Ryoma was initially surprised how he couldn't find Yami once he used his transparent escape, but he quickly regained his composure. He was special Jonin trained by the root since young age. If he couldn't handle a mere Civilian Genin then he should just suicide.

"Your mastery over Transparent escape is certainly impressive." Ryoma praised with an expressionless face. "However, no matter how hard you struggle, it will be in vain. The insects I sent to the ground can provide me with information through the vibrations on the surface. As long as you start moving your body—just like you did just now!"

"What!?"

Hearing this, Yami quickly looked at the field at his feet and found bugs swarming on the ground nearby. And He was right in the middle of their encirclement.

"You have nowhere to run."

Ryoma stretched out his arms, and a large number of flying insects rushed out from his sleeves.

Yami, who was surrounded by insects, had now emerged from his invisible state.

"What on earth are you going to do? I already said I'd give up!"

Surrounded by insects, Yami could only shout with all his might, hoping to attract the attention of the Jonin examiners in the stands. Even if it's just Minato if someone else intervenes...

"It's useless. The center of the venue is quite a distance from the stands. Your voice is not loud enough to reach them. Besides, my bugs have already formed a barrier around you."

Ryoma finally locked onto the location of the Genin.

"All I have to do now is let the swarm of insects 'uncontrollably' bite you to death, and my mission will be over."

Looking at Yami, who was surrounded by the swarm of insects and had no chance of escaping, Ryoma's face showed still no emotion.

"As for your question, I'm sorry, but the dead don't need to know so much."

---

"What kind of strange Jutsu is that that can make one disappear?"

"I didn't expect him to persist for so long?"

"But in the end, he still lost, that's all."

"How boring. Let's go. Genin is still Genin after all."

"He only endured it for a few minutes longer. Wait, I wonder if he was bitten to death by bugs, hahaha..."

After seeing Yami in the center of the field that had been covered with large black insects, Maru and his group in the stands finally started laughing again.

"Is this the end?" Kakashi, who was also in the stands, couldn't help but feel a little disappointed. No, why should he be disappointed? He never expected anything from the start.

"No, not yet."

Minato, who had been paying attention to the venue, had a serious look on his face. His brows gradually furrowed. Although he didn't know what went wrong on the field, the actions of both Ryoma and Yami were a bit strange.

What did Yami say when he raised his hand just now? Judging from the lip movements, does it mean 'abstain'? If that's the case, then why didn't Ryoma stop... Was it because he figured out that Yami was using a substitution technique that he didn't stop? But that amount of chakra usage doesn't look like he can see through the substitution jutsu.

"Substitute?"

With a "puff" sound, Yami, who was surrounded by the swarm of insects, turned into a wooden stake in a burst of white smoke. Kakashi's eyes lit up again.

"Well, it seems that he has already prepared to use the substitution technique during the period when he was in hiding."

The substitution technique wasn't omnipotent. After all, it is just a low-level ninjutsu. You must prepare in advance before using it. That's why it's rarely used in an ever-changing battle. But once you have enough time to prepare, this inconspicuous technique can play a huge role.

"Sensei, what kind of Jutsu is Yami using? it made him disappear completely?"

It was the first time that Rin had seen this strange secret technique.

"It should be 'Transparent Release,' a Jutsu that can conceal one's aura and make the whole body transparent. I have seen Jiraiya-sensei use it before."

Although Jiraiya's purpose of using the Transparent Release was… very improper. Thinking of his lecherous teacher, Minato couldn't help but smile.

"Besides, it seems that he uses 'Transparent Release' better than Jiraiya-sensei."

Shaking his head, Minato refocused on the battle. It was the first time he saw this kind of "useless" ninjutsu used so skillfully.

"Better than the Sannin? Sensei, are you for real?" Rin couldn't help but feel shocked.

"Normally, the Transparent Release is very easy to be detected by a sensory ninja, but Yami hid very well."

Minato was very impressed by Yami's ability to develop the Jutsu into something this strong.

"I see. Since even you said so, then Yami was probably able to survive the missions alone because of this secret technique," Rin suddenly realized.

"It still won't work." Kakashi who was silently listening couldn't help but inject. "He doesn't have an effective means of attack. Even if the secret technique is very useful, he will still lose once his chakra is exhausted..."

Kakashi, who had been observing the situation on the field, once again concluded Yami's fate. But soon, he was startled by the next scene.

---

"Substitution Jutsu?" Ryoma's eyes narrowed when he saw the bugs biting a wooden stake.

Suddenly he heard the sound of something whistling through the air behind him—three shurikens shot toward him at tricky angles!

Ding ding ding!

Ryoma quickly took out a kunai from his pouch and knocked all three of them down.

"Hmph, even if you use the Substitution Jutsu to escape, it's useless. My insects are everywhere. You can't hide!"

Secret Technique: Insect Jade!

'Unless this guy can move instantly from the test site to outside the site, there is no way he can escape my current perception.'

After a brief surprise, Ryoma once again took the initiative to attack. Although Yami had been invisible and flickered very quickly, he had nowhere to hide as he was surrounded by the swarm of insects. Every time he landed, the bugs would fly over to him as if they were following the scent.

