Chapitre 27: Tsubaki's Sword and pushing past my limit
Leaving Tsubaki's place, I head home, after I grab my equipment, I teleport to the dungeon, playing with Fear every time I teleport down has become a habit. We usually play tag, while she flys around, I chase her, though it's not always fun and games, sometimes we get serious about it.
When we do, I'll use Path of The Burning Steps single chant, it helps speed me up and leaves flaming footprints in the air, she has to be careful. After playing with her, I head to the 37th floor colosseum, I spend 2 days there, after returning to the Xenos, I give them the crystals I got.
After going back for 4 more days, I return to the surface, after exchanging the crystals at the guild, I bring the valis to the Goibniu Familia and pay off my debt. Now that I'm no longer riddled with debt, I can finally start hunting in the dungeon for real, after spending the day with mother, I head back to the dungeon.
After 3 weeks, I have a talk with Tsubaki about what she'd like to make, I was expecting it but, she really chose a katana. I start collecting rare materials for her weapon, the materials for the fluid catalyst, and working on a spell circle that's not overboard, it was no trouble thinking of strong enchantments.
What was difficult was, finding a place to put the enchantment, after thinking about it a lot. I decided to compress the magic circle, and make it so I can write it in a line. I tried repeatedly, after a month I had the basics of Spell Lines down.
The basics, it requires me to write out the spell in a line using mana, if I use a chant for the spell, it improves the power. The only problem, the magic circle I came up with would be to long, after trying different things for a month, I had found that if I split the spell line in parts, I can write them on the blade.
I tried it on my spare short sword, the one made from Minotaur horn, it didn't survive, it either wasn't of good quality materials, or the spell was to much for it. I spent some money on different weapons to practice, almost all of them broke, I decided to try using my goliath short sword.
It was my first custom short sword, I didn't want it to break but, I wanted to get the spell line right, it worked, but I only did one line, now it's going back to being a decoration.
As I was in the colosseum again, getting crystals for valis when, Udaeus suddenly spawned with a massive hoard of monsters, completely surrounded and with a monster rex, I was in for a fight.
Quickly looking up, I use Blink 4 times, as I'm falling back down I start raining arrows at the hoard. As I'm getting closer Udaeus trys to punch me, look to my right I Blink away, aiming back at Udaeus, I start shooting arrows with 500 compressed mana.
Shooting mini explosions caused Udaeus to block, as I was the monsters started attacking together. As I dealt with them, Udaeus got it's sword out, it still has both of it's arms, as it swung it's sword with both hands, I Blink out of the way.
It cut through the other monsters like they weren't even there, running around the arena in circles, I kept pelting it with arrows with 500 mana. Whenever it swung it's sword at me, I would either Blink out of the way, or jump over it.
As the fight dragged on, I was running low on mana, putting Mother's Gift into my backpack, I pull out the katana Tsubaki made for me. I wouldn't tell her this, but I named it Tsubaki (椿), for unyielding faithfulness, as Udaeus swings it's sword at me, I bring my blade down on it with all my strength.
As they connect, Udaeus's sword is cut in half, quickly running at Udaeus, I Blink in front of its head and slash down again. After I recover from my swing, I look at Udaeus, slowly it falls apart down the middle, reaching back into my backpack, I grab my scabbard and sheath my katana.
After collecting the crystals and materials, I meditate then absent-mindedly use teleportation, as I'm walking out of my teleportation room, I stop and look around. I just used teleportation without standing on one of my waypoints, looking at my mana, I see that the usage of Beacon of Hearth and Home, without the waypoint uses 75,000 mana.
Knowing this will be a big help for when I want to get home, not needing to stand on a waypoint will save time. Going to mother's office, I knock on the door, "Mother, I'm home, could you update my falna?" "Sure sweetie, come in." Walking in, I undo my dungeon outfit and lay down.
"So mother, I've just experienced a new feeling." "And what might that be?" "You already know, but I'll say it anyway. I felt that I could trust in the sword Tsubaki made for me, because it was made by her." "I'm happy you're able to trust others better now."
"Well mother, I'm going to start trying even harder from now on, I want Tsubaki to feel the same, once I'm done with the Spell Lines, her sword will be able to protect her too." "That's all well and good, but don't push yourself." "I'll try mother." "You coming back is all that matters."

"You fought a Udaeus again, when are you not going to be reckless." "If it was actually a challenge, then I would have taken it out with no mercy." "This is why you make me worry so much." "It can't be helped, the dungeon is a dangerous place." "Well mother, I'm off to see Tsubaki." "Stay safe sweetie." "I will mother, I love you." "I love you too sweetie."
Leaving mother's office, I head to Tsubaki's forge, entering the forge I find that Tsubaki isn't here. Setting my stuff aside, I get the materials out and place them on a table, sitting down on a chair I meditate, after an hour she's still not here.
Getting out one of the materials I got for myself, suspending it in the air, I start using Mana to heat up and melt the material, I Imbue a magic circle into it made of mana. Once the circle is in the center, I start compressing the material into an ingot, after it takes shape, I keep it somewhere out of the way.
The magic circle I put into it was a hardening spell, after it cools down, the next step will be to engrave the same circle on it during the forging process. As it's still too hot to do anything, I just wait, after an hour Tsubaki arrives.
"Hi Tsubaki! I got the materials for your sword, we can get to work now!" "That's great, but what's that?" She points to the floating ingot, "Oh that! I'm trying to see if I can engrave a magic circle into an ingot." "Okay, what do you hope will happen?"
"If it works, I may be able to do a double engraving." "Don't you think it would just break." "Yes, that's why I'm doing a test with weak enchantments." "I see, well let's get to work." "Alright! Let's make you the best sword ever!"
We start the process of melting down Udaeus's sword, we make ingots, there was enough material for 2 ingots, starting folding it process, we fold it a thousand times. Once we were done with the first 1, my ingot finished cooling and I put it away.
Starting on the second ingot, we repeat the process, after, she begins the forging process. I was there to make sure she didn't get dehydrated, she worked nonstop for 12 hours, after she finished both swords, I made her eat and started my part of the process.
The swords were Imbued with the Durandal property, which makes weapons essentially indestructible. She did a great job, I pull out all the crystals but Udaeus's crystal, from my backpack and have them float around me, I start writing the Spell Lines on the first sword.
As I'm writing the first line, some of the crystals start breaking, finishing the first line, half of the crystals had broken. Beginning the second line, the rest broke halfway through, finishing the second line, I used most of my mana.
I couldn't continue with the Spell Lines, in total, 4 lines were supposed to be written, failing to finish it made the sword a failure. It may still be used but, I can't continue writing on this sword, even with Durandal property and the first line making it indestructible, if I try, the blade will shatter.
Meditating till all my mana was back, I start again with the second sword, this time I use Udaeus's crystal. I start the writing process, the first line, is for indestructibility, the second line, is for increased sharpness, as I start the third line, the crystal starts to show small cracks.
Changing the way I use the crystal, I pull the mana from the crystal, and have it flow through me. The process was simple, but it felt weird, writing the third line, it's for impact resistance, it will decrease the impact from attacks and if attacks fail to cut through a target.
The fourth line, is for increased sharpness again but written different, as I was writing the middle of the fourth line, Udaeus's crystal broke apart into tiny pieces. Pulling any mana around me in, as I was finishing the fourth line, I ran out of mana, with the final stroke of my right index finger, I start to feel woozy.
Turning around, I smile at Tsubaki and say, "We did it!" Suddenly, I start falling forward and Tsubaki catches me. "You did great, get some rest." "Please... be careful... it's too... sharp..." and with that I pass out.
