Chapitre 19: Chapter 19: The Eighth Division Captain
Under the threatening gaze of Rocks D. Xebec, Sharlo reluctantly agreed to join. He had no desire to die.
"Hahahaha! Welcome aboard, Sharlo!" Rocks exclaimed with a satisfied smile. Sharlo nodded in acknowledgment.
Edward Newgate watched without expression, while Shiki, the Golden Lion, smoked a cigar, enjoying the spectacle. Charlotte Linlin indulged in her cake, and Kaido, standing behind her, stared at Sharlo with a blank expression.
Sharlo surveyed his surroundings and quietly stepped aside. Rocks nodded approvingly and leaped down from the ship.
"This is a beautiful and bustling port," Rocks D. Xebec remarked as he surveyed the small port before him. Sharlo tensed up.
"Captain Rocks, could you please spare this island since I've joined?" Sharlo hesitantly asked. Rocks turned to Sharlo, towering over him at three meters tall, and smiled broadly.
"Of course, this is your homeland," Rocks said, patting Sharlo on the shoulder. "However, while I won't harm the island, my crew might not be so restrained. You'll have to show them your strength."
Rocks glanced at the pirates disembarking from the ten ships. Their eyes gleamed with greed as they eyed the bustling port and the peaceful town beyond.
Sharlo turned to look at the eager pirates behind Rocks. "Do you want them dead or alive?" he asked Rocks.
Rocks raised an eyebrow. "That's up to you, my dear crew member," he replied nonchalantly.
Understanding the implication, Sharlo drew his sword and approached the pirates disembarking from the nine remaining ships. "If you want to plunder, survive my sword," he challenged coldly.
Rocks and his officers stood aside, ready to enjoy the show. "Jihahahaha! Newgate, I bet this kid will finish them off in half an hour!" Shiki taunted, puffing on his cigar. Newgate ignored him, knowing that Shiki feared only Rocks and himself on this ship.
Enraged by Sharlo's challenge, the leading pirate, brandishing a large club, shouted, "Who do you think you are? Brothers, charge! Take the money and women!" The pirates roared in agreement, drawing their weapons and charging at Sharlo.
Pirates armed with flintlock pistols fired at Sharlo, but he effortlessly dodged the bullets, his Observation Haki guiding him. The bullets, however, continued their trajectory towards Rocks and his officers.
"This kid did that on purpose," Shiki noted, slightly shifting his head. Newgate nonchalantly punched the air, shattering the incoming bullets into powder. Linlin and Kaido stood still, letting the bullets bounce harmlessly off their bodies.
"Monsters, the both of them," Shiki muttered enviously. He glanced at Sharlo, who had begun his assault. Sharlo's swordsmanship was relentless, each slash imbued with Armament Haki, creating powerful flying slashes that tore through the ranks of the attacking pirates. None could approach within ten meters of him.
Pirate bodies were strewn everywhere, and the scene of carnage seemed to invigorate Sharlo, his sword swinging faster and faster. The sheer speed made it difficult to follow his movements without using Observation Haki.
"No! I don't want treasure or women anymore!" one pirate finally broke under the onslaught, discarding his weapon and attempting to flee back to the ship. However, Sharlo's thirty-meter flying slash easily cut down the retreating pirates.
"This kid is ruthless, killing even those who surrender," Newgate frowned, disliking such brutality. No one responded to him. Rocks, however, was smiling broadly, Shiki smoked nonchalantly, Linlin continued eating her cake, and Kaido silently observed.
Newgate sighed, questioning his decision to join this crew. He had only wanted a family.
Sharlo quickly dispatched all the pirates on the dock, leaving behind a mountain of corpses. At least three to four hundred pirates lay dead. Those remaining on the ships watched in terrified silence.
Sharlo's control was impressive; none of his nearly hundred slashes hit the ships, landing just a meter away. After the massacre, Sharlo sheathed his sword and walked over to Rocks, who could not contain his smile.
Grasping Sharlo's right hand, Rocks addressed the crew, "I declare that Rockefeller Sharlo is now the Eighth Division Captain of the Rocks Pirates and one of our officers!"