"Come to think of it, your chakra is really weak. My insects said that the chakra from your substitution Jutsu tastes quite bad, and they have already started to protest to me." Ryoma taunted, trying to get on Yami's nerves.

'Although this guy's performance using the Transparent Release was very different from what was described in the information, it was true that his chakra was scarce.' It was the first time that Ryoma's insect encountered such weak and difficult-to-swallow chakra.

"Then you should make them stop."

'Really, those jonin in the stands are just watching the show. I thought if someone intervened, we wouldn't have to go through so much trouble now. But in this case, we can only find a way to deal with this lackey of Danzo.' Yato thought, glancing at his opponent.

Cancelling his invisibility, Yami ran straight toward Ryoma.

"Oh, you finally stopped hiding?"

Seeing Yami being chased by his own swarm of insects and now having to actively attack him, Ryoma smiled slightly. This time, this Genin could no longer escape.

"It's too late to try to fight me in taijutsu now."

Ryoma took out a kunai and held it in front of him, preparing to deal with Yami who was rushing towards him.

"You can never know the results if you don't try?"

Instead of using a kunai, Yami pulled a short sword from his back. Since he couldn't use offensive ninjutsu without consuming a large amount of Chakra, this sword was the only means of attack he could use.

As Yami closed the distance, he channeled his chakra into his legs, increasing his speed dramatically. Ryoma's insects swarmed closer, but Yami's rapid movements made it difficult for them to latch on effectively.

"You're fast," Ryoma noted, tightening his grip on the kunai. "But not fast enough."

Just as Ryoma was about to engage Yami with his kunai, Yami performed an unexpected feint. He swiftly shifted his body to the left, narrowly avoiding Ryoma's counterattack. Using the momentum, Yami swung his short sword in a low arc aiming at Ryoma's legs.

Ryoma barely managed to block the strike with his kunai, but the force of the impact pushed him back a few steps. He could feel the vibrations of the clash resonating through his arms.

Not giving Ryoma a moment to regroup, Yami launched a series of rapid slashes and thrusts with his short sword. Each movement pushed Ryoma to remain on the defensive.

Meanwhile, Ryoma's insects started to reform their encirclement, but Yami's relentless assault prevented them from closing in effectively. Ryoma realized that Yami's close-quarters combat skills were far superior to what he had anticipated.

"I see now," Ryoma said, parrying another strike. "You're not just a one-trick pony."

Yami didn't respond verbally. Instead, he focused all his energy on maintaining the pressure. His chakra reserves were dwindling, and this all-out attack was his last gambit.

Suddenly, Yami spotted an opening. Channeling his chakra into his sword, Yami aimed for Ryoma's midsection.

But just as his blade was about to make contact, Ryoma executed a swift backflip, narrowly avoiding the lethal blow. In mid-air, Ryoma made a series of rapid hand signs.

"Secret Technique: Insect Sphere!"

A large swarm of insects erupted from Ryoma's body, forming a dense sphere around him. The insects created a barrier that Yami's sword couldn't penetrate.

Yami gritted his teeth, realizing that his attack had been thwarted. He was running out of time and options.

"Impressive," Ryoma said from within the insect sphere. "But this is the end."

The sphere of insects began to expand, pushing Yami back. The force was overwhelming, and Yami struggled to maintain his footing.

Thinking quickly, Yami performed another substitution jutsu. In a puff of smoke, he switched places with a nearby rock, narrowly avoiding being engulfed by the insect swarm.

Appearing a few meters away, Yami fell to one knee, panting heavily. His chakra was nearly depleted, and he was on the brink of exhaustion.

Ryoma, emerging from the sphere, looked at Yami. "You've fought well, but it's over now."

'huh, you think I'll just accept death after everything I have been through.'

As Ryoma advanced, Yami reached into his pouch and pulled out a small, spherical object before He hurled it toward Ryoma.

Ryoma instinctively raised his arms to shield himself, but the object wasn't a weapon—it was a smoke bomb. It exploded on impact, enveloping the area in a thick, obscuring cloud.

"It's useless. Even if I can't see you, my insects can still locate you."

Ryoma's calm voice cut through the smoke. He directed his insects to swarm through the cloud, pinpointing Yami's location. His eyes gleamed with killing intent.

As Ryoma's insects closed in, Yami's figure emerged from the smoke, sprinting towards him. Their weapons clashed, but instead of the expected sound, Yami's sword shattered at the first touch, and his figure dissipated into smoke.

"Shadow clone?" Ryoma muttered, his eyes narrowing.

Before he could react, pain erupted in his chest. He glanced down to find a knife embedded deep, held by the real Yami who had silently appeared behind him.

"I see," Ryoma said, a hint of admiration in his voice. "You used your clone to draw my attention and then hid your real body for a surprise attack. Clever."

Despite the lethal strike, Ryoma's body didn't bleed. Instead, it began to disintegrate into a swarm of insects. Yami's eyes widened as he realized the trap.

"Insect clone," he whispered, too late to act.

At the center of the disintegrating clone, three explosive tags were revealed, wrapped in a writhing mass of insects.

"Detonate," Ryoma's voice commanded from a safe distance.

The tags ignited, and the subsequent explosion filled Yami's vision with blinding light and searing heat. The force of the blast turned everything into a pool of black ash, leaving a scorched crater in its wake.
