Chapter 2: The Gnomes

Dipper's POV

A few days have passed since my arrival at the Mystery Shack.

So far, nothing strange has happened besides me securing Ford's dangerous objects scattered around the house. As a bonus, I managed to get my own room.

I didn't want to lose my body because of a stupid carpet or another dumb accident with Ford's dangerous items.

"Dipper, go clean over there," Stan says nonchalantly while counting his green bills. I'd really like to report him to child protective services, but it would be stupid to separate myself from him.

He's one of the few people who knows the true nature of Gravity Falls and manages to maintain a minimum of sanity without going crazy or getting stuck in another dimension.

"Hey you, yes I'm talking to you," Mabel whispers from behind a pillar next to an unknown boy, probably a potential customer.

"Mabel, I know you're in 'find a boyfriend' mode, but can't you help me with the chores too?" I say in a clearly annoyed tone.

Since my arrival at the Mystery Shack, I haven't had much time for myself and the search for Journal number 3.

I had to get to know Uncle Stan's employees, aka Soos and Wendy, but also complete the tasks assigned to me. Mabel's inactivity in her work didn't help either.

"Haa, Dipper, it's summer, I remind you," she says as if it wasn't already obvious.

"Yeah, so what? I don't see how that relates to the chores," I say, rolling my eyes.

Although I appreciate Mabel when watching the series, living with her is another story.

She reminds me of one of my exes who always liked to impose her point of view and always be right, in short, torture.

"You really don't understand anything, Dipper," she says with a sigh before coming closer and wrapping her arm around my neck.

"It's the perfect time to get a boyfriend or make new friends," she declares with a smile as if it were obvious.

"If you say so, you're right, but at least help me with this," I say, pointing to the muddy footprints of customers on the floor.

"Uh... I think I forgot something," she says in a clear attempt to escape, but I knew she'd try to pull this trick on me again.

"No, no, you're not running away this time," I say, grabbing her shoulder.

"Listen up everyone, I'm looking for someone to hang this thing in the weirdly scary part of the forest," Stan announces with a wooden sign. I was so caught up with Mabel that I hadn't noticed him.

"Yes, you're right Dipper, the floor is really dirty," Mabel says, snatching the cleaning tools from my hands before walking away with a triumphant smile.

Everyone suddenly seemed busy around me, but it didn't matter. I had been waiting for this day since my arrival here.

I had already searched for Journal number 3 on my own, but strangely, I couldn't find it despite my knowledge of Gravity Falls, and the lack of personal time didn't help.

"Okay, I'll do it," I say, pretending to grumble.

"Way to go, champ," Stan declares cheerfully.

He gave me a little pat on the shoulder before handing me the tools to hang the "Mystery Shack" direction signs in the forest.

...

"Nope, not here either," I mutter, hammering a nail into the tree.

*ding* metal sound

"This is the one," I say excitedly, looking at the fake tree.

I started tapping it lightly and scratching the surface to finally reveal the console that would help me obtain Journal number 3.

Luckily my knowledge is still valid, I was able to reveal the trapdoor that holds Journal number 3.

With this at my disposal, things will be easier in Gravity Falls, but I still need to be careful.

I hurried to finish the task given by Uncle Stan before returning. I already wanted to exploit the knowledge contained in the journal, but it would be reckless to venture into this forest without proper equipment.

"I don't have to rush, with this and the abilities related to Vegapunk, this universe can be managed," I mutter while walking towards the Mystery Shack.

My only real concern is a certain triangle, but that's future Dipper's problem, not mine.

"I present to you my official boyfriend, Norman," Mabel declares shortly after my return.

"Shit," I say simply, looking at the spectacle in front of me.

"Damn, no swearing in front of me... I just mean no swearing ," Stan says next to me.

« 5/5 » I replied to him.

...

"Mabel, don't you find Norman weird?" I ask Mabel in private.

I had just separated her from Norman using the excuse of a private family conversation.

"Dipper, I'm currently on a date with Norman, can we have this conversation after that?" Mabel declares, quickly leaving without looking back.

I still wonder how Dipper managed to put up with this for all these years, she never lets me fully explain things to her.

After my unsuccessful "conversation" with Mabel, I started preparing to deal with the gnomes.

"Hey Soos, could you help me buy a special pig whistle?" I say, describing Gideon's whistles. I don't know the town or the Mystery Shack well yet, so I had to turn to someone with that knowledge.

"Sure thing, dude. I think I've seen some around, but if not, I can look for one in a store," he says, thinking. He must be wondering where he can get the whistle.

After his return, I'll be able to deal with Norman calmly, and I should also inform Mabel about the situation regarding this town.

There are just too many anomalies to hide from Mabel, and it could become dangerous later if she remains ignorant.

I ended up waiting for Norman and Mabel to return to the Mystery Shack, and frankly, I was strangely impatient to deal with Norman.

The reason is simple, I wanted to see Mabel's face after she discovered that her boyfriend is a bunch of pedophile garden gnomes.

"Haha, you're really funny, Norman," Mabel's voice echoes outside.

It's time to face the first abnormal creature I've personally seen since my "reincarnation" in this body.

"Hey Mabel, looks like you had a good time with Norman," I say to her, smiling.

"Yeah, Norman was great," she says, nudging Norman.

At that moment, I turned my attention to my pseudo "future brother-in-law" temporary.

"Okay, Norman, you'd better tell Mabel the truth about your nature now, or else..." I say in a threatening tone that didn't match my current age or the original Dipper.

"I... I don't know... what you're talking about," Norman says with difficulty for an unknown reason.

"Dipper, what's gotten into you?" Mabel says, trying to pull me away. I could see that she seemed upset or embarrassed.

"I warned you," I say to Norman while Mabel continues trying to pull me away.

I took out the whistle that Soos had found for me and blew into it as hard as I could.

"Aah!" Norman screamed before dispersing into several little men dressed like garden gnomes.

"See, I wasn't lying," I say, looking at her with the famous "I told you so" eyes.
