowess. Already proficient in the Six Powers, Sharlo mastered Life Return and the Six King Gun technique with exceptional speed.
Now, in the Sea Calendar Year 1483, June, on a deserted island beach, Sharlo faced Zephyr.
"Zephyr! Long time no see. You've come!" Sharlo greeted with a grin, eyes alight with anticipation for the battle.
"Pirate Sharlo, in the name of justice, I will arrest you!" Zephyr declared, casting off his justice cloak as advanced Armament Haki enveloped his body.
Sharlo smirked, drawing his sword and pointing it at Zephyr. "Then let's begin!"
Sharlo's Conqueror's Haki surged, sending a hundred-meter-long flying slash towards Zephyr.
"Pirate Sharlo, die! Black Arm: Serpent!" Zephyr's fists turned pitch black, hardened with Haki to the extreme, as he punched through Sharlo's flying slash.
Boom! The clash shook the entire island, dust and sand swirling into the air.
"Big news! Big news!" Morgans observed the intense battle from above.
"A Vice Admiral fighting a Rocks Pirates division captain—this will shake the world!" With his exclamation, his news birds spread the story across the seas.
Sharlo had arranged for Morgans to witness this battle. After the previous humiliation, he vowed to redeem himself, specifically contacting Morgans.
On Beehive Island, Rocks punched his desk in frustration. "Everyone, assemble! Head to the Ed War Sea!"
At Rocks' command, all pirates mobilized, including the seven other commanders.
"Ji ha ha ha! This kid sure knows how to make headlines," Golden Lion Shiki laughed beside Rocks.
"Gu ra ra ra! The kid's got guts!" Whitebeard Edward Newgate added, taking a swig from his jug.
Using Shiki's power, numerous pirate ships lifted off, guided towards the Ed War Sea by Shaki.
At Marine Headquarters, alarms blared urgently. Every Marine boarded their ships, led by Admiral Kong, with Garp and Sengoku in tow.
"Our mission: rescue Zephyr in the Ed War Sea!" Kong commanded as their fleet set sail to the New World.
The battle between Sharlo and Zephyr exceeded all expectations. Sharlo sought to test his training results with Zephyr as his opponent, while Zephyr aimed to capture Sharlo and bring him to Impel Down. Neither foresaw the massive conflict this would incite between pirates and Marines.
"Hahahahaha! Zephyr, are your punches getting weaker?" Sharlo taunted, his face bloody but defiant. Despite his worse injuries, he mocked Zephyr, who was protecting his head with bleeding lips.
Sharlo's sword had shattered, a mere above-average blade compared to legendary swords. Zephyr initially celebrated the break, believing a swordsman without a sword was no longer a threat. However, he soon realized that Sharlo's strength didn't wane; instead, it grew.
Unbeknownst to Zephyr, Sharlo's martial arts skills were his true strength. A former mercenary, Sharlo had trained extensively in various combat techniques. In this new world, those skills became his most valuable assets.
As Sharlo's relentless punches rained down, Zephyr fought desperately to defend himself.
